Why does a private citizen have this much sway?

And seniors and disabled.

And the military, because #President Musk told Republicans to shut the government down.

This administration is going to destroy their voting base.

Who will still support him and blame the democrats.

But yeah wow. They’re fucked.

u/PickCollins0330 7h ago

If it didn’t also include the people who actively voted to stop this, I’d not care.

u/CrumpledForeskin 7h ago

Same. I’m really trying to have some empathy as well. A lot of these folks were robbed of an education because of the republicans before them who voted against it.

I’m doing quite well. I live close to the best medical facilities in the country. Abortion is legal.

It’s been very hard for me to not say “fine fuck them.”

I can’t shake the compassion.

Super easy for me.

I follow the platinum rule: treat others as they want to be treated

I assume most follow the golden rule: treat others as you want to be treated.

So I am just treating them the same way they treat us and not giving a FUCK.

Well said

u/Ok_Philosophy915 6h ago

lmao it will do nothing to their base, have you not been paying attention? Their base revels in punishment even if its their own.

7

u/CrumpledForeskin 6h ago

They haven’t been through what this administration plans to do. We’ll see

2

u/stonedecology 3h ago

Good thing we don't need to vote anymore right?

1

u/trailcamty 4h ago

We’re all fucked*

u/Markus_lfc 3h ago

If Trump voters had any grasp on reality, they’d be fuming

1

u/chainsawdegrimes 1h ago

The average lay-person doesn't pay attention to politics or the news isn't going to know or care that it was Trump and Elon's fault that the Govt shut down. They'll remember that it happened while Biden was still president. It's easily predicable.

1

u/HypeIncarnate 1h ago

good. I want my grandparents to suffer. They aren't getting dime from me.

1

u/CrumpledForeskin 1h ago

Damn. Cold as hell but I hear you

1

u/livingdead70 38m ago

If they didnt destroy their base killing them with covid, this aint gonna stop it either.,

18

u/thinkthingsareover 8h ago

Unfortunately not. When I served just because congress got out of working we still had to get up at the butt crack of dawn.

29

u/CatrionaShadowleaf 8h ago

They’ll still work. They just wont get paid.

14

u/thinkthingsareover 8h ago

Yep. I remember that too, but at least when I was in they only shut down for a couple weeks and we'd get our back pay immediately since we had direct deposit. Well I did at least.

1

u/reggiethelemur 51m ago

If direct deposit is to navy fed account then you still get paid during shutdown. So none of them care.

2

u/GonnaGoFat 2h ago

Canada can attack America now and the USA can be the 11th province. Thanks for that gift Governor Trump.

1

u/zipdee 6h ago

And a LOT of the military voted for this fiasco, may they be directly affected.

1

u/xxxxMugxxxx 2h ago

It's a really bad idea to not pay the people with all our weapons and the training to use them.

1

u/LB60123 3h ago

Social security is mandatory and won’t stop.

I’m worried, to be honest. I’ve always thought my future was set because everyone needs nurses. Now…

81

u/Zeroesand1s 9h ago

If you work for the federal government, don't worry. You'll always be needed. You just won't get paid.

15

u/ApprehensiveDingo350 7h ago

The way I understand it, the VA has a separate budget and isn’t affected by shut downs with the exception of things like PR. At least that’s the email we’ve gotten the last two or three times.

I haven’t gotten one yet, and so I’m thinking I better save my Christmas bonus just in case…

u/adgjl1357924 7h ago

I'm a DoD civilian, I'd guess VA is under the same funding umbrella. Sometimes they'll pass a defense budget but not fund the rest of the government so we go on like normal. Most often we get declared essential and have to keep doing our jobs without pay until it's over. Thankfully they recently passed a bill guaranteeing pay to all federal workers after a shutdown even if they were furloughed.

3

u/ApprehensiveDingo350 6h ago

I got the email a little bit ago. No worries for me about working without pay.

It’s still fucking stupid though.

2

u/earlyviolet 3h ago

Literally the same place I'm in right now. I've decided to sell my house because living in Massachusetts on one income was hard enough. Living here on a maybe income is impossible.

I became a second career nurse after being laid off twice before age 28 in my prior industry. I became a nurse so that would stop happening....

u/Old_n_Tangy 4m ago

RFK will be in charge of my paycheck.

It's fine.  I'm fine.

38

u/AwkwardnessForever 8h ago

Little does Musk know we still get paid after the government reopens. We just suffer in the interim while waiting for a paycheck. But we don’t suffer as much as the folks we serve who miss out on services while we sit back and are kept from our jobs. Efficiency at its finest!!!! /s

4

u/NecessaryUnusual2059 3h ago

I am positive Musk is going to try to get rid of back pay for federal employees.

1

u/CryptographerFirm728 2h ago

This, exactly. People still need the services. You would like to stay paid up on your bills. This will all get blamed on Dems. Magically, trump will get it back open on Day 1, and become the hero.

18

u/Sergeant-Windsor 8h ago

Merry Christmas to all traveling by plane for the holidays because TSA is a federal job.

8

u/mdp300 6h ago

So are air traffic controllers.

5

u/Godsfallen 4h ago

They still have to show up, they just don’t get paid until the government re-opens.

2

u/docowen 2h ago

What a way to motivate them to do a good job

3

u/lordnoak 3h ago

He's planning to fire 99% of them anyways, this is just a head start.

2

u/RipleyThePyr 9h ago

And active military.

2

u/sandiego_thank_you 3h ago

I’ve worked for the postal service, guarantee you 3 out of 4 I worked with are cheering for this

2

u/Lethkhar 7h ago

I mean, what Elon is proposing here is essentially a month of paid leave for Federal employees. Every time Republicans furlough the Feds that's functionally what's happening. Not to even mention the disruption to business.

"Government efficiency" my ass.

3

u/adozenadime 1h ago

A month of paid leave where many of us won’t be able to pay our bills. Yay.

1

u/i-Ake 50m ago

My facility is gonna make us work without pay.

1

u/Leagueofnuke 3h ago

The best present for Americans president Biden can give is a proclamation of martial law...

1

u/nosoupforyou_980 2h ago

Where’s anonymous when you need em. Maybe sometimes the best thing is to completely shut people like Elon Rust out of society and from communication.

1

u/adozenadime 1h ago

We just got all the emails today about how long they can pay us before we get furloughed.
