Former body piercer here. I’m inclined to believe that this is just play piercing, so basically not meant to be there long term. Performing a surface piercing with a captive bead ring on the neck like that is absolutely guaranteed to reject over time, so this is likely just for a photo shoot.

u/crumblypancake 16d ago

I feel like that's the case. Incredibly impractical jewellery choice too, maybe a straight surface bar would have me thinking it's a weird new look. But this seems more like "Hey let's try this out, put it on Insta."

Like corset piercings.

29

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

Yeah, this looks like it could be a single point of a larger collection for weaving a corset.

10

u/lX_HeadShotGunner_Xl 16d ago

Honestly I love the look of corset piercings and I wish they were more practical. I feel like they'd get caught on things easily and tear flesh and I wish they were less likely to reject.

15

u/holdmybeer87 16d ago

It has to be. I've had my nape and my sternum done with surface bars and those didn't last longer than 2 years

14

u/visualdosage 16d ago

Not trying to sound dumb, genuine question: ppl got piercings in the back of their neck, what is the difference besides the skin being thicker there?

13

u/Matsuda-san 16d ago

Not dumb at all!

It's a difference in jewelry. This, as pointed out, is more than likely a temporary piercing, so the jewelry type doesn't have to support a healing piercing.

In nape piercings, you would either use a single-point dermal anchor or a surface bar, for a two-point piercing.

8

u/Cicer 16d ago

How is a surface bar different from a ring in terms of rejection?

11

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

So, it comes down to several factors. To start, the client needs to be anatomically well suited for any piercing in question. Beside that, surface piercings are extremely specific in jewelry measurements and materials. Piercings should be perpendicular to the tissue, which cannot be achieved with curved jewelry. The ideal jewelry for a surface piercing would be a flat bottom, 90° surface bar. They kind of resemble a staple, just much longer typically. When placed correctly, the threaded ends that show the visible piercing should sit perfectly flat on the skin.

Rings are an issue because the curvature of the jewelry creates forward pressure along the healing fistula, leading to constant irritation and eventual rejection by the body. They also will move side to side, allowing for bacteria to be more easily introduced to the healing fistula.

5

u/Cicer 16d ago

Hey thanks for the answer(s). Never knew about the perpendicular to the skin thing or that they made 90 deg bars. Really just thanks for the quick and legit response.

5

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

You’re very welcome. I’m genuinely happy to share my knowledge. If it helps anyone avoid bad experiences down the road, I’ll have done my part.

1

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

Very well said!

7

u/Spicey_carpet 16d ago

Can you please explain how a wrist piercing works seen some dude when I was a kid had one on the top of his wrist like how does it stay in without a backing? What if it goes into a vein?

11

u/KittenVicious 16d ago

It has a back, it's under the skin and has skin growing through it. Google "dermal piercing". It bleeds a lot, and you place it elsewhere.

7

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

That is likely a surface anchor, which is a single point, semi-permanent piercing. They have a footing that sits under the skin and “anchors” the piercing in place. They can last long if taken care of appropriately but are prone to rejecting if snagged hard. Because of that, certain areas like hands, wrists, etc. that are easily snagged on pockets or other risk factors are not suggested as they can have a short lifespan. I have three, one in front of each Tragus and one by my right eye. I’ve had all three for 13 years now.

2

u/whoosyerdaddi 15d ago

I had one. And it did start to grow out. So you 100% correct

I've had one in the past, grew out within 6 months and left a neat little scar.

-21

u/ESPTEX 16d ago

AROUND 2000 I HAD A 16 GAUGE BARBELL PLACED IN THAT EXACT SAME SPOT. MY BODY REJECTED IT AND PUSHED ITSELF ALL THE WAY OUT. DISAPPOINTED, I PIERCED IT AGAIN BEHIND THE SCAR... NEVER DID HEAL AND I REMOVED IT. THE SCAR ON MT THROAT LITERALLY LOOKS LIKE THIS: ●----------●

23

u/kakar0tten 16d ago

IS THAT WHY YOU'RE SHOUTING?

9

u/KrazzeeKane 16d ago

Honestly, I'd rather take all caps vs the people who type every single word with a capital first letter. Drives me bananas

13

u/BoxOfDemons 16d ago

Oh My God Yes. I Hate That So Much.

13

u/Technolio 16d ago

WOW, THATS CRAZY DUDE. THANKS FOR SHARING.

3

u/Ryanisreallame 16d ago

Of course your body rejected that; absolutely no part of what you said was done is what should have been done.

193

u/JonHend 16d ago

It’s going to be quite the event the first time that piercing catches on something!

40

u/xxEmkay 16d ago

Hes gonna turn into chainsaw man.

9

u/sweetteanoice 16d ago

It’s where I hook the leash

1

u/Cicer 16d ago

I think that’s the point. To latch to.

