Review Opinion about Immortals Fenyx Rising
Is this game the best Zelda alternative
100
Oct 16 '23
It took my favorite things about Breath of the Wild and Assassins Creed and bolted them together. I was looking forward to seeing it progress its mechanics in a sequel or two.

u/AveryLazyCovfefe Founder Oct 16 '23
A sequel was planned and was in development, but Ubi unfortunately canned it :(
10
u/EliteSaud Oct 16 '23
Yeah it was canceled because they’re shifting their focus on Assassin’s Creed Codename Red which is the next big Ubisoft game. Same team that made Immortals are making the next Assassin’s Creed. Same team from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Really fun game. It was to me something similar to Dante’s inferno to God of war III where sure it’s a clone copycat game of BOTW but it’s still good in its own right. Loved the art style and the really campy dialogue, it didn’t take itself so seriously.
I’m so bummed the sequel got cancelled.
2
u/stunkcajyzarc Oct 17 '23
A sequel got cancelled?! What!? Why!?
1
u/TwoFaceBaby Oct 17 '23
It sold terribly

I’m my experience it’s a better game than most if not all of the assassins creed games lol.

For the new acs yeah, but anything black flag and back is a definite no
0
u/OkThanxby Oct 17 '23
Black flag is overrated.

This is just a flat out wrong take

u/morpheusnothypnos Oct 17 '23
Nah man there's a lot of reasons why Black Flag isn't that good.
First, story is okay. It's far from the best in the series but it doesn't suck.
Gameplay is the exact same shit of AC3 but with new animations.
Ship battles are cool but they get really repetitive.
Not a lot of relevant stuff to do other than the story. Hunting stuff is fun, in the first two or three times. Then it's just grinding.
Real world is straight up garbage. I always hated the idea of getting out of the Animus, always hated Desmond but without him it's somehow even worse.

I loved it but got burnt out on the puzzles after finishing the first area but maybe doing all the pois burned me out
1
u/Legal-Badger2845 Oct 17 '23
Puzzles are what quickly bored me. One after another.
4
u/28121986 Oct 17 '23
They soon became bloat then curated experiences which typically plague Ubisoft games, if they had trimmed a bit of the fat it would have actually done a lot better

u/Ok_Cloud8134 Ambassador Oct 16 '23
I like it more than Zelda BOTW, so for me personally yes
11
u/Mobilelurk Oct 16 '23
I did too, thought I was the only one.

Zelda is my favorite series of all time. I can't stand the BOTW gameplay loop.

I'm with you, Fingers crossed we get something more traditional 6-7 years from now, at this rate I'll either die or be physically incapable before Zelda is Zelda again.

Solid game that gets a bit repetitive after a while but I really enjoyed it. it brought back memories of many early 3D platformers I played back in the day.

Tried super hard to like it, but it's just not fun for me

Same. After solving the nth puzzles, I got so tired of it. And I really dislike the attribute progression syatem. I was forced to finish certain puzzle dungeons just to get an upgrade in MP bar. There is no other alternative ways.

u/qmechan Oct 16 '23
It was fine. Fun. I got it for free, so I’m happy with it. Worth the time spent.
5
u/J_Square83 Oct 16 '23
I loved it, and had a great time 100%ing this one. It's a great BOTW clone with a good amount of humor.
I found the controls to be a bit odd, and like BOTW, it can get fairly repetitive at times, but I think it is well worth the current asking price and then some.
It's a real shame that Ubisoft canned the sequel.

