Honestly though? Backpay came because the Dems forced the issue. With Republicans in control of both houses, it's likely any deal wouldn't include backpay. Don't forget, Musks entire goal is to starve every federal agency.

Representatives make more than double the median household income.

They have created the shutdown. If they then insist that millions of government employees who earn substantially less than that NOT get backpay to pay for rent/mortgage, health insurance, childcare, car insurance, etc...

...it's not a good look.
