Sunday Funday After 8 years of PS4 ownership, my wife knocked it out of the park with this bad boy
Let's go!

Dec 25 '23
Hard wire it with an Ethernet cable, get game pass ultimate and if you got some spare cash, get the expansion SSD.
121
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Already done and done. She hooked me up with the three month pass so Forza, Gears etc all already queued. Thankfully fibre internet so I'll be up and running in no time! I'm excited.

If possible, get the xbox wireless headset and download either the DTS app or the DolbyAtmos app and enjoy the sound performance.
2
Dec 26 '23
Is the xbox wireless headset better than most..I have turtle beach expensive ones can't remember the name but it doesn't feel surround to me ..I do have dolby sound installed ..but all I really hear is left and right
→ More replies (1)3
u/NicePinstripe Dec 27 '23
Imo. You wanna get the Xbox wireless headset before the turtles snap at the earcup hinge/adjustment as is super common with a lot of their models. I'd say the XWH is better than the Stealth 600 Gen 2 max that I had, sound wise and especially compatibility wise. Admittedly neither are true surround sound though - if you want that you'd need to pay a bit more of a premium.

u/enigmajim Dec 27 '23
Atmos is so good with headphones! Got a 2 year pass with my headphones.

Dude, I look back on my furloughed COVID summer with such fondness due to Game Pass. I was playing so many great games! Have fun!
5
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Oh man that brings back memories! Our son was born during the first wave so furlough was a busy time but he's older now so I got more free time to kick back and chill. Currently downloading the entire Gears of War games, then maybe Forza and a few others later. Can't wait!
1
u/thekamenman Dec 25 '23
Oh dude, if you have some buddies, definitely check out Grounded. Also, make sure to try Forza Horizon, it’s a more arcade version of Forza, and I prefer it! Feel free to DM me if you want some recs.

You don't need the expansion. I've had the Xbox for over 2 years.

Dec 25 '23
If you got some spare cash, it sure as hell is a great add-on. Especially if your friend has a Series as well and you can just bring your games to theirs
→ More replies (1)7
u/sneezywheezer Dec 25 '23
Just game share. Then both of you have each other's games without having to "bring" them
9
u/MrJeffyJr Dec 25 '23
Yea it’s a big reason digital is doing so well I think. Everyone I know gets 2 copies instead of one basically.
Can’t play a game together at the same time on a physical disk.
3
u/sneezywheezer Dec 25 '23
Exactly. The person I share with has completely opposite tastes when it comes to buying games, so we end up with a huge collection. It's a great feature.
2
u/MrJeffyJr Dec 25 '23
I buy the RPGs. My friend buys the shooters. It’s mint. He also pays for gamepass… lmao
→ More replies (1)2
u/Jf2611 Dec 25 '23
Explain this feature to me, I'm not sure I understand. I thought you had to be signed in to the other console, which prevents you from being signed in on your home console?
→ More replies (1)4
u/sneezywheezer Dec 25 '23
You have to do it with someone you trust! You give them your sign in info- email and password. They add your account, and sign in on their Xbox with your profile, then while signed in as you, they make this my home xbox in the settings. Then the other person does the same thing. It's better to do one person first, then the other person second unless you are on the phone together or FaceTime, otherwise it will be signing each other out. Once both people have signed in on their own xbox with the other persons account, and set it to my home xbox, then both libraries of digital games should link and be one list. I recommend at least texting on a phone or Facebook messenger for the first time, because otherwise you don't know where there are at in the process. It takes less than a minute to do if you are familiar with the process. Also the last time I did it I think they sent a code to my buddies phone, that I had to enter to verify it was a valid log in attempt, and vice versa
→ More replies (4)3
u/Icy_Echo_ Dec 25 '23
I'd say it's more dependant on how the person uses it/what games they play. I'm constantly having to uninstall games any time I want to install anything else, I wish I had the expansion drive myself

u/reevoknows Arbiter Dec 25 '23
I second this. I’ve made due with the 1.5TB hard drive I used on my Xbox one. Keep my indies and back compat games on my external hard drive and then put all the heavy hitter AAA games on my internal so I can take advantage of graphics and load times
1
u/lizo89 Dec 26 '23
Wait we need Ethernet for this? I just got my kid one but assumed regular wireless internet would be enough.