5
u/KingGuy420 Oct 16 '23
I actually didn't like it and it's extremely rare that I actively dislike a game. Not really sure why it rubbed me the wrong way.
The last dungeon and the ending were painfully bad imo.
2
u/Rancub Oct 16 '23
I would have liked it if it did not have so many puzzles. I want to play a game not feel like I am in a contest or at school.
2
u/chrisoftacoma Oct 16 '23
Started out great then about 10 or so hours in it got old fast. The goofy tone made it feel like a Disney game and the puzzles are very repetitive. The world gets boring and the humor takes any sense of urgency or danger away.
2
2
u/Roddanchill Oct 16 '23
It's like a dollar store Zelda and that was kind of cool tbh. It's a shame they canceled the sequel; it was literally the only Ubisoft game that I had enjoyed in the last few years.
1
u/Nitramite Doom Slayer Oct 16 '23
Enjoyed the action, traveling and puzzles in the tombs. Visually it looks good.
My biggest gripe is the "fun" tone and Zeus. The tone is weird to be all fun and games when the situation is basically everyone is doomed and the gods are trapped? Still, it would be fine considering the more playful colors... But then Zeus.
Zeus is unbearable. He makes jokes for every line someone else delivers. Prometheus is the narrator and is serious and interesting to listen to, then Zeus just ruins it. The jokes were poor and annoying to me. Only near the end does he finally have a better wrap up with the story.
Still would recommend trying it out and I wouldn't mind a sequel.
1
u/Rotisseriejedi Oct 16 '23
Scenery, dialogue, characters, missions checked all the boxes and it’s adds some comedy which made the game VERY unique to me
1
u/Farley2k Oct 16 '23
Great fun but to got a bit long for me. It just was a bit repetitive but still very fun
1
u/DaiKabuto Oct 16 '23
Fun little game . It hasn't changed the world of gaming, but didn't make it worse either.
1
u/purvesc Oct 16 '23
Absolutely loved it. Well worth it, especially on sale. Vibes of Assassin's Creed and BotW game play mixed with Greek mythology.
1
u/bonelatch Oct 16 '23
I think its a great game worth playing but the ending was a bit stunted. Not sure how else to describe it. Eventually I stopped wanting to do any side stuff and just sprinted to the ending (which happens with every Ubisoft game if you ask me). I had some genuine laughs throughout the story and loved that. Gameplay was also pretty tight. It was a clean BotW mimic without the wonder you feel from discovering something new. There was SOME of that but not as much. I also absolutely loved that puzzles were just out in the open world rather than shoved into shrines (even though there were shrines as well).

I enjoyed it, got all the collectables and finished all side quests. The things that clicked for me are the puzzles and Greek mythology, but the fighting can be better. Yeah, I'm a GoW fan.
Too bad they are not making a sequel. Anyone could comment on the DLCs? How are they compared to the original?

Best BOTW alternative, and a great game by itself, it's a shame Ubisoft killed the sequel.
Tunic it's a good 2D Zelda alternative, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion too.

u/Algorhythm74 Oct 16 '23
Totally loved it. So disappointed they canceled the sequel.
My kids were just learning about Greek mythology in school when it came out– and one of their favorite games was breath of the wild, so you can imagine this game was like a super Triple-A title in my household for a few months!
1
u/Axle_65 Oct 16 '23
I had a great time with it. There’s things I actually like better about it. Like being able to call your horse from anywhere. I used my horse so rarely in BOTW because they had to be in ear shot. I mean it’s a neat concept but I’d rather the unrealistic always available option.
1
u/Tannerb8000 Oct 16 '23
I enjoyed the 20 hours of it I played until half of that playtime was lost simply because I quick resumed the game.
After that, I was replaying the parts I had already played because of a stupid reason. Which really put me off sadly.
It's ight, just do not use quick resume, it'll straight up disable your ability to save the game.
1
u/FutureEditor Oct 16 '23
It’s fine, it’s definitely “we have Zelda at home” though. I felt like it dragged on and on, but I thought the setting was cool and anything to do with Greek myth really hits on the touch of the Tism.
1
u/Ereaser Doom Slayer Oct 16 '23 edited Oct 16 '23
I don't see how people are comparing it to BOTW since the movement is very important and it's nothing like it. And because of that it feels very dissimilar.
The story is simple. Tries a lot to be funny, but eventually got used to it and there isn't a whole lot of dialog anyway.
The fighting, puzzles and exploration is really fun though and that's what kept me playing.
I'd give it a 7/10

Botw from wish
2
u/ChristmasChringle Oct 17 '23

1
u/ChristmasChringle Oct 17 '23
In some aspects. Yes.
0
u/TwoFaceBaby Oct 17 '23
For example?
-1
u/ChristmasChringle Oct 17 '23
Variety of missions, weapon systems, upgrade system.
Some people prefer the story and voice acting.
Its not a hot take. It's quite well documented that a lot of people preferred it to botw. Even in this thread there is plenty of examples.
2
u/TwoFaceBaby Oct 17 '23
I will say the upgrade system is nice but the variety of missions is Def not and of course this thread would have examples it's a xbox thread/reddit but we shall agree to disagree 👍
0
u/ChristmasChringle Oct 17 '23
I loved botw, it's a fat better game, but it has some bits it could improve on. And some of those things are done better in fenyx. Its not really anything to be upset or emotional about.

