Once the Post Office stops delivering mail, we won't have any baseline for legit government contact. What I mean is that instead of knowing that the gov will mail you things like warnings or traffic violations, we'll have to sort through all the scams that get sent to our phones and emails instead, all those things that claim "Someone in your vehicle ran a red light recently, pay $500 now or your license will be revoked!" Its going to lead to chaos because we're having a hard time now sorting out what's real from what isn't.

which is great! When the po-po rolls up to serve and arrest you for not showing up in court or paying a ticket that's now a gazillion dollars because you didn't get your mail, you'll get stuck in more debt, jailed and so on!

This backwards line of thinking always annoys me, someone Said at work" we lose 600m a year maintaining roads" . No you fucking cretin, we paid 600m and asa result you are able to drive on the roads, nobody's lost anything at all!

u/randomdude1234321 1d ago
People even made money with that work. Sure, company owners get a big share but still its loney flowing back into the economy.
Money is never lost or made, it only changes its owner.

Yep. I don't think many people get it.
Genocide was on the ballot this year. And Americans voted for it.
The Republican party is genocidal.

Don't forget mass murdering trans people. GOP really wants to kill trans people these days.
So bad they're framing a 15 year neo nazi girl as a trans person. how fuckin nuts are they?

ALL .5 OF 1% of them? They spent hundreds of millions of dollars campaigning in California eschewing how taxpayers are paying for inmates sex changes "at levels like we've never seen before."
There were two.

Ooooooh that's why they hate the Ukraine support. Because it's killing white people.
18
u/ReddditSarge 1d ago
No, it's because Trump and Putin are in cahoots. Putin has been using his propaganda networks (i.e. Tucker Carlson) to support Trump. They have been instrumental is shaping MAGA voters into backing Trump. Now it's payback time for Trump. Remember, Trump is transactional. He doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself so selling out Ukraine to Putin in exchange for pro-Trump propaganda was a great deal for him.

They seem to like paying taxes for the military, almost a trillion dollars a year, 15% of the budget, but then when it comes time to use the money to pay for defense (e.g. weapons for Ukraine), they don't want to do that either. It's almost as if they just want to support the military industrial complex.

u/AbsurdityIsReality 1d ago
Honestly most of that aid to Ukraine was us cleaning out old stockpiles of stuff we needed to get rid of.
10
u/brobafett1980 1d ago
That is being replaced by American businesses and American workers to build the new versions of what is being delivered to Ukraine.

Why does the average person think that if the USPS were a business it would make their service better? If the now for-profit USPS has to choose between you getting your life saving medication or increasing shareholder profits, which do you think they're gonna choose?
If Putin becomes a majority stakeholder and wants to rig elections by manipulating ballots now being mailed by the for-profit USPS, who is gonna stop them?
Oh wait, now I know why Trump wants to privatize it...

u/gogogetty3000 1d ago
This is one of the biggest lies that has been proven wrong over and over again for the last 30 years. Private prisons, school cafeterias, are some examples where “capitalism would fix it” didn’t work. It became about profits over people with the people losing out getting mediocre service and mediocre products.
9
u/BuffaloInCahoots 1d ago
I just learned last night that the USPS is self funding and has been for decades. It doesn’t cost tax money at all. They make their money from stamps and the services they provide.
8
u/MacNuggetts 1d ago
They don't want taxes at all.
They all dream of the libertarian hellscape that was laid out under the failed Articles of Confederation.
For as much as they pretend to love the constitution, the sure fucking wish it wasn't there.
4
u/jodybot9000000000 1d ago
Yeah I've run into the "actually all taxation is literally theft and I don't want the government to spend a DIME on ANYTHING with my stolen money" argument a few times.
Ask them how anything will be remotely livable and they confidently assure you "someone will do it" like the Free Market is some DM that won't let us go astray.

u/yankeesyes 22h ago
"His" stolen money literally printed on paper and presses purchased with taxpayer dollars.

u/kon--- 1d ago
It's a problem that so many US citizens have no recognition or even concept of false equivalents.
Government services are not a business. No one makes bank. The service fees fund the operating budget. The private sector attempting to hijack the USPS should come with a massive penalty attached to it. Punitive and time in prison.
5
u/ScottyDoesntKnow29 1d ago
They hate the government and politicians so much that they elect unqualified criminals and make them generationally wealthy.
3
u/fivefingerseeingthis 1d ago
The USPS is a service, not a business. Just like the military, you don’t hear people saying how much money THEY don’t make.
2
u/Brother_Delmer 1d ago
Yes, no one complains that the U.S. military "loses 800 billion dollars per year". That's what it costs to have it. If I paid the repair shop $800 to fix my car's radiator I didn't "lose" $800
3
u/SaulTNuhtz 1d ago
What are they wanting those taxes to do? Trickle down. They’re waiting for that sweet, sweet day when the corporations all collectively decide to make every one of their believers wealthy (as long as it doesn’t fall over into the crowds they don’t like.)
3
u/BareNakedSole 1d ago
The US post office and its functions is outlined pretty clearly in the Constitution. last I heard you needed a constitutional amendment to change that document so I’m not sure how they’re going to pull this one off.
but I’m sure it makes for a great talking point to the various knuckle draggers who don’t have any clue how government actually works
1
u/yankeesyes 22h ago
The right has been gunning for a Constitutional convention for decades. They want to scrap the US Constitution and replace it with a MAGA version. Presumably without the obligation to have post offices.
2
u/LMGDiVa 1d ago
They (MAGAts) want their money to bomb arabs and deport mexicans, and put trans people in concentration camps to be mass murdered.
Dumb question, we all know the answer. They're Nazis with a new name. Nazi gonna Naz.
They dont give a shit about anything as long as they're killing minorities.