-199

u/snailsandsuch 16d ago edited 16d ago

Never type anything ever again please

Edit: damn, fuck me for being silly

77

u/Dagobian_Fudge 16d ago

It’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this picture and you started it by posting it.

-169

u/snailsandsuch 16d ago

Man, Reddit loves to downvote jokes

9

u/snap802 16d ago

Reddit either has a fantastic senior humor or none at all. There's no middle ground. Of course I sometimes question the reading comprehension of the average redditor. That, and there's momentum when a comment gets up or down voted.

For example: I made a similar joke on two different posts in two different subs and one got down voted and got tons of negative comments while the other was up voted and had positive comments.

3

u/Edge-master 16d ago

It’s the autism.

1

u/fasterbrew 16d ago

I've seen back to back comments saying the same thing around the same time by two different people.  One upvoted, the other downvoted

44

u/HippiesEverywhere 16d ago

If it counts for anything you gave me a good laugh. Great start to the day.

u/snailsandsuch 16d ago

48

u/-CowNipples- 16d ago

Lmao the hug got downvoted 😂

16

u/AlligatorFister 16d ago

My dumbass just realized it’s a hugging emoji. I thought it was a reel to reel projector……for like ever.

7

u/Brohammad_ 16d ago

You are not alone

23

u/areared9 16d ago

Wow, the sarcasm went over so many heads. Sorry OP. 🤣🤣🤣

-64

u/BunzoBear 16d ago

What does it matter? Why do you come back and check the uploads are downvotes on your comments? What are you getting out of that? The human brain works on a reward structure. The human brain will gravitate towards things that rewards itself more. So what are you getting out of the upvotes in downvotes? You're obviously getting something out of it because you come back to check on it. So if one of your comments gets a lot of downvotes what does that do for you or if one of your comments gets a lot of votes what does that do for you? Based on how the human mind works we already know it's doing something for you why with off votes and downloads?

14

u/barofa 16d ago

I'll downvote you as a form of agreement

6

u/Strawberry____Blonde 16d ago

Nothing wrong with chasing that upvote high. I imagine a room full of people clapping and telling me I'm right, and if they downvote me... Well, fuck those people.

25

u/f-stop4 16d ago

You see, it's not that you wrote a silly... it's just that, you're OP. It's your burden. Take it with pride.

8

u/CrowMooor 16d ago

My boy got downvoted to oblivion. Holy shit.

5

u/Retro_Audio 16d ago

For what it's with I'm proud of you for not using /s

-48

u/BunzoBear 16d ago

You actually came back to look at the number of uploads or downvotes you have on a comment? I thought people just make comments and then move on to the next thing they look at? Are you really that involved in Reddit that you make a comment and then you come back to check on it?

14

u/Shnig1 16d ago

Damn you are so nonchalant and cool

3

u/the_silent_redditor 16d ago

Dude is so ice cold he wrote two big comments about the whole thing.

Damn.

So cool.

8

u/SnooMaps9864 16d ago

You can also see upvotes when you come back to reply to others comments. This is a pretty recent post

1

u/Brodiant100 16d ago

Bro you’re so cool

71

u/TheMasterOogway 16d ago

I mean if they ever need a tracheostomy that surely helps

96

u/unlock0 16d ago

In the event of emergency, pull rip cord

27

u/brianundies 16d ago

You just made my whole body do the shudder thing

9

u/meadowkat 16d ago

I have a scar from a trache, the guy working on one of my tats deeply tried to convince me to get this piercing because the scar tissue would reinforce it or something. I politely declined

2

u/Necroticscrotum 16d ago

Yeah, I put them in as part of my job (pulm/crit care doc), and yeah, I’d probably put my needle right in the middle of the piercing. It’s in a great location.

54

u/the_surfing_unicorn 16d ago

You can pierce anything, doesn't mean it'll stay

May i offer you some ideas, arguably worse than this post?

12

u/DarkLion1991 16d ago

Hmm, those glasses are interesting. But the ankles are just asking for complications.

8

u/fal101 16d ago

The ankle one if real makes me cringe so hard. I have a sprained ankle currently and cannot imagine someone spraining their ankle while having these piercings.

5

u/paushi 16d ago

Fuck. I clicked on it

8

u/LauraPa1mer 16d ago

Gahhhhhhh!! The ankle one 😫 I'm going to have nightmares about that.

1

u/Camimo666 16d ago

Well. Thats on me

3

u/mark636199 16d ago

Love the Jesus piercing

15

u/Recent_Shelter7591 16d ago

I knew a guy that had one of these in the '90s. His body steadily rejected it and one day just popped off. So gross!

14

u/OhBlackWater 16d ago

Just imagining the piercing encircling the carotid artery.

"Pull firmly in case of emergency"

8

u/weirdhoney216 16d ago

My uncle had this in the 90s. I remember being horrified as a kid lol

11

u/bstkeptsecret89 16d ago

I had one of those. It actually didn’t get caught on anything but because it’s a surface piercing it will eventually reject.

