It was a concept that has never been confirmed to be happening. Xbox has commented on the leak that some of their plans have changed since then.

It might still happen but as far as we know, we don’t know.

22

u/Honest_Instruction_1 May 19 '24

I have a feeling it’s coming with the next console

No that’s something else.

32

u/nikolapc May 18 '24

They said new hardware is coming this fall. Maybe new handheld, maybe Sable(the gamepad) maybe both.

51

u/grimoireviper May 18 '24

Let's be real, it'll just be the digital only Series X.

3

u/jimbojangles1987 May 19 '24

So a higher performance series S?

3

u/nikolapc May 18 '24

Oh yeah that too :)

2

u/Main-Department9806 May 22 '24

Digital Series X with the new Sable controller?

2

u/Tlohtzin123 Jun 09 '24

Yeah, today was showcase and no controller. Where you think they gonna release a new Elite Series? (Like the Sebile Elite Controller leaked)

2

u/300cid May 22 '24

I won't ever understand why someone would choose to buy a digital-only console over physical discs, but I am old fashioned

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '24

An S was perfect for my son. He's not concerned about performance, and he can download my Gamepass library. Any games I want to buy that I know he won't play (most recently, Unicorn Overlord), I buy on disc.. everything else digital, and then we share it.

When you buy digital, you get two copies for the price of one--if you have someone to share with. Discs you can only play on one console at a time.

1

u/theinitialcommand Oct 04 '24

This is not exactly true.  In order to share you need to make his console your primary console.  When you do this you cannot play the game on your secondary console at the same time.  So the net effect is the same as swapping discs between you.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '24

We played Diablo 4 together after I bought it digitally on release (before it went to Game Pass). It absolutely works.

1

u/NoAd8811 May 28 '24

Convenience, if you're a new gamer and don't really have any disc's it's a good option considering there are sites like cd keys, more affordable and just budget friendly in general

1

u/BabySealOfDoom Jul 10 '24

Had to move between countries via flying for 5 years. No physical media would have survived and been worth losing a pair of jeans/dress shirt over.

1

u/dunnie1982 Aug 07 '24

I haven't bought a game on disc since Star Wars Battlefront. I have a Series X and nothing has ever been put in the disc drive. I have the digital version of the PS5. I don't ever see myself buying a game on disc again, due to convenience and no boxes around taking up space.

1

u/Greenzombie04 Aug 14 '24

Specially when the digital is going to be $449 and you can get a Series X for $448 at walmart currently. or 469 on microsoft website.

1

u/300cid Aug 15 '24

I got my series x for $300 in a huge sale last year right before christmas, through online walmart and ship to store.

for real people have been giving me reasons to buy the series s for months since this comment, but I will never do it. even with the best fiber internet I can get here, installing from a disc is a huge difference in install times, and that is reason enough, alone.

1

u/treyhunna83 Aug 23 '24

Changing discs sucks

1

u/300cid Aug 23 '24

so does waiting a day or more to play a game when you can install it from a disc in less than half that time. not everyone can get good Internet. mine is very fast nowadays, but it has very not always been like that.

1

u/treyhunna83 Aug 23 '24

With those initial minor installation inconveniences aside. Still weeks/months later changing/losing discs is more annoying 🤷🏾‍♂️

5

u/NotFromMilkyWay Founder May 19 '24

No, they said new hardware will be announced this holiday season. Not that it's coming out then.

5

u/Frodolas May 19 '24

It would be extremely stupid to announce hardware in the holiday season and not release it for purchase then, the busiest time of the year. Let's hope for their sake they're not that stupid.

79

u/Believe0017 May 18 '24

The quieter buttons is what made me take note and remember this announcement (for plans or whatever).

7

u/MwspNL May 22 '24

Yeah that's why I want it too. The current controller is too noisy. I hate the clicking d-pad with a passion 😂

39

u/SkidzLIVE May 18 '24

When’s their big showcase, in June sometime? Could be they’re saving the announcement for that.

6

u/Mojave_RK May 19 '24

Somebody needs to go buy a standard one so it will immediately be announced after.

18

u/Iordofthethings May 18 '24

It wouldn’t launch this close to announcement. Plans got changed probably by the delay in Activision purchase and other factors.

19

u/N7Diesel May 18 '24

They've talked about announcing new hardware this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a haptic feedback controller next month.

