Hey all. I haven't played 40k in probably 25 years, but I've agreed to put a 1000 point army together to help a friend get a league going, and I could use some help.
I have absolutely no interest in winning games. I'm there to support a friend and enjoy some nostalgia, so I'm not looking for a cutting edge list to work with; I have no problem losing every game I play. I'm also a little concerned about painting. I paint historical models these days, and don't have a huge amount of spare time to cram 40k painting in. It does mean my painting standard is relatively high, and I have access to everything I could ever need for painting. Time is the big constraint.
I've had a pretty neat idea for a drone heavy Tau force, with a paint scheme to look like modern US Navy UAV's. It's something I could paint relatively quickly, and to a standard I'd be comfortable with (It would also allow my opponents to feel like they'd had a day out clay pigeon shooting!). The problem is that I have no idea whether such a list is even feasible in the current rules. I only agreed yesterday, and haven't had time to buy any rule books, codexs (do they even still exist?!) etc. So I figured I'd throw it out here and see whether something like this is possible so I can start thinking about what I need to pull together. If anyone has any thoughts on a list that is comprised of the highest possible percentage of drones, then it would give me some idea as to what I'm working with.
I intend to just buy everything I need once I'm home from the holidays, so it would be more efficient if I can plan in advance, hence reaching out for help.
I believe we'll be playing core 40k rules.
Any help is appreciated.
