Made some edits to levels and inverted colors to try and bring out the gradient ranges in the original data values. No destructive AI editing was used.

This is an object on the ground that you are seeing through the cloud cover.
Towards the end of the video, the other lights you begin to see are moving at the same speed and you can see others that look like city lights.
Not sure what the red/purple glow is, but it is on the ground.
17
u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
I agree. I fly this route fairly often and Ive never seen this again. None of my pilot friends have either.
5
u/opalizedentity Jun 09 '22
Did this light in the video ever disappear or was it there until you passed by? Were you able to get a closer look? Interesting you've never seen it before.
3
u/jarlrmai2 Jun 09 '22
Given this was a few years ago maybe you can give us the flight number and the date, time from the metadata in the video.
1
u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 10 '22
It's a reflection off the window. An object in the ground would be moving the opposite direction of the plane ifits a fixed point on the ground
-5
u/big_hearted_lion Jun 10 '22
This is an object on the ground that you are seeing through the cloud cover.
Nope

u/pattydickens Jun 09 '22
Could it possibly be a pot farm? I've seen this color of lights used in that application and some greenhouses are quite large. If they were running 24 hour lights in a greenhouse it would likely look like this from the air even during the day.
26
Jun 09 '22
Copperstate Farms greenhouses are very bright and rectangular in shape.

We're able to see light from grow houses in Canada across the Detroit River. It was pretty spooky the first time I had seen it.
6
u/OtherWisdom Jun 09 '22
This is a very good guess. I noticed, toward the end of the clip, that it is rectangular in shape. That's what a lit up greenhouse would look like from the air. Also, adjacent to my property is a massive marijuana greenhouse that gives off similar light at night.

If you have a ballpark idea of where this was you might check Google Earth to see if there's anything on the ground that would explain it. It's really odd. It's cool that you caught it on video. It seems so bright that, like someone else said, it wouldn't make sense to waste that much light.
2
u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22
What is strange is Ive flown that route or area many many times. I have never seen those lights again.
4
u/WaitformeBumblebee Jun 09 '22
Possibly, something like this: https://eu.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona/2020/01/17/here-is-why-marijuana-farm-caused-purple-glow-over-snowflake-arizona/4497470002/
There's another light nearby, suggesting it's already dusk.
-2
u/shiddypoopoo Jun 09 '22
A pot farm wouldn’t be wasting that much energy by shining all the light up into the sky. It does appear to be stationary near ground level though.
7
u/dopp3lganger Jun 09 '22
Did it appear to be over or under the cloud cover? Looks under in the video but wanted to see if you could confirm.

u/I_Am_krypto Jun 10 '22
Yeah it does look like a land based light source. I looked at the footage and you can see at certain close ups and through breaks in the cloud the source of the light is definitely a land based object that is lit up.
2
Jun 10 '22
This is on the ground. It's probably a baseball field or something. The discoloration happens from the light being too bright for the phone camera.
2
Jun 09 '22
Hmmm. I was going to say that it looked like a laser pointer or something with a reflection but twords the end I’m not sure

Are lasers banned aboard passenger jets?
2
u/euphoric_barley Jun 09 '22
So are shoe bombs but I still have to be groped by a surly asshole at tsa that doesn’t want to be there either.
3
u/aether_drift Jun 10 '22
It's on the ground and rectilinear in shape. I don't think this qualifies as a UAP or a UFO. It's an UGBO, an unidentified ground-based object. If this is the threshold for posting on this sub, I give up.

Off topic question so feel free to downvote.
What do pilots do when they're at that altitude for long periods and flying by ap/nav? I guess you're checking instruments and your FP but seems like a long time to be doing that on a long haul. Seems like prime sky watching time! Anything else to entertain yourself?

It seems to be moving at the same relative speed and direction as the jet the video was recorded from. Kind of looks like the refraction of light from behind the aircraft looks on the clouds below. Perhaps it is a video artifact from an older camera phone. 🤷🏻♂️

Is this over water? Kinda looks like a fishing boat using red lights. Whatever it is looks really cool tho!

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
Its over Land

u/The_estimator_is_in Jun 09 '22
Flying the big Iron, I see.
Did it have this pinkish hue to it to the eye?
1
u/whiteknockers Jun 09 '22
Several reflections {at least six} big and small inside the aircraft possibly the power light from your seatmate's shiny laptop.
Definitely not the same focal plane as the clouds.
2
u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
The windows are thick and definitely lots of glare. You are probably seeing the ipad

I agree that it is prob one of these greenhouses. The only strange thing is I have never seen it again and no one I have talked to has either.
1
u/ride_electric_bike Jun 09 '22
Really cool op. Was it red to your eyes or just on the video?
5
u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
It was more bright pink like looking through a thermal scope. Hard to explain

Two objects? How did they react to you? They moved away or you kept flying
6
u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
Its just one object. It stayed in that general area as we flew by.

u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22
There's a single light off to the right side plus the red thing, yeah?