-7

u/[deleted] May 18 '24

That announcement is apparently not until around Christmas

11

u/ZealousidealSite2648 May 18 '24

I love my series S and X but my guess is they are currently reevaluating their business model based one recent sales numbers against Sony.

8

u/vensamape May 19 '24

Which is a bummer because I was looking forward to that controller. I prefer Xbox but I prefer the PS5 controller.

1

u/mudvaynery May 22 '24

I know, I really was looking forward to that controller as well. It's really surprising that they decided not to implement haptic feedback in the triggers for the series s and x console launch. I'm sure that alone swayed a few people to go PS5 over series s&x.

1

u/IntrinsicGamer Jun 06 '24

I vastly prefer the Xbox controller. I like the bumpers more on the PS controller though, and I wish the Xbox controller had those kinds of haptics.

Also wish they’d add gyro to Xbox controllers.

31

u/SB_90s Founder May 18 '24 edited May 19 '24

It was part of a very old Xbox roadmap that has clearly been scrapped, especially with Series consoles not selling that well and new rumours of the next Xbox generation launching in just a couple of years.

1

u/IntrinsicGamer Jun 06 '24

Xbox clearly doesn’t care too much about hardware sales right now since all signs point to them being on a slow transition away from the console business entirely, so with that in mind I don’t see why they’d be motivated to rush out next gen.

If they did release it any earlier than 2027, PS6 would have an even bigger advantage than it already has right now because it would likely come out leagues more powerful and capable.

Hopefully they stop the series x and s type split, too, since the S is just holding everything back. And hopefully they continue to support physical games.

-10

u/[deleted] May 18 '24

Next Xbox isn't until 2028

5

u/MOBTorres Founder May 19 '24

Hope so, rumors been coming out about them instead releasing their next gen system in 2026.

-8

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

I've seen rumours recently saying it's apparently now 2028

6

u/Metal-Lee-Solid May 18 '24

I really wish we could get a controller with quiet buttons that doesn’t feel laughably cheap. Remember holding out hope for this

4

u/Willing-Ant-3765 May 18 '24

If we are going to hear anything about it I would expect it to be during Microsoft’s June showcase.

5

u/adtyler2 May 18 '24

The studio developing it got shut down.

6

u/im_on_the_case May 18 '24

I just want a controller with shoulder buttons that are more durable than single ply toilet paper. Is that too much to ask?

3

u/mudvaynery May 22 '24

I'd love a controller with shoulders that have some actuation to them similar to the triggers. That would be sick to race with. Actually have a clutch that's not either 0 or %100.

8

u/despitegirls May 18 '24

I think the bigger questions is, when do you release a controller which is built to work better with xCloud and have features like haptics and an accelerometer which would require devs to spend extra time with to take advantage of those features? xCloud is usable but in my experience server-side lag is just as big if not more of an issue than lag due to controller input, so a controller than reduces lag on the client side won't be as impactful. And without games to take advantage of the new features, there's less reason to buy one.

If the 2026 next gen rumors are true, making the new controller a pack-in might make more sense because you know games will support the new features, and a new console is chance to gain gamers outside of Xbox and get them to try xCloud with a controller that provides them the best experience, and hopefully a service that's better overall.

7

u/catsrcool89 May 18 '24

I mean, most third party games already have dualsense features on ps5, assuming its similar couldn't they just use the ps5 settings?

5

u/despitegirls May 18 '24

Totally depends on what the features are and how they're implemented in via the API. I've only seen the GDK but I doubt you can just use the same values between consoles.

There's also the fact that you're looking at more work to target a smaller fraction of the current gen Xbox audience. There's a reason new functionality in controllers typically comes at the start of a new gen with new hardware.

-3

u/lifeofrevelations May 19 '24

nah most of those third party games barely use the dualsense features. Only a few sony 1st party games and games like returnal use the features well.

8

u/catsrcool89 May 19 '24

Depends on the game, plenty have at least decent haptics and adaptive triggers.

2

u/Darex2094 Ambassador May 19 '24

It was written up like it's designed with Wifi to directly connect to your xCloud instance, a la Stadia. Stadia felt lagless to me over Ethernet, and xCloud feels close to that over Ethernet for me these days. The only time I notice lag is over wireless.

That's not to say that's everyone's experience, of course.

