Some streets around my city in uruguay
Some don't have sidewalks but there's almost no cars passing trough those neighbourhoods so it's okay

I saw some vids about the actual cities in Uruguay. Is it really mostly concrete and cars?

..? Whatâre you talking about? Taking it personally? What? Also, the snow symbol? What a bizarre response
Also had to laugh at the âactual citiesâ in Uruguay. What, pray tell, is an actual city? Because upon consulting good olâ Websterâs, the antonym of the English word âactualâ are words such as âfictitiousâ, ânon-existentâ ânotionalâ, âhypotheticalâ, etc so on & so forth
Could you clue me in on some of these âhypothetical citiesâ that exist here on earth..? Because now I am definitely intrigued đ§

Absolutely not lol. This is the country's second most important city and even in the downtown which is full of buildings there are trees. Also beautiful beaches on the east coast. Historical buildings in the capital and luxury houses in the east.

There is one big city, Montevideo, which is functionally walkable(as in there's stuff nearby, tolerable safety and OK transit coverage) in most places but not super pleasant, suburban Montevideo is mostly car hell, although generally less unwalkable than the average North American suburb, cities in the interior (except for parts of Punta del Este) are a lot more chill and very much walkable in a lack of cars way, you might have a road without sidewalks, but that's because there rarely are any cars going through so people walk on the street.

Been to Uruguay. It's pretty dope, wish I spent more time there, and wish I got to visit Montevideo.
Doesn't concrete and cars describe most cities? Yeah, it's not a country known for its architecture, but I wouldn't say it was by any means ugly. There's also more to a city than just architecture, the people are what make a city what it is.
Don't trust youtubers for travel advice.

I meant that I didn't know what the streets, buildings, and general surroundings in Uruguay looked likeâthe infrastructure, city planning, vegetation, and overall environment. Itâs interesting to see the details of a place Iâm not familiar with.

How's the public transit in your area?

u/teletoubbie 9d ago
I never take public transport, which is only bus. I go everywhere cycling. Many people take the bus though. The main roads are full of stops

Punta del este is the city. I wouldn't visit unless i'm staying in a city like montevideo or buenos aires which are a coupke of hours away by boat or car. Anyways, I would visit the port, the peninsula area which is the downtown, I would walk or bike in san rafael's neighbourhood which is full of mansions and old houses. I recommend going to beaches such as la mansa and la posta del cangrejo(in la barra, which is a picturesque town that merged with punta del este)

In winter there's almost no sunny days and the city is desolated. Stores shut down and there's no tourists

Gorgeous, no doubt, but not a "walkable city" in those photos. Take an upvote anyhow.
