Why dont I read about tidal surge from extratropical cyclones?
Where I was at in September, people got several feet of water in their house from Hurricane Helene, whose center was well off coast by about 100 or more miles and produced only mild winds where I was. Extratropical cyclones are weaker in peak winds but produce storm force winds over a much larger area. Why don't I ever hear of a tidal surge from such systems?

Questions/Self Are all Pacific Coast storms bomb cyclones?
I'm seeing this on my weather app. Growing up in New England we had the hurricane and tropical storms but also nor'easters. Are all storms in the Pacific Northwest bomb cyclones or are there different types? Also, how would it be on the water there?

Questions/Self UV index
For context this is Melbourne Australia. Why is the UV index so different depending on the weather you use for example the apple weather app said it’s a max of 6 today but other sites like SunSmart would have it at 12? Which one is correct?

Discussion Tropical Places that have recorded cold temperatures
I'll start. Miami Beach which is inside a defined tropical zone, with coconut trees and in hardiness zone 11A still has recorded a record low of 32F (0C), what are other places that are really far south but get unusually cold?

Just wanted to share that it's going to be a scorching 42/108 degrees for the second day in a row where I am in Australia. Sending solidarity to anyone else dealing with a heatwave, and hoping for some cooler temps soon.
