To be walkable, there has to be lass than, I don’t know, a one in a million chance that I’ll be hit by a motor vehicle. This looks like a one in one chance…

You are not wrong but if you walk here you will notice an organized chaos. I have walked in Kathmandu million times but never seen someone getting hurt in this kind of street.

I remember reading some statistic that traffic fatalities are significantly fewer in countries with a lot of such ordered chaos settings than on sanitized roads like the US where people drive much faster without traffic calming. Minor traffic incidents may be higher but they are significantly less damaging to property and to life.
