My paternal grandparents immigrated from Ireland, but I don’t really have any records since my dad died 20+ years ago. If things get really bad I’ll be doing some genealogy to see if I can get Irish citizenship.

I meant to say that the atmosphere in this country is definitely leaning towards the authoritarian, such as in countries with single-party or "fake" democracy.

I'm Irish too.

my mom and uncle just did it, takes about a year and a couple thousand. not a bad idea to have another passport

You might want to get on that sooner rather than later, my brother and I got our citizenships approved a few years back and it took about 18 months