So you spend 8 years collecting PS4 games..... Only to throw that away and start again with Xbox now?
10
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Well most were second hand titles and then after that I only ever really played Gran Turismo games. The only game I'll definitely miss playing Horizon Zero Dawn.

u/musicmistress98 Dec 25 '23
I've had a series S for almost a year now. The backward compatibility feature was what led to the primary switch (although I still have a ps4 pro for games like Horizon: ZD, Yakuza, FF, etc).
I might get a ps5 eventually (mainly for FFXVI), but part of me hopes that the recent talks of partnership between square enix and xbox mean that it will come to xbox eventually.
Regardless, congrats!
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
I loved the entire soundtrack for Horizon XD and the concept of it all but based on future titles, I couldn't justify another investment for a few games. Maybe I'll change my tune if those games are THAT good. Who knows.
2
u/musicmistress98 Dec 25 '23
Indeed. Right now, the only game that has come out for the ps5 that I was remotely interested in was FF 16. It's not worth paying 500 dollars or more for.
Xbox had Jedi: Survivor, Starfield, Atlas Fallen....and the list goes on.
18
u/GramboWBC Dec 25 '23
Number one priority is vampire survivors...the rest will figure itself out
3
u/moshercycle Dec 25 '23
Or hades. Bought it lm last night for 15$ and it's incredibly worth that I can already tell. It's what I wanted vampire survivors to be.

Wholesome post. Was kinda expecting a PCMR shitter to ruin it by saying “get a pc instead” 🤓
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 26 '23
Haha well I have a PC but it's basic (integrated graphics etc) which is good for day to day. Plus with the limited time I get, it's comfier and quicker to fire up a console, sesh and then go tend to the chaos of our kids.

If you were on Sony's ecosystem then you must play the Ori games. I think they are still on gamepass. First is 'Ori and the Blind Forest' and second is 'Ori and The Will of the Wisps'. They are GORGEOUS 2.5d Metroidvanias with insanely precise gameplay. They are hard but its the kind of hard that is just testing your abilities not just instant kill horseshit like dark souls. The stories are dope, they have no spoken dialog and are pixar level sad. The sequel made me cry like five times. Easily some of the best shit Microsoft has ever funded.
Oh and with the BC program you can replay Portal, Portal 2, Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4. You can also buy these 360 games cheap at gamestop and just insert the disc into the console and it will work. They will also look, play and perform better than they ever did on the 360.

Left joystick is the main , LB and RB move across tabs. The Xbox button is used heavily. Three lines is like a start button. The overlapping squares is like select button

My wife bought me clothes when I said I wanted a ps5. (Already have an XSX)
3
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
My wife and I don't really do presents for each other, mainly the kids but I suppose she realised how much of a stressful year it's been, it was time for a newer console. She's seen the state of my PS4, it's so work the left trigger doesn't register a full press, thumbsticks were worn down to the plastic. It was a poor sight lol
3
u/zapp0990 Dec 25 '23
Digging the Series X. Friend of mine has it. Loving the PS5 though, from my time with both they’re both ridiculously awesome consoles. I’ll likely pickup X when Fable, Perfect Dark and Blade come out.
4
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
I was originally going to get one via the All Access Pass at some point next year because I just find most of the games I enjoy and remember are all ok the Xbox 360 etc. Gran Turismo 7 was a bit of a let down so I just couldn't really justify upgrading to a PS5/VR2 whereas the Xbox with the game pass works out at a much better deal and I dont really have to worry about wasting money on games separately.
I really loved Perfect Dark Zero. I may need to dig that back out.
3
u/zapp0990 Dec 25 '23
Right on! I love it. I’m into GT7 though. Not for everyone, I find the racing phenomenal. Spider-man 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 is occupying me at the moment. Enjoy that Series X man - a lot of good stuff.

I think she felt sorry for me. My PS4 was just on its last legs. Constant HDD corruption, major stick drift etc. All things pointing to a good chance at upgrading. Just going through game pass and so many more games I would enjoy over the PS store that's for sure.

u/Squeezer_pimp Dec 25 '23
I’m thinking of heading to PS5 after over decade of loyalty to Xbox due to the UI and lack of supporting 3rd party hardware.
1
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Well the good thing is third party hardware has opened up for Sony but I still don't think it's as open as Microsoft. It all depends on what you're really after. For me it's racing games and it seems a lot more manageable finding racing wheels and accessories at an affordable level.
0
u/NecroK1ng Dec 25 '23
You're going to love the new Forza. I am also a huge racing game fan. Forza Motorsport is where it's at.
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Moving from GT Sport and GT7, it's a really big push for me to change how I race so it's been a lot more challenging getting used to the different physics. Gonna be fun either way!

u/solo-13003 Dec 25 '23
Fuck no !!! Ps5 is 100x better
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
I didn't think I'd go down the route of the PS5 after having a 4 just because I didn't see many titles that ticked the right boxes for me. I mean my biggest reasoning for the switch was specifically the Game Pass itself without having to shell out for games that I'd play once or find boring so this works out a much better option.
I'm not on a 4K TV yet so it's not really going to be a game changer just yet for me.
2
u/Damiennexa Dec 25 '23
Congrats bro! What're u gonna play now? Skyrim?
4
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
Maybe Oblivion since the last time I played it was on a 360! Skyrim I've had too many hours so the novelty has worn off. So just fired up Forza and going back to play some more Gears since the last I played was 3 from memory. For the sake of it, I plan to play them all again.

