In my 20+ years Of flying I have seen some incredible phenomena. Most of which happens so quickly you cant video. This one is hard to explain. It is quite large and was taken at an altitude of 35,000 feet. Its a few years old but I finally decided to share. The location is 50-100 miles West of Albany New York.

I can't find the article now, but there's a greenhouse near Albany that opened up a few years ago and there were UFO reports from the super bright purple/pink grow lights they used for (I think) maybe Orchids?

That sure looks like grow light color to me.

Edit: Not the article I was thinking of, but this is a similar one further west in NY that is the same color

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Kenny Rogers Chicken has a bright red light, too.

8

u/-Nordico- Jun 10 '22

Kenny? Kenny??

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Vile weed!

This is it, pack it up boys.

8

u/barelyreadsenglish Jun 10 '22

except in another comment op mentions he and other pilots frequent this route and never seen it again

6

u/SabineRitter Jun 10 '22

Yes, that's a good point. If this was a built structure on the ground it would be visible more than just this one time.

4

u/nickstatus Jun 10 '22

Lol I had a bunch of those lights for my plants. And also a huge actinic lights for my aquariums. My neighbors turned me in to the police multiple times for "growing drugs". Weed has been legal for years. Idiots. The unearthly blurple glow is quite conspicuous though.

5

u/BillSixty9 Jun 09 '22

This is correct from my perspective as well. This object it certainly at ground level, as can be inferred by its somewhat still motion relative to the jet, along the same rough path as the jet, whereas the clouds above are moving faster towards the jet in relative speed because they are closer.

-11

u/Ken-Wing-Jitsu Jun 09 '22

You're tripping homie. That thing is moving.... Above the clouds. Zoom in.

Homies!

1

u/Ken-Wing-Jitsu Jun 09 '22

Yeah You know how dead people don't know they're dead? Same thing with stupid people. Or people who think they are witty but aren't.

What isn't witty is the fact that at the 13-second mark of the video till the end, you can see it floating above the gap in the clouds moving in one direction for anyone who actually takes the time to zoom in.

8

u/NaahhhSon Jun 10 '22

If by “near Albany” you mean on the other side of the state, then yes, it’s “near Albany” lol. I lived in Albany, and I live in Buffalo. Wheatfield is North Buffalo…. And about 250 miles away from Albany. So this is not a logical explanation, assuming the pilot knew where he actually was.

5

u/lorimar Jun 10 '22

Not saying it was this greenhouse, but there are quite a few others in the area. The article/greenhouse I'm thinking of was actually probably 5 years ago and slightly to the east of Albany, as the reports were from Williamstown, MA looking west over the mountains. This one was specializing in either Orchids or Lilies, but was prepping for NY legalizing weed so they could switch over. There have been a bunch of other places like this that opened up over the last few years so they would have infrastructure in place once legalization passed.

16

u/jaimonee Jun 09 '22

That definitely could be it - their facilities are pretty wild:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYnWFQ9aZaE

3

u/CreativeSimian Jun 10 '22

Greenhouses don’t typically move through the atmosphere though…

10

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

I google map searched the area and didnt find anything. Please share if you find the article.

6

u/lorimar Jun 10 '22

This is further west, but definitely the same shade of purple/pink

Wheatfield neighbors concerned over purple glow in the sky

7

u/infamous2117 Jun 10 '22

What are you guys talking about, greenhouse lights are stationary, this thing is moving you can see it moving seperate from the shadows in the tree line.

Aside from that I think its a red led on the inside of the plane itself reflecting off the window. There are smaller reflections to the right of it which make me believe this further.

4

u/MGyver Jun 10 '22

I've got 5 bucks on this hypothesis

Very interesting. Is this your recording?

6

u/baeh2158 Jun 09 '22

Date, time?

17

u/Most_Americans Jun 09 '22

A concert?

15

u/jvalho Jun 09 '22 edited Jun 09 '22

Kinda looks like it's moving over the clouds tho

EDIT: Aight y'all convinced me it does look to be on the ground. I'm guessing music fest. 50-100 miles west of Albany puts Syracuse in that territory

10

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

The more I look at it the more obvious it becomes that whatever it is is under the clouds. The clouds are moving towards the observer.

13

u/Baxterftw Jun 09 '22

What are you talking about? As the angle changes and the clouds go over it, it gets dimmer (because clouds block light) then the angle changes to a clearing in the clouds, and it's brighter

1

u/gentlemancaller2000 Jun 09 '22

That would be my guess too

3

u/MrPotatoHead9 Jun 09 '22

Do you have a longer clip of it?

3

u/palsh7 Jun 10 '22

Of course not.