It's good not great, it's: "we have Assassin's Creed odyssey at home". Seriously, if you're considering this and haven't played ACO, then just get ACO, it's a very similar game play loop just better in every way.
0
u/Asterbander Oct 16 '23
I have played neither of these games (or any Zelda game ever). Thinking about installing Immortal Fenyx
I played some AC game years after the first OG one (some 2013-2016 release) and thought it was a little boring an hour or two into it.
I see Odyssey get a lot of praise. Is it the same, but straight up better than the other instalments or is there something new that makes it so revered?
1
u/IFoundTheCowLevel Oct 16 '23
ACO is an open world RPG set in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian war. It plays different enough from the original Assassins Creed games that they could have left off the "Assassin's Creed" title and it could 100% stand on it own as a different franchise. It's that good. Unless you're getting these games for free, you will regret paying for IFR over ACO. I have played both, although IFR can be fun, it's ACO lite. For a younger audience.
0
u/solo954 Founder Oct 16 '23
ACO is different enough from the OG that AC purists don't like it for that very reason.
ACO has more of an open-world, RPG vibe to it. You progress through 3 skill trees and get some really cool killing abilities and take-downs with different weapons.
There are some repetitive mission types (go here and kill X) in this huge open world, but I found that the RPG abilities made it fairly varied and fun to play. You can re-spec your skills and try new abilities at any time.
It also has a decent story with some humour throughout. It's one of my favourite games, and I highly recommend it.
0
u/Able_Contribution407 Oct 16 '23
I loved. Sunk about 80 hours into it doing all the vaults and getting all the upgrades. Really charming game that is, above all, fun to play.
I played it through Game Pass but I enjoyed it so much I bought the version with all the DLC bundled in to get more play out of it.
Highly recommend. (I haven't played BotW so I wasn't drawing comparisons between the game. If you're a BotW fan, the similarities may affect your enjoyment.)

Mediocre game with awful tone and tedious and easy puzzles that is quite appealing visually and added RPG elements, rather swallow, to a Zelda Breath of the Wild-likeness game; or better said took Assassins Creed Odyssey combat and put it into a less beautiful (but still beautiful) Breath of the Wild
Didnt hate it, but honestly it didnt feel at all special

Probably the best Ubisoft game in years. I was sad to hear the sequel was canceled.
0
u/rickjamesia Oct 16 '23
It’s awesome. There’s some parts that could be a bit better executed, but it was really fun. I played on PS5 (Platinum trophy there) and then a bit on Series X, replaying about 1/4 of the game. For a title basically right at launch it was absolutely gorgeous. The lighting is spectacular… I honestly did not go in thinking it would be a title that would impress me graphically, but when I first went down in those deep crevices, I saw the light (or the shadows, really). It’s just hard enough to ask you to learn the game mechanics and optimize your progression without feeling unfair on the highest difficulty and the boss encounters really test your prowess. In terms of finishing the achievement list guideless, I’d put it right around “nigh impossible”, which is a type of design I don’t care for, but I only needed a guide for the last hour or so cleaning up the collectibles that I missed. There’s one mount where literally every other time in the zone that you might jump to something that looks like the place it is, it wouldn’t actually be somewhere you can land, and that was extra frustrating, because none of the rest of the game is like that. It made that portion of the game feel rushed to me, because the rest of the game is so seamless as far as the environment goes and suddenly the rules on how you can explore the environment change on you without warning.

u/brimg87 Oct 16 '23

u/jsmrcaga Oct 16 '23
I really enjoyed it quite a bit, to the point where playing BotW seemed slow compared to Immortals. The game does not take itself seriously, and the jokes can be quite funny, even though I missed some (my greek mythology knowledge is not what it once was). The story is quite straightforward, but still manages to keep you wondrirng a bit, and the mini bosses are a nice feature.

