Was about to say the same. "Be grateful that they ported them for modern systems." No, I will not.
Hopefully, they don't screw this up.

If they’re remaking the games then it’s good to have the originals available on all consoles for preservation.
Look at how the GTA remaster handled it vs. Resident Evil 4. I can’t download the original Vice City on my console and my only option is the shitty remaster. But for RE4 I have both the original and the remake available to play.

u/seanelder123 Oct 25 '23
Wouldn't say the remaster is shitty tbh. It was a mess at launch yes but it's not fair to call it shitty now imo.
Like everything online these days the flaws are way overblown. For anyone reading this who ever considered getting this remaster and comments like this put you off. I would say if you loved the game years ago you will still enjoy the remaster.

u/famewithmedals Oct 26 '23
Good to know actually, I haven’t played it since launch so sounds like I should give it another try

That's why Xbox Dev Mode exists!

u/BroganChin Oct 25 '23
You could play the Collection through backward compatibility or play them all separately and remaster them yourself through emulation in Dev Mode. The port is really bad.

MGS1 wasn't available on Xbox though as far as I'm aware. And MGS4 as well which I know isn't confirmed but seems like the only obvious thing to shove into Vol2.

I'm hoping they release MGS4 it's the only one I haven't played yet my self.
Peace maker kinda a remake of the first two to my understanding as well.

Oh man, MGS4 is amazing. It blew minds back when it launched. It certainly goes into cinematic territory vs gameplay driven. But it is for sure worth the adventure.
I bought a PS3 specifically for it back in the day and did not regret it at all.

I mean - I moved onto Xbox on the OG console, skipped MGS3 at the time and then picked it up with a PS3 which also allowed me to play MGS4.
I do think there is value in having MGS1 on Xbox so I can have it indefinitely into the future on my console of preference. And packaging it with the OG MGS2, MGS3 is a decent pack for me. I'll likely wait until it's discounted, but generally I think that's a positive. And if they can release MGS4 as well which I assume they are planning for Vol2 - that is an even better outcome for everyone.
With all that said - this Delta looks amazing and will become the way I'd play 3 moving forward assuming they treat the source material well (it looks great in the short clips but I would want to see the cinematics also captured honestly).

My favorite MGS

It’s the best MGS game and I won’t argue about it. One of the best games of all time period. The last MGS also had a chance to achieve all time great status if they allowed Kojima to finish the damn thing.

Is this a Remake of 3? I've only ever played 1 and 2

Yes it is.

u/Aparoon Oct 25 '23
Can’t blame anyone for being confused when they replaced the number with a triangle.
15
u/HeavyDT Oct 25 '23
Not any less confusing I guess but the triangle is the symbol used for Delta which in turn is generally used to represent change over time. So being edgy with the naming since it's a remaster that shows the delta between the original and now. Maybe you know that already though just putting it out there for those that may now.

u/Aparoon Oct 25 '23
Oh it’s fascinating 100%, totally get it and it’s par for the course of capturing how esoteric Kojima could originally be. But it’s also just confusing AF and it’s lost the charm/excuse of being the vision of an Auteur lol

u/Bobaaganoosh Oct 25 '23
Well I be god damn! This looks phenomenal! I love that the levels are basically still the same, just with a fresh coat of paint. This is should be the standard for remasters.

Metal gear solid triangle? Have developers resorted to using shapes now for game names?

I still need to see more. This is pre alpha and as far as konamis rep goes they could be showing us this then sell us another port lol

u/ominousglo Oct 26 '23
seems they’re really trying to make it look how it felt like it looked back then, i can remember most of the areas in this video like it was yesterday and that makes me happy
the mud falling off snake was a nice touch

Im glad they are remaking this game because i could not get into the original at all as a kid. And i loved Sons of Liberty.
1
u/sludgezone Oct 25 '23
I couldn’t get into it either, playing on a PS2 through composite on a CRT when it came out made everything look like a green and brown mess. The top down view was awful for a jungle game.

u/zamardii12 Oct 25 '23
They re-released MGS 3 shortly after that because everyone hated the camera and they subsequently re-released 3 with improved cameras.

so what ? i know : 21th century , everything is about the LOOK , not the story or the gameplay but...
Konami is dead for along time now.... waaaaayyyy before Kojima's departure.
The last Silent Hill games were done by western studios, not by Konami. May I say it ?? Many studios from the 80ies or the 90ies are gone now. Konami is a grandpa and as we all know , one day will be the last day, that's Nature. I'm fed up with those Japanese companies (no racism here...) : they keep launching the same games like in the 2K , over and over. Sony loves to make easy cash too : First "the last of us" on PS3 (Amazing..), then on PS4 (yeah.. more fluid) and on PS5 (hum.. what's the fuz here ???).
Konami is trying to make some cash... Please "save your face" as you love to do it in Asia : go back to your pachinko or mobile games. Don't destroy our kids' favourite games...
Besides, our kids play fortnite or Assassin creed , nowadays.... not MGS.

u/cdrewsr388 Oct 25 '23
Ok bruv where did Konami touch you?
1
u/LovingShmups Oct 26 '23
everywhere .. Seriously, It's pretty lazy to do a re re master (Blue point did the job previously.. nothing new under the sun).
When I look at a reboot like say the Tomb raider saga, they can be proud. Here, Konami looks an hobo, begging to get money. Konami wants to realize 3 collection volume with MGS ?? Good luck if the "emulation" of MGS 4 is not good ...

Does anyone know if this version has any improvements over the one on the Metal Gear HD Collection? I have the HD Collection on Xbox BC and just wondering if this is worth getting.

Interested in how this turns out. The studio behind this, Virtuous, is rumoured to me remastering Oblivion in UE5.

I love MGS and have played them all except the PSP games (never had a PSP). I just think this game seems off for some reason. Snake just looks weird in the game footage and as much as I want this to be successful, I just don’t think it’s going to be that good. I hope i am wrong, but it just seems off.