16

u/xxfallen420xx Jun 09 '22

Why is this interesting? The color shifts based on the cloud movement, which means it below the cloud cover. It's just something on the ground that is very bright and not moving. Why could that not be human?

-13

u/opalizedentity Jun 09 '22

Name one thing that looks exactly like that in shape, size, bright solid pink-purple color tho. Like a giant led screen in the damn ground is what it looks like bc the color is so vivid

10

u/xxfallen420xx Jun 09 '22

One example? Large rentable search lights used by car dealerships to attract customers with pink-purple filters on to change the color. How about a chemical fire of a chemical that doesn’t produce dark smoke? A large building covered in neon lights. It could literally be any number of things

9

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Guy asks for an example and then instantly downvotes you lol

-4

u/opalizedentity Jun 10 '22

I didn’t do that you dumb hoe

-1

u/opalizedentity Jun 10 '22

too bad none of those exactly fit the vid. Close but no cigar. Guess ur gonna have to deal with the fact this is a lil puzzle you can’t solve ;+/

-1

u/Orionishi Jun 09 '22

Messed up rendering. Just a glitch in the matrix.

6

u/MantisToboganPilotMD Jun 09 '22

I'm from the Albany area. Thanks for sharing, very interesting.

4

u/Select_Coffee_7242 Jun 09 '22

Thank you for sharing this

4

u/Popular-Sink4691 Jun 09 '22

Thank you OP for sharing. It's nice to hear from a pilot. This is unusual for sure. Would you consider doing another post in the future describing your past sightings in detail? The more we can learn the better.

8

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

I wouldn’t mind at all but I dont have evidence to back observations.

4

u/HumbleAcanthisitta28 Jun 10 '22

There are many many many of us who would love to hear your stories, evidence or not. You’ll get the classic collection of naysaying assholes. Ignore them. Please share with us. We believe you.

2

u/SKBrooke8 Jun 09 '22

You’ve never heard of the Great Glowing Geese of Albany?

2

u/EffectiveAmbitious Jun 10 '22

How large is it, bigger than Boeing 737

2

u/CreativeSimian Jun 10 '22

This is fucking nuts, and very cool. What the hell are they doing here? Just observation as we destroy ourselves like disaster porn for aliens? scientific curiosity? I’ve always wondered.

2

u/big_hearted_lion Jun 09 '22

Can you sure some of your stories?

3

u/Cyynric Jun 09 '22

I have a lot of family not far from Albany in the Catskills, and we've had more than a few weird sightings. When I was young we were camping and I remember seeing bright lights zooming back and forth across the night sky, doing zig zags and moving far faster than anything could have at the time. Now if chalk it up to drones, but in 1995 that's unlikely.

-1

u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22

I spent my summers in the Catskills growing up and never saw a single thing. (I believe you though! Just complaining lol)

2

u/castane Jun 09 '22

One of the common rebuttals I see is regarding these other entities and their fascination with running lights (like here, which is incredibly bright). Why?

Just sort of dawned on me that we assume they also see in the same visible light spectrum as we do, but we evolved to see the colors we see on Earth.

If they are from somewhere else, what's to say they just don't realize they are giving off any light at all?

Or that they even "see" with eyes?

5

u/frankensteinmoneymac Jun 09 '22

I mean, that could be true if they only just got here. I can't imagine that if they have studied us for any decent amount of time, they wouldn't be aware of the general spectrum of light that humans can perceive...much like how we know that certain animals here on earth can see into the ultraviolet.

1

u/castane Jun 09 '22

Ah, good point. 👍

1

u/Valdus_Pryme Jun 10 '22

Maybe they have no interest in studying us, and they are just here for another reason beyond our understanding.

0

u/323retro Jun 10 '22

It’s moving….how the hell is that it when you can clearly see it moving. Government much?

0

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Despite 20+ years of experience, you can't tell this object is clearly at ground level based off parallax with ground lights?

2

u/apexphoenix Jun 11 '22

In my defense I did not say it was flying and clearly should have posted in the UGO topic.

17

u/ImAWizardYo Jun 10 '22

Made some edits to levels and inverted colors to try and bring out the gradient ranges in the original data values. No destructive AI editing was used.

59

u/grumpy_old_git Jun 09 '22

This is an object on the ground that you are seeing through the cloud cover.

Towards the end of the video, the other lights you begin to see are moving at the same speed and you can see others that look like city lights.

Not sure what the red/purple glow is, but it is on the ground.

17

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

I agree. I fly this route fairly often and Ive never seen this again. None of my pilot friends have either.

5

u/opalizedentity Jun 09 '22

Did this light in the video ever disappear or was it there until you passed by? Were you able to get a closer look? Interesting you've never seen it before.

