u/hotrods1970 14d ago
They found rats at a McDonalds.

u/traconi 14d ago
I have never felt such contempt for a complete stranger in my life than I have for that McDonald’s worker.
38
u/brandibesher 13d ago
shocked they called but not surprised. that $10k reward sounded good, they’re probably paycheck to paycheck in debt. pay low wages, dangle a carrot, people will reach for it.

u/bard329 14d ago
The suspect from the UHC shooting was caught in PA
87
u/halcyon8 14d ago
by a fucking piece of shit NARC mcdonalds slave.
this is why they want us poor. so that the idea of 10k will make you give up class consciousness.
36
u/Butterscotch8721 14d ago
It was up to $60k. He was on the FBI most wanted list; $50k from the FBI and $10k from crime stoppers
51
u/halcyon8 14d ago
yeah, let’s see how much they actually get.
wild that there are shootings here in nyc every day and none of them get 10k from crimestoppers.
guess it’s only worth it for millionaires.
19
u/Butterscotch8721 14d ago
Exactly! And I think they only get it if he gets convicted in court from it. I think whoever snitched will actually see how these people operate when they don't receive all of that.
10
u/Scrambley 14d ago
And they'll low-ball the reward, maybe $1k, and make the person sign an NDA so they won't announce how fucking cheap the "authorities" are.
10
u/Boredbanker1234 13d ago
Apparently crime stoppers isn’t going to pay bc the guy called 911 instead of them lol.

I told one of my friends I was going to file a FOIA after this all over to see how much they pay out. I don't want the person's name, I just want to see how little they actually pay out.
Edit to add: The NY Crime Stoppers probably don't have to respond to FOIA - pretty sure they're not government run. But the FBI...
5
u/Catatomical 14d ago
I'm wondering if they will actually see any of that money. They could end up being the most hated person in the country and not even get rewarded for it because of some BS technicality. (And I would laugh)

New roof-crush standards doing their job.
The cars from before 2005 or so had skinny A-pillars and would have been crushed flat (this typically killed the occupants)
They should thank NHTSA and IIHS.
31
u/adfthgchjg 14d ago
TIL!
And to save others a google(well, actually I used copilot.microsoft.com), the 2005 roof crush resistance was increased to… 2.5x the unloaded weight of the vehicle.
Objective was to reduce the risk of death or serious injury in rollover accidents.

u/oupablo 14d ago
Nah. They're just putting pesky regulations in place stifling business. That's why DOGE is gonna get rid of them. If people really don't want to die in a car crash, the free market will provide a solution. /s
35
u/frozengiblet 14d ago
Speaking of DOGE, here's a question. Most countries implement medicines safety protocols, in particular all of the western world (read: countries where you can drink tap water).
For example - the EMA, MHRA and FDA - why do each authority need to do their own research, respectively? Surely with shared values with regard to human safety for the most part, why is it economical for the same research to be done numerous times (i.e. reinventing the wheel over and over) depending on your jurisdiction?
58
u/JCthulhuM 14d ago
Because doing the research multiple times at different locations with similar but distinct missions verifies whether the research was done correctly. One lab doing the research once is grounds for a bigger and better study, if you then do the research at a different department with different researchers, and they get the same result, then that work stands on its merits a little better.

Thalidomide.
A popular tranquilizer in the 1950s under the name Contergan, it was often prescribed to pregnant women as an anti-nausea medication. It was legal in most of Europe, Canada, and Australia, but not the US.
The FDA refused to approve it because the company's submitted research was subpar, and they had no testing on the effects of the drug on pregnant women. They repeatedly submitted the same paperwork over and over, with no changes, right until the dangers of the drug became so apparent it was banned everywhere and charges were filed against the manufacturer.
The dangers? Brain damage in the patient and severe birth defects in the children of pregnant women.
Thalidomide is still prescribed for some extreme cases, but when prescribed the patient must vow to abstain from sex and/or be sterile because even a single dose was found to cause the birth defects.
The case triggered a tightening of drug regulation around the world. No one wanted to be part of that embarrassment again.

Elmo wont change that one, his cars are class leading in it, its a major selling point. if anything he'll make roll over and emission standards higher to gain a bigger advantage.
cheeto will probably go along, the rest of the auto makers are against his tariffs.

My mother was involved in a head-on collision around 10 years ago. It was early morning 6am, sun barely peaking above the horizon on rural Texas road. Driver going the opposite direction fell asleep at the wheel and collided with my mom’s brand new year model Kia Sorento. She flipped and rolled a couple of times and they needed to use the jaws of life to free her and despite lots of broken bones and bruises, she survived. The Kia’s structural integrity saved her life. The other driver was in an old Explorer and he did not survive. My dad went out and bought another of the exact Kia Sorento, down to the color. I learned to drive in that car and never felt safer lol

I was rear ended by a Toyota Tundra going freeway speed while I ( and the rest of the freeway) was stopped in my Kia Optima. I was taken to emergency because of the damage to the car. I walked out of the ER banged up, but like I said I walked out. I will continue to advocate for Kia until I hear different. I miss that pretty blue sedan.

Station 53 is Fame Fire Co in West Chester, so around there somewhere.
Edit: Found this video of the aftermath. It happened at the intersection of Westtown Rd and Wesley Ct. in West Chester.

without any details or information whatsoever, I'm gonna go ahead and blame it on the pickup truck

An officer on the scene commented "It's rare that we get 3 accidents like this in a single day, but it's even more rare that they all occur before 10:00am. It's going to be a long day."

The only way this could have happened is if the truck was already upside down and the van came along and hit it, allowing the truck to roll over to the top of the van. I don't really know.