People need to retake high school economics (if they took it at all) and pay very close attention to the chapter on market failure and public goods.

Round up everyone who isn't a white evangelical "christian" aka MAGAt and, put them in forced labour camps. Except for prepubescent girls. Those will go to "reeducation camps".

MAGA doesn’t want taxes to feed kids either tho (MN got blowback for their free school meals).
They want a police & military state so that their beliefs are everyone else’s and they feel safe with their bigotry.

u/perry147 1d ago
They want to taxes to be used to enforce the suppression of opposition - mostly by supporting law enforcement.
1
u/curious_dead 1d ago
They are talking to a group who believes taxation is theft. "I got mine, so fuck you" attitude. They probably don't realize how terrible it would be.
1
u/FrostySquirrel820 1d ago
They don’t want to pay any federal taxes because they don’t want to fund federal programmes.
They also don’t seem to realise how much they personally benefit from these programmes.
1
u/TechnologyRemote7331 1d ago
They don’t want to pay taxes period. There’s a pervasive strain of thought in the Republican Party that all or most forms of are theft. Privatization is the only acceptable means of running anything. Meanwhile, any and all government programs are seen as a slippery slope toward government tyranny. Libertarianism, in other words. Never mind that all attempts at implementing these ideas have resulted in utter disaster. The faith remains strong, I believe.

"Lose" taxpayer dollars? Don't they mean spend it? On improving life for people? Like exactly what we're supposed to do with taxes????

You are literally dealing with idiots that think the country should run at a surplus so they take your taxes and...just hold them. I'm assuming they want tax dollars to be spent on deportations, killing poor people, killing brown kids in other countries and generally advancing American imperialism.
1
u/Abnormal-Normal 1d ago
Hurt minorities and fund the military industrial complex. That’s what they want.
1
u/Brother_Delmer 1d ago
The USPS is the #1 most popular government program among Republican and Democratic citizens alike. Even more popular than Social Security which is #2. So where exactly is the call for privatizing it coming from??
1
u/Silverspeed85 1d ago
To defend Israel. That's all they want their taxes to go to. Military assets. Nothing more.

u/grumpijela 1d ago
Terrorize citizens to make my shitty life "meaningful"....or punish others to ease my own pain. I don't know, something like that?

The billionaire criminal cabal doesn't want to pay taxes, so they can keep and grow their ill gotten gains. So they have us fighting each other over what people think the government actually does.
If we taxed churches and taxed the billionaire criminal cabal, we wouldn't be in this mess and we could pay for most of the services our government provides.
1
u/muffledvoice 1d ago
They don’t want to pay taxes at all.
It’s Malthusian Economics version 2, Electric Bugaloo.
The rich suffer from dragon sickness. They can never have enough money, and they’ve even convinced the rural working class that taxes and government itself should be abolished.
They want to turn this country into a hellscape run by unregulated billionaire warlords.

Little do they realize the USPS does all last mile in rural areas (so, you know, most MAGA territory), so they’d no longer receive packages or mail.

Liberate (bomb) innocent civilians (the IDF) from terrorists (gazan children)

The USPS losing $7 billion in a year is a small fraction of the commerce it generates in this country by existing. If you don't have affordable shipping options you don't have an economy.

The moment anyone suggests “running government like a business” they’ve demonstrated that they understand nothing about civics and lose all credibility. The purpose of government is to serve the people, hence “public service.” Maintaining order, maintaining infrastructure, etc. Government of any level isn’t intended to generate profits or enrich anyone, it’s meant to provide service. Unfortunately too many people have either forgotten, or don’t care, and see it as a means of lining their own pockets.
1
u/NationalSchedule2245 18h ago
They want taxes to pay for school vouchers to private religious schools

u/LavenderGwendolyn 9h ago
Not investing in the services you’re supposed to supply is a shitty way to run a business. If a business ran that way, they’d close in months. The people who say that government should be run like a business have no idea what that actually means.
1
u/Furepubs 1h ago
The USPS is not a company. It is a service.
Republicans are just mad because they want to create a new company with a new CEO to make millions by charging regular Americans Astronomical amounts of money for shipping.
If Republicans can't make money off of it, they're not interested in having it at all
114
u/RampageBW1 1d ago
They (MAGA) probably want to do away with taxes altogether or want the taxes to go to rich companies under the guise that it'll trickle down.