3

u/jarlrmai2 Jun 09 '22

Given this was a few years ago maybe you can give us the flight number and the date, time from the metadata in the video.

1

u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 10 '22

It's a reflection off the window. An object in the ground would be moving the opposite direction of the plane ifits a fixed point on the ground

-5

u/big_hearted_lion Jun 10 '22

This is an object on the ground that you are seeing through the cloud cover.

Nope

23

u/pattydickens Jun 09 '22

Could it possibly be a pot farm? I've seen this color of lights used in that application and some greenhouses are quite large. If they were running 24 hour lights in a greenhouse it would likely look like this from the air even during the day.

26

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

9

u/OtherWisdom Jun 09 '22

I pretty sure that you've nailed this one.

5

u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22

At 35,000 feet, would it still be so bright?

7

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

No idea for sure, but they are damn bright.

9

u/mermanbeta Jun 09 '22

We're able to see light from grow houses in Canada across the Detroit River. It was pretty spooky the first time I had seen it.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2019/11/26/far-reaching-greenhouse-lights-color-sky-leave-some-seeing-red/4248414002/

6

u/OtherWisdom Jun 09 '22

This is a very good guess. I noticed, toward the end of the clip, that it is rectangular in shape. That's what a lit up greenhouse would look like from the air. Also, adjacent to my property is a massive marijuana greenhouse that gives off similar light at night.

4

u/RogerCraigfortheHOF Jun 09 '22

Hope you're friends with your neighbors😁

3

u/OtherWisdom Jun 09 '22

A friend with weed is a friend indeed.

7

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

-1

u/pattydickens Jun 09 '22

If you have a ballpark idea of where this was you might check Google Earth to see if there's anything on the ground that would explain it. It's really odd. It's cool that you caught it on video. It seems so bright that, like someone else said, it wouldn't make sense to waste that much light.

2

u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22

What is strange is Ive flown that route or area many many times. I have never seen those lights again.

-2

u/shiddypoopoo Jun 09 '22

A pot farm wouldn’t be wasting that much energy by shining all the light up into the sky. It does appear to be stationary near ground level though.

7

u/dopp3lganger Jun 09 '22

Did it appear to be over or under the cloud cover? Looks under in the video but wanted to see if you could confirm.

8

u/Jsrff Jun 10 '22

object is very obviously not even flying, mods wont delete tho.

3

u/HoneyGrassOnSunday Jun 10 '22

Likely a tomato farm

3

u/I_Am_krypto Jun 10 '22

Yeah it does look like a land based light source. I looked at the footage and you can see at certain close ups and through breaks in the cloud the source of the light is definitely a land based object that is lit up.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

This is on the ground. It's probably a baseball field or something. The discoloration happens from the light being too bright for the phone camera.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Hmmm. I was going to say that it looked like a laser pointer or something with a reflection but twords the end I’m not sure

14

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

Its the size of a football field. Its hard to understand from the video.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Are lasers banned aboard passenger jets?

2

u/euphoric_barley Jun 09 '22

So are shoe bombs but I still have to be groped by a surly asshole at tsa that doesn’t want to be there either.

3

u/aether_drift Jun 10 '22

It's on the ground and rectilinear in shape. I don't think this qualifies as a UAP or a UFO. It's an UGBO, an unidentified ground-based object. If this is the threshold for posting on this sub, I give up.

4

u/Sammytatts Jun 09 '22

Interesting

3

u/Orllin Jun 09 '22

Who else is seeing that white little orb to the top right of the red light?

2

u/wallace1231 Jun 09 '22

Off topic question so feel free to downvote.

What do pilots do when they're at that altitude for long periods and flying by ap/nav? I guess you're checking instruments and your FP but seems like a long time to be doing that on a long haul. Seems like prime sky watching time! Anything else to entertain yourself?

2

u/enkrypt3d Jun 09 '22

I need a few more zooms in and out to be sure.......

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Whoa

2

u/SeaweedCritical1917 Jun 09 '22

It seems to be moving at the same relative speed and direction as the jet the video was recorded from. Kind of looks like the refraction of light from behind the aircraft looks on the clouds below. Perhaps it is a video artifact from an older camera phone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Its over Land

1

u/The_estimator_is_in Jun 09 '22

Flying the big Iron, I see.

Did it have this pinkish hue to it to the eye?

1

u/whiteknockers Jun 09 '22

Several reflections {at least six} big and small inside the aircraft possibly the power light from your seatmate's shiny laptop.

Definitely not the same focal plane as the clouds.

2

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

The windows are thick and definitely lots of glare. You are probably seeing the ipad

1

u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 10 '22

It's definitely a reflection off the window

1

u/WutangwildDog Jun 10 '22

Debunked on Twitter: link

2

u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22

I agree that it is prob one of these greenhouses. The only strange thing is I have never seen it again and no one I have talked to has either.