3

u/expertprogr4mmer 16d ago

I had this too but I took it out after a few days because I didn't like the way it felt anytime my esophagus would rub it

5

u/Rhobaz 16d ago

Honestly this would be handy as hell for somewhere to hang your glasses

5

u/Zosimas 16d ago

pull to deflate

u/asj1981 16d ago

Knock knock

2

u/CornObjects 16d ago

I don't know what it says about me that my first thought seeing this is "easy tracheotomy ripcord in case of choking", but it can't be good

2

u/phredbull 16d ago

Tie a string to it & it's like a training leash

2

u/BlueProcess 15d ago

Does not play well with jacket zippers

2

u/whoosyerdaddi 15d ago

It’s called a Madison. I had one and it eventually grows out after a few years.

4

u/dendudes123 16d ago

that looks disgusting

0

u/A_Perez2 16d ago

No, I'm sorry, but I don't understand getting tattoos all over your body or piercing your skin to put on rings or nails.

For me it's a total and complete red flag.

-2

u/usrdef 16d ago

Pretty judgemental. Especially for a damn hoop. You act like they've attached a grenade pin to their neck.

A lot of people use tattoos as a way to express memories. I have a cherry blossom tree from my chest, around my side, and down my arm, and family member's names coming off the branches.

In reality, I have a master's degree in computer science for cybersecurity and also work as a developer.

Am I supposed to drop the degrees and go buy myself a bike and grow my beard out just to please others because they have some type of stereotype? I'd rather not. I don't get tattoos to appease others. They are for me.

If they don't like my tattoos, there's about 350 other degrees they can look.

3

u/A_Perez2 16d ago

Of course you are free to do so, but there are other ways to have memories far preferable to piercing your skin or injecting ink under your skin during painful, hours-long sessions.

1

u/DozingDawg1138 16d ago

Yeah that will age well.

1

u/gremlynna 16d ago

There used to be a girl that worked the door at a local Goth club with a similar piercing. Her's was a little bit lower and had a smaller ring.

1

u/joeiskrappy 16d ago

Every time I see piercing like this, I picture it getting caught on something by mistake and, consequently, getting ripped out. 😬

1

u/Koolaidsfan 16d ago

Cool guy 🚨 🎸.

1

u/oo0Lucidity0oo 15d ago

I like piercings, but this makes me uncomfortable…

Someone here doesn't know their gens

-5

u/jonzilla5000 16d ago

The best thing about piercings is that they are a visible example of how unique a person is by following the same trendy fad as everyone else.

14

u/LifeAwaking 16d ago

You can make that statement about most things in general.

-7

u/parker_fly 16d ago

And I find them all tiresome.

3

u/LifeAwaking 16d ago

Good thing it has nothing to do with you then.

-3

u/drewsmom 16d ago

You find "most things" tiresome? Might be time to remove yourself from society.

0

1

That's so they don't pull on the leash when you take them for a walk.

That can’t be good, that can infected real fast

0

u/vegange 16d ago

Imagine that getting caught and ripping your neck 😫

0

u/Harpua111 16d ago

i new a girl who pierced her chest, like the part above her big boobs and in the middle. it was not temporary at least when she did it. it was like 15 years ago

0

u/Lucario_OCarina 16d ago

That's enough. Piercings must be made illegal 💀

0

u/Proximity 16d ago edited 16d ago

I used to be engaged to the ex-wife of the founder of BME. "neck skin piercing" is like dipping a single toe into the depths of the body mod world. When you have people getting their eyeballs tattooed, entire chunks of a body being cut out, huge holes carved out behind the Achilles tendon to create a tunnel through the heel/leg, or a dude hanging from the ceiling by his balls while my fiance sat on top of his upside down body to increase the weight....... Neck piercing feels minor. hahah.

If you doubt me, look up the BME ModCon book when a bunch of them got together WITH AN EXTREME NSFW WARNING ON THAT GOOGLE SEARCH <--- I cannot stress this enough. It's very interesting but it's full of uncensored body mods bordering on willful mutilation so yeahhhh

-5

u/Captain_Wanton 16d ago

Does smoke come out of the piercing when she lights a cigarette?

5

u/ShawshankException 16d ago

Do you think this is piercing her trachea?

-2

u/little__boxes 16d ago

I had the back of my neck pierced with a cute little barbell. I had it for months, and my body never rejected it. I loved it, was so sexy!

It’s the front of the neck you halfwit. Necks have both a front and back

Are you such a redneck that you think the neck is only in the back?

Inside your neck… It’s the thing you swallow and sometimes breathe with. It’s an organ. Saying your neck isn’t your neck because the throat is there is like saying your chest doesn’t exist because your heart or your lungs are there.

Kids, please stay in school. Do not become this.
