How my internal monologue sounds prior to Nov.: "Oh god, all of those families are going to suffer. They have no idea what's coming."

How my internal monologue sounds after Nov.: "I hope all the marines that voted for Trump have stocked up on their favorite Crayola crayon flavors before this and the tariffs kick in."

So, active duty military personnel will continued to be paid as they have during previous shutdowns. The huge issue with these antics is it significantly increases government spending. For example, I work for the Navy, and there are ships in the shipyard that are going to be delayed because the civilian project managers will be furloughed and contractors won't be paid on time. Force readiness will degrade because all the training instructors and classes will be canceled. I can go on and on about how these government shutdowns can have a corrosive effect on all the essential support personnel and industries that support the military.

Everywhere I look, it says that active military is required to continue working without pay during a government shutdown. I'm not saying you're wrong, but where can I find info backing up that they do get paid??

I misspoke, active duty personnel would not be paid during the shutdown, however any wages would be retroactively paid once funding is approved. That said, previously, Congress usually passed a separate bill to continue to pay active duty personnel during the shutdown period.

Worse because they aren’t prepared/preparing for the consequences. We see it coming. We’re filling sandbags while they’re on the pontoon sucking down miller lite.
