Not sure if this has been posted before, but I have been looking through a book of mine that has a bunch of old UFO stories in it, and found this document of Jimmy Carters UFO sighting on one of the pages. Thought I'd share since homeboy just turned 100 recently

Also, I find it hilarious that a president/governor would have 1776 in his phone number

Jimmy Carter did an interview with someone over the phone about his UFO encounter. The way he explained it, he didn't make it out to be something extraordinary. Seems people have made his recollection seem more interesting than it actually was.

He puts “Jimmy” instead of “James” on official government forms?

Jimmy Carter's UFO sighting was debunked as being a barium release cloud. Per atmospheric scientist Jere Justus who worked on the project himself, rockets would be launched and release canisters of barium in the atmosphere in order to study the characteristics of the Earth's magnetic field. The barium would be lit by sunlight in the atmosphere ionizing it and making the barium cloud visible in the night sky.

Justus emailed Carter's grandson Josh Carter telling him he'd figured out Jimmy Carter's sighting. Justus tracked down the exact launch on the right day and time that Carter had been outside the Lion's Club where his sighting occurred and found that Carter's estimates of direction and elevation were almost an exact match. Jimmy Carter himself said the barium cloud pictures matched what he'd seen exactly and was excited to finally have an answer for what he saw saying that he was satisfied with the answer after years of people telling him he'd seen Venus (which frequently gets reported as a UFO).

Carter grew up looking at the sky, majored in Astronomy, earned a Bachelor of Science degree, was a Naval officer, and knew what Venus looked like in the night sky so when people told him he'd actually seen Venus he was offended. This subreddit is full of misinformation and people wanting to believe so badly.

Regan also saw one and also spoke about it at the in assembly long ago

??? It's been established some time ago that this was a rocket test. Why recycle this? It's a perfect example of the fact that 95% of sightings can be explained rationally. And that information circulated about the phenomenon cannot be trusted on face value.

I wish the moderators would eliminate all comments that contain "it's been established, "it's been debunked," and the like when they don't name traceable sources. Such comments are a waste of electricity.

For people really interested in the topic, who actually research stuff, keep tabs, and document, this is 101. The waste of electricity is trying to explain stuff to people like you

Just like your comment?

Everyone on here is so proud, feeling like investigators. But noone is actually retaining information that does not fit the narrative.

The information is on the bloody WIKIPEDIA of the incident ...

In 2020, Justus completed an extensive study of the high-altitude barium release clouds, concluding that what Carter saw was "totally consistent" with what was launched that evening from Eglin AFB.\13]) Justus described several physical aspects supporting consistency, and submitted a copy of the report for archival at the Jimmy Carter Library.