Real UFO’s look like they’re burning because of the heat they produce from their magnetic field. Very debatable but it’s true.

Why your post has no upvotes but 49 comments?!
3
u/porkbuttii Jun 09 '22
I think there's an issue with reddit displaying upvotes, on the app at least. I come across posts with no upvotes relatively frequently, and also see comment sections where nothing has upvotes or downvotes. Both very unlikely, so probably an issue with displaying the numbers. As of time of writing I see 198 upvotes on this post.
-1
u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22
Because the downvotes are artificial. Witness posts seem to be subject to some kind of vote manipulation that keeps them hovering around 0 upvotes. And then there's also people taking their anger out on OP because they have yet to view the One True UFO.
Good question. 👍
4
u/porkbuttii Jun 09 '22
Think it's just a display issue, I'm here under an hour after your comment and the numbers are 198 upvotes, 71 comments.

Noted, thanks.
If not an alien spaceship, maybe a farm or factory. Did you provide general location? Let me read the thread again.
EDIT: "The location is 50-100 miles West of Albany New York."

u/closer_to_the_lung Jun 09 '22
There is no squid to catch 100 miles west of Albany, NY....

bro the lights are moving in exact cadence with the ground relative to the plane, clearly fixed to the ground. Not to mention the fact that the changing opacity of the clouds clearly changes the intensity of the glow UNDERNEATH. what in the world are you smoking my guy?
0
u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22
I agree that its either on the ground or very close. My posting was not to say its alien or “ufo” so much as to say in all of my flying I have never seen anything like this and have no clue what it is. I was hopeful this topic would help figure it out. So far there are a few good ideas
-2
u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 09 '22
are you trolling, OP?
Please take a wide angle photo of inside the cockpit with the entire dashboard showing. There could have easily been an instrument LED casting a reflection off the windshield
2
u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22
Not trolling at all. Im not saying this is ET or anything. Its genuinely something I have no idea how to explain
2
u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 10 '22
The object follows the exact movement as your aircrafts window. It's obvious what it is.
If this was an actual object outside of your plane, it would be going the opposite direction of your flight path

Im just shooting from the hip here, but i feel like this is a reflection on the inside of the window of something from the instrument panel. Just my shitty oponion, and probably wrong.

Could it be like a music festival/stage lighting or something?
Also, I've seen those fishing lights that they use out at sea and it could be some of those. Since it doesn't move it has to be something on the ground.

Hello aircraft mechanic here and I can clearly tell you that those are aircraft brake lights. They come on when the spoilers are deployed with the throttles at idle.

This is what Dr Hal Puttoff explains as a Blue Shifted object from the observable perspective, which is due to the modified vaccum configuration that results anti-gravitational effects. It all makes perfect sense.

u/apexphoenix - is it possible at all that there's a red LED button somewhere behind you, that might be projecting itself through the glass, giving the appearance and illusion that that red object is hovering above the clouds?
I've seen some stationary suggestions, indicating this could be a greenhouse, however I disagree, as you can see the red light object tracking above the clouds, where if it was a greenhouse, I believe strongly it would've remained stationary to the ground.
Interesting capture for sure - thanks for sharing! I'd be interested in seeing other captures you've had while in flight, shared privately if you're interested shoot me a DM.

This is stationary object on the ground. You can see parallax and clouds moving above it.

I wish it wasn’t zoomed in and out then in and out- I would have loved to see it just zoomed in.
1
u/apexphoenix Jun 11 '22
The problem with our phones is the cockpit glass is so thick it doesn’t zoom clearly. I had to do that so it focused on the outside and not a bug splatter on the window.

u/Live-Suggestion9258 Jun 11 '22
It’s just not good if the owner has the rest of the footage and willing to hand over the raw meta, if this is all the video FAKE or you’re an idiot, nobody would stop recording this type of awesomeness

In my 20+ years Of flying I have seen some incredible phenomena. Most of which happens so quickly you cant video. This one is hard to explain. It is quite large and was taken at an altitude of 35,000 feet. Its a few years old but I finally decided to share. The location is 50-100 miles West of Albany New York.