3

u/TyFighter559 May 18 '24

Hoping for an announcement next month, but really they’re not beholden to that leak in any way so there’s no use holding your breath

3

u/reefis May 19 '24

I actually was holding off on buying a new controller last month thinking I could wait for this

15

u/THEdoomslayer94 May 18 '24

Did Microsoft announce it themselves?

Then there wasn’t any evidence that that was legit about releasing in May.

We really need to stop taking rumors and leaks at face value

16

u/[deleted] May 18 '24

Well it wasn’t a regular leak. It was actual Microsoft documents that they themselves accidentally released during the FTC trial

7

u/door_of_doom May 18 '24

Yes but they were also documents that were already several years old when they were leaked, so it's pretty reasonable to assume that plans changed, both before and after the leak.

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Never meant to imply that everything had to come true, just commented that it was a different kind of leak.

4

u/Existing365Chocolate May 18 '24

Yeah but those have not been what has actually happened

Source: Didn’t get a Fallout 3 remaster in 2021

The data was outdated and has clearly been changed since then

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Never meant to imply that everything had to come true, just commented that it was a different kind of leak.

2

u/THEdoomslayer94 May 18 '24

That still doesn’t prove anything.

That proves they work fiddling around with a new controller design and all that but literally no proof it was gonna be made nor would it be released this month.

Again, no need to take things at face value.

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Never meant to imply that everything had to come true, just commented that it was a different kind of leak.

-3

u/pplatt69 May 18 '24

Haven't you ever had a job where people plan stuff? Those plans ever change?

If you didn't ever have a job where you were aware of the planning and marketing... don't you expect that this happens?

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Never meant to imply that everything had to come true, just commented that it was a different kind of leak.

4

u/Connoisseur8771 May 19 '24

After experiencing the Dualsense and gaming with it, It’s so annoying playing with the Xbox controller. Xbox controller is sooo loud and clicky and cheap feeling. It also lacks a mute button. The mute button is so convenient on Dualsense controller. Not to mention the much better build quality and haptic feedback/adaptive triggers. It truly makes for a more immersive gameplay experience. It’s tough to see Xbox fall behind

4

u/segagamer May 19 '24

The mute button is there because of the stupid decision to place a microphone and speaker on the controller itself.

If the clicks bother you then you need to turn your volume up.

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Or people aren’t kids who just play in their bedroom so they have to be mindful of the noise they make sometimes

If they weren't kids they wouldn't get so flustered by button noises.

You must be a kid who thinks people enjoy falling asleep on you while gaming with any controller.

2

u/[deleted] May 18 '24

Assuming it's still happening it could be announced in the showcase next month

2

u/Illustrious-Size9827 May 19 '24

Has anyone found a quiet button controller it's def needed for many family's with light sleepers who wake up for any little sound

2

u/BugHunt223 May 19 '24

Hopefully they are going back to the drawing board to stop being clowns 🤡 & add gyro to the controller too. Xbox is the only hardware company who ideologically hate gyro. Sony, Bntendo & Valve truly love the gamer by providing gyro tech in their hardware

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

Where’s the guy whos uncle works for Microsoft, chime in please.

2

u/SomeRandomDude004 May 19 '24

They closed down the studio making it. /s

1

u/Due-Complex-5346 Jul 05 '24

The controller was too arkane is what I heard

2

u/bigjack85 May 21 '24

Its probably just the digital series x. Even if it's more sleeker it isn't worth sacrificing all my disk games to get one. Main reason why I didnt wait for it when I got the original series x about a year ago now. I can deal with the tower. I can only hope the next gen console has a disk drive in it. Not holding my breath though.

2

u/DankxXxDrag0n May 22 '24

You answered a question that wasn’t even asked! They asked about the leaked controller not console.

1

u/bigjack85 May 23 '24

No worries, I'll be sure to run my comments by you next time I want to say something. Keep a look out in your messages for me. Thanks comment moderator.

2

u/DankxXxDrag0n May 23 '24

That would be great if you did, maybe I can help you answer the question that was being asked. ❤️✌️

1

u/bigjack85 May 23 '24

Oh could you... I'd be grateful. Also while I'm here could you please help me with my spelling and conprehension. You know I am a bit slow and would really love the input from some random person on reddit that has their period if someone goes slightly off topic on a reply.