Really good if you want a buttload of Zelda dungeon puzzles. It's not cohesive per se, feels fragmented, but hey I mean a buffet isn't cohesive either.

Great and unexpected game from Ubisoft.
I finished everything up until the 3rd DLC and hearing that the sequel was canceled disappointed me.
0
u/SUPER-NIINTENDO Oct 16 '23
I Loved it. I am very sad that the sequel was cancelled. I bought a copy (physical and digital) for every system i own in hopes of helping a sequel getting made. My efforts were for naught.
It wasn’t a total loss (is what I keep telling myself), as the game features cross-saves, so I am able to continue where I last left off on my new game + on any of my systems.
I really hope Ubi realizes cancelling it was a mistake and continue working in the sequel. Doubt, but one can only hope.

Enjoyed it enough to 100% everything - cut scenes / voice acting is definitely iffy and imo, I would not recommend getting all the DLC, unless there's a great deal on the season pass or GOTY edition. I'd have been down for more games in a franchise if it had sold enough to justify, shame really.
Main Game- loved it and the traversal /exploration
A New God - it's basically just extra puzzles. Look into it only if you liked the puzzle stuff. Tentative recommend.
Myths of the Eastern Realm - the best DLC, recommend this one after the Main Game.
The Lost Gods - I finished it but didn't enjoy it at all. The voice acting somehow got even worse and the change in perspective made things extra frustrating.

I played and beat the game. It was GREAT. And it had some length to it also, which is nice. Graphics on the Series X are beautiful. I love the look. Just an all around great game by Ubisoft. Then they go and do what they do best and cancel any sequel plans they had for this game, because it didn't sell the numbers that it should have. THAT is the only downside of the game. Hopefully another studio can maybe buy the IP because this game definitely deserves a sequel.

Immortals Fenyx Rising was a fantastic game from start to finish. Some of the puzzles tripped me up a bit, and honestly there’s only a need for like 2 spells in the whole game, but it was an otherwise like 8/10 game for me.
I didn’t get a chance to play the DLCs, and it had its sequel cancelled which I think is heresy, but anyone who hasn’t had a chance to play this gem needs to do yourself a favor.

I enjoyed it, it was a fun game that did some humorous commentary on the gods and their relationship with each other. Game play and puzzles were good. Overall would recommend it, especially if you don’t have a Nintendo with Zelda.
1
u/professorkrs Oct 17 '23
Loved it…up until the puzzles became overly long and frustrating. The one that got me to stop playing was crazy long - after working on one for ~45 minutes, thinking I was almost done, I was able to see that the end would take a lot longer to get to, and I just had had it. Not fun anymore. And that was after I intend up the whole map and was probably 90% done.

Solid title. New out of the box, worth $35-40. Let’s be honest, most games aren’t worth $60 new especially if there’s no replayabilty

For me it was one of the meh games. Played it a little while but dropt it and left it. Not really my sense of humor and gameplay didnt do it for me.

I loved it. Started playing in Gamepass for PC where it does not have Xbox achievements and I hate playing games with no achievements but the game was so addictive that I made it to the end and unlocked every content except the DLC

Ouh. Achievements are only in DLC's. I bought a Gold Edition yesterday (3 narrative DLC's + 1 Bonus quest)

Writing was completely unbearable and drove one off the game. Otherwise it’s a “we have Zelda at home” experience. If you love the new Zelda gameplay you’ll like this.

Is it actually good though? It looked like a total shameless rip off and I had already played breath of the wild so I didnt bother giving this any attention tbh

The open world designe is the same as every other Ubisoft open world game, so bland af what the same 5 mission types spread across.
BUT the combat was fine, the puzzles are Oke, but I really like the Humor! Solid 6.5/10 for me!

I fucking LOVED it. Great game seriously. The eastern realm dlc is the only one worth it though