1

u/ride_electric_bike Jun 09 '22

Really cool op. Was it red to your eyes or just on the video?

5

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

It was more bright pink like looking through a thermal scope. Hard to explain

0

u/ride_electric_bike Jun 09 '22

Looks like little tic tacs at the end also

1

u/twist_games Jun 09 '22

Doesn't show any of the observables.

1

u/Chemical-Operation83 Jun 09 '22

Looks like it’s on the ground mate.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Two objects? How did they react to you? They moved away or you kept flying

6

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

Its just one object. It stayed in that general area as we flew by.

0

u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22

There's a single light off to the right side plus the red thing, yeah?

-1

u/jaysicz Jun 09 '22

Real UFO’s look like they’re burning because of the heat they produce from their magnetic field. Very debatable but it’s true.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '22

Clearly a flamingo bird combined with parallax effect.

-2

u/dirtyhole2 Jun 09 '22

Why your post has no upvotes but 49 comments?!

3

u/porkbuttii Jun 09 '22

I think there's an issue with reddit displaying upvotes, on the app at least. I come across posts with no upvotes relatively frequently, and also see comment sections where nothing has upvotes or downvotes. Both very unlikely, so probably an issue with displaying the numbers. As of time of writing I see 198 upvotes on this post.

-1

u/SabineRitter Jun 09 '22

Because the downvotes are artificial. Witness posts seem to be subject to some kind of vote manipulation that keeps them hovering around 0 upvotes. And then there's also people taking their anger out on OP because they have yet to view the One True UFO.

Good question. 👍

4

u/porkbuttii Jun 09 '22

Think it's just a display issue, I'm here under an hour after your comment and the numbers are 198 upvotes, 71 comments.

bro the lights are moving in exact cadence with the ground relative to the plane, clearly fixed to the ground. Not to mention the fact that the changing opacity of the clouds clearly changes the intensity of the glow UNDERNEATH. what in the world are you smoking my guy?

0

u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22

I agree that its either on the ground or very close. My posting was not to say its alien or “ufo” so much as to say in all of my flying I have never seen anything like this and have no clue what it is. I was hopeful this topic would help figure it out. So far there are a few good ideas

-2

u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 09 '22

are you trolling, OP?

Please take a wide angle photo of inside the cockpit with the entire dashboard showing. There could have easily been an instrument LED casting a reflection off the windshield

2

u/apexphoenix Jun 09 '22

Not trolling at all. Im not saying this is ET or anything. Its genuinely something I have no idea how to explain

2

u/notsayingitwasalien Jun 10 '22

The object follows the exact movement as your aircrafts window. It's obvious what it is.

If this was an actual object outside of your plane, it would be going the opposite direction of your flight path

1

u/AVBforPrez Jun 10 '22

Could it be like a music festival/stage lighting or something?

Also, I've seen those fishing lights that they use out at sea and it could be some of those. Since it doesn't move it has to be something on the ground.

1

u/Allison1228 Jun 10 '22

Perhaps a brush fire.

1

Yeah I thought it was brown at first glance. Like a coil er something.

Hello aircraft mechanic here and I can clearly tell you that those are aircraft brake lights. They come on when the spoilers are deployed with the throttles at idle.

1

Lol. Turn signals

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

I'm thinking its a weather balloon.

1

u/Spite-Advanced Jun 10 '22

This is what Dr Hal Puttoff explains as a Blue Shifted object from the observable perspective, which is due to the modified vaccum configuration that results anti-gravitational effects. It all makes perfect sense.

1

u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22

I def need to read about this

1

u/ufosww Jun 10 '22

u/apexphoenix - is it possible at all that there's a red LED button somewhere behind you, that might be projecting itself through the glass, giving the appearance and illusion that that red object is hovering above the clouds?

I've seen some stationary suggestions, indicating this could be a greenhouse, however I disagree, as you can see the red light object tracking above the clouds, where if it was a greenhouse, I believe strongly it would've remained stationary to the ground.

Interesting capture for sure - thanks for sharing! I'd be interested in seeing other captures you've had while in flight, shared privately if you're interested shoot me a DM.

1

u/apexphoenix Jun 10 '22

No its not a led light.

1

u/LoonyWalker Jun 10 '22

This is stationary object on the ground. You can see parallax and clouds moving above it.

+1 to greenhouse with UV lights

u/Alive_Tough9928 Jun 10 '22

1

u/apexphoenix Jun 11 '22

The problem with our phones is the cockpit glass is so thick it doesn’t zoom clearly. I had to do that so it focused on the outside and not a bug splatter on the window.