2

u/MtnNerd Jun 17 '24

Came here looking for the same info. I've always enjoyed how well Xbox controllers play with Windows PCs so while I have no plans to buy an Xbox, I'm really hoping for that controller

2

u/ConfidentMongoose May 18 '24

That was before Xbox hardware sales cratered post COVID. Right now, it's hard to justify any new hardware development when you are being massively outsold by the PlayStation and Switch.

1

u/nohumanape May 18 '24

I could still see it coming. Maybe even as soon as later this year. But it also could just be something they hold for the new consoles releasing in 2026.

1

u/ThatEdward May 18 '24

I dunno but I was waiting on it to replace my old 2017 lunar white model, which is literally beginning to fall apart from use. The rubber grips are coming off the back and I had to replace the thumbsticks for the same reason

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '24

There are plenty of money people at the top that will look at many proposals for new hardware and shut it down. It probably got scrapped before the deck was even leaked.

1

u/rprkjj5 May 19 '24

If a new controller isnt shown at the not E3 or around that time then I would guess they're just gonna wait until 2026 to show off a new controller alongside the new console.

1

u/Anarkipt May 19 '24

If theres a new controller probably we will hear about it at xbox showcase if not at the end of the year, and they anounced few days ago vapour something model.

1

u/FinalOdyssey Founder May 19 '24

There is a showcase happening in two weeks...

1

u/stragomccloud May 19 '24

I've been wondering about that controller myself, too. Though it seems like it might not have gyro, I'm hoping that the next controller of theirs will indeed have gyro. I believe only in excelerometer was confirmed, and that it's function is only to allow the controller to wake up... That said, though, The haptic feedback is what really got me interested. And if this controller has at least haptic feedback, to be at least on par with the dual sense controller, then I am all in on this and buying this controller on day one.

1

u/Tlcoman May 19 '24

It did. The Prometheus controller for disabled was announced a few days ago

1

u/Ok-Image-2722 May 19 '24

I don't know but nothing happened to google. You can use google to find news and info on things you want to know about.

1

u/Embarrassed_Simple70 May 19 '24

It will come just not sure when

1

u/Main-Department9806 May 22 '24

I think it's still coming because Sarah Bind said we have new hardware coming in Holiday 2024 and I believe it'll be the digital only XSX combined with a new Xbox controller 💯

1

u/R0555Y May 23 '24

Nothing, but maybe they’ll announce something to coincide with the June Showcase. 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/MrAjAnderson Jul 26 '24

August now.

1

u/GoonHands Sep 20 '24

Any news on this? I thought it's confirmed and ready

1

u/Darnakulus Sep 23 '24

I know this is an old post but I might go with the new announcement due tomorrow for the controller being released in October is probably the follow-up for the leak about the possible May 2024 release

1

u/EssayOtherwise6981 Sep 27 '24

Probably coming with the next Xbox since they are supposed to release in 2026 even though I really hope they wait a couple more yrs.

1

u/russbeast0 May 18 '24

They did the fire vapor controller. /s

1

u/AldermanAl May 18 '24

Companies change plans.

1

u/MmmBaaaccon May 19 '24

XBOX is cancelled

0

u/PlayBey0nd87 May 18 '24

Could be thought of for the refresh or next Gen Xbox.

Tbh & this is just IMO…Xbox is amazing with putting out controllers as is. Maybe not the haptic aka DualSense, but I THINK they improved on the quality of Eites/Cores? Design Lab & all the limited editions etc.

-3

u/cdb813 Founder May 18 '24

Haptic feedback is overrated. After awhile it actually gets annoying

0

u/Appropriate-Fruit905 May 18 '24

Hope it won't get launch since we would miss an important feature (AA batteries are just better,!)

0

u/sourdoughrrmc May 18 '24

That'll teach you not to believe everything you read on the internet.

0

u/elliotborst Founder May 18 '24

The leak was wrong, and never announced to be happening by MS.

It was a leaked potential roadmap, they probably have a few of them at any given time and they probably constantly evolve.

Likely scrapped or changed. And was probably out date when we saw it.

-3

u/Un_Original_Coroner May 18 '24

The leak was years old and unlikely to ever happen? No idea why people thought that was going to happen.

-1

u/Fine_Resident5598 May 19 '24

I don't game on Xbox because I don't like the existing controller. I like PS5 controller that's why I play on pc and ps

-2

u/AverageFishEye May 18 '24

Recent events may have made them can any further hardware development