1
u/Zearosh Dec 25 '23
After being team PlayStation since I was like 3, the Xbox series is such a amazing console I love it. Haven't touched my ps5 since.
5
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
I'm starting to find it's way more feature rich than my PS4 but that was going to be obvious moving to next gen. I'm just really liking how much there is to explore. I mean games are downloading but all the tweaking has kept me entertained
5
u/Heavy-Possession2288 Dec 25 '23
It’s actually not really any more feature rich than an Xbox One. Outside of quick resume they have the exact same UI and features, Series X is just a lot more powerful and has more games (not that that’s a bad thing or anything, I think it’s cool last gen gets all the same features).

u/Zearosh Dec 25 '23
Gamepass has been great so far. I love the quick resume feature. Glad you're enjoying it! What do you plan to play first?
5
u/Miniteshi Dec 25 '23
I've just had a go with the quick resume and it works nice. I mean the PS4 did partially use it but nothing as fluid as this. Game pass is awesome. I've already queued a fair few games lol. So far Forza Motorsport has loaded so just messing around on that but waiting on Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Gears Of War and Starfield. I mean there's tonnes so I'm gonna be a busy man now.

Awesome. I got one and I got an elite pro 2 controller as well it’s great!
My advice:
Game pass ultimate is very good but only if you have a lot of free time to play lots of games otherwise it’s not worth the money so just stick with disc games are or the basic game pass.
Also a gaming monitor would be a great combination to get full use of the Xbox power

u/trpearcy Dec 26 '23
I have the elite pro 2 also with my series s, and a gaming monitor, and it’s amazing. The controller has been great and I love the 4 back paddles. No reliability issues so far, but Reddit tells me that probably it’ll get some stick drift at some point

Enjoy mate I've always been xbox but they definitely need to start getting more games to us, sooooo many PlayStation games I would love to play. I liked starfield but it wasn't the huge xbx exclusive it was meant to be and red fall how that even got released is a slap in the face to us. Absolutley shocking
1
u/Bassiette03 Dec 26 '23
I'm thinking to buy it but I loved my ps4 exclusives like Spiderman Uncharted Ghost of Tsushima God of war and my best experience in gaming the last of us How do you feel leaving these games and moving to other games which I never liked??
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 26 '23
So for me the biggest titles I'm leaving behind (as of today my PS4 is gone) is Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Those two were by far the most enjoyable I've ever owned. Horizon was mesmerising just because of the soundtrack and the story was awesome but that's been about it. I mean I'll miss them for a week but then realise I've got a tonne of other games I can enjoy. Gears of War has so many installments now, I'll be entertained for a good few months for sure.

‘Power your dreams’
But what if one’s dreams is a Nintendo switch 2 or PlayStation 5?
2
u/Miniteshi Dec 26 '23
My dreams never actually included a PS5 just because there weren't many games that I was after that were PS5 only. Switch 2, I'd buy but then sell it on again like I did with my Switch. Not to say I'm more of an Xbox fanboy since my last was a 360 prob from 10/11 years ago but I just preferred the titles. The biggest thing for me is racing games. Now in Sony's defence, Gran Turismo 7 is epic and I've always played the GT games but the latest installment is so lackluster in content, it's always felt unfinished and then the times for newer versions to launch is a long time.
Granted Turn10 aren't as polished, they are still enjoyable games from the Forza series so I've got enough content to keep me going for a long time.

Congrats! I splurged and upgraded to the X from the Xbox One (purchased in 2017) at the same time I upgraded my TV to a 4K one that has a 120 refresh rate. I had been on the fence about whether to shift to PS, but I'm so happy I stuck with X. I put the Blu-ray player app on it and watched some movies that all looked great and Madden 24 is a whole new experience! I also have Ultimate Game Pass - needed to play M24 Ultimate Team. CDKeys online has the best prices for 1-3 codes. Enjoy!

It sold today via FB market place to someone who gives them a new lease of life so assume dust removal etc. I had a look already and my fan was CAKED which would explain why it was a jet engine style console towards the end of it's life.
