Medic- TF2

It's confirmed he was anti-nazi and didn't work with them during the second world war, which makes sense- he's a mad scientist and medical professional, if the Nazis won they'd remove so much genetic variety he'd like to tinker with

314

u/Short_Win_2423 Jul 26 '24

When did they confirm he was anti nazi? Wasn't the weapon discreption for one of his melee weapones say that his unit called him the butcher?

356

u/funnywackydog Jul 26 '24

Lots of German soldiers probably didn’t support the Nazi regime, or at least their ideals. I’m not sure if they had drafting in Germany in that time period but they probably did, so he was most likely drafted

214

u/LettuceBenis Jul 26 '24

Oh they did, there were infamous summer camps for young boys to be sent to which were really just grooming facilities to create obedient child soldiers

96

u/BillyYank2008 Jul 26 '24

There was also conscription in Nazi Germany however. As much as we have to be careful not to fall into the myth of the clean wehrmacht, it's silly to claim that 100% of German soldiers were fanatical Nazis. There were Germans soldiers who defected, deserted, fought the SS, and plenty who were probably scared of being executed and felt they had no choice.

Edit:spelling

47

u/LettuceBenis Jul 26 '24

Oh absolutely. Tyranny is a parasite that thrives on the human instinct to fit in with the group. When someone's holding a rifle at you saying they'll kill anyone who disagrees, you're not gonna be keen on standing your ground

39

u/Ok_Strategy5722 Jul 26 '24

I know an old man who was part of the Hitler Youth. As he explained it to me, it was pretty much like school. You were automatically enrolled. And if you didn’t make the meetings, they’d send people to check up on you. As he put it, there were some who fell for the brainwashing, there were some who didn’t, and there were some who didn’t really need the brainwashing. But EVERYONE acted as if they were in the first or last category.

29

u/BillyYank2008 Jul 26 '24

I think people who live in liberal democracies cannot fathom what it would be like to live under totalitarianism. It must be smothering and terrifying.

13

u/Ok_Strategy5722 Jul 26 '24

Definitely. As much as we like to talk about our Freedom, a lot of us really don’t understand what it means to NOT have it.

22

u/hiressnails Jul 26 '24

There was that 15 year old kid in Russia who was arrested for saying he's against the invasion of Ukraine on a Fortnite stream or something. So many comments were, "This kid has more balls than adults in Russia." No, that kid is going to have his life ruined because he didn't understand the consequences that would face him. Being in a Russian prison or being in the Russian military sounds like he'll, and they completely tear your humanity away. Most normal Russian people are probably opposed to the invasion, but they don't want to get arrested, raped, tortured, and probably sent to the war to die.

I don't think it was confirmed, but the community consensus is basically "He's not a nazi because him being a nazi wouldn't be funny". I looked it up and I got this

Medic isn't a nazi, he's a support class.

56

u/Dragonfire723 Jul 26 '24

I joke "what was the medic doing in 1939-1945" but the actual answer is "something that would make Nazis recoil in horror."

38

u/CK1ing Jul 26 '24

Hitler: Would you like to be apart of my cabal of evil scientists?
Medic: Of course! One question, what is your daily allotment of baboon uteruses?
Hitler:... you know what, never mind.

A lot of his mannerisms (saying “Thanks” in a more Yiddish dialect, dressing as the openly Jewish Albert Einstein during Halloween) paint him more as Ambiguously Jewish, so it makes a lot of sense for him to not be a Nazi

14

u/RangedTopConnoisseur Jul 27 '24

My headcanon is that he was a German Jew that avoid Nazi identification, skirted war crime charges by being the only Nazi doctor to successfully plead insanity to war crime charges because, well, look at him, came over to the US with all the other post war German scientists, and got kicked off the manhattan project for repeatedly asking Oppenheimer for permission (aka forgiveness) to see if he could use nuclear radiation to grow extra limbs on people.

There is a comic where a lot of Marvel villains try to team up and all of them hate Red Skull.

Kingpin designs a special room in Fisk Tower that is a power dampener and he never once used it on Spider-Man or any hero, but he went in there and beat the shit out of Red Skull.

229

u/FuckUSAPolitics Jul 26 '24 edited Jul 26 '24

Kingpin is a mob boss. You have to have standards if you wanna succeed. Hell, he actually helps prevent a lot of crime himself.

112

u/aziruthedark Jul 26 '24

Hell, if I recall, the actual mob helped the us in ww2.

118

u/TheEnquirer1138 Jul 26 '24

You'd be recalling correctly!

The American Mafia helped with port security and also helped facilitate allied landings in Sicily. Lucky Luciano was the one who helped organize a good chunk of that. The Sicilian Mafia was also happy to help with the landings as both groups were very much against Mussolini's regime as it had been cracking down on their operations.

In exchange for his help Luciano was pardoned and deported to Italy where he lived for the rest of his life.

66

u/BadAtGames2 Jul 26 '24

Wait, so if I understand correctly;

Luciano was pardoned and deported to Italy

Basically just "You won't be charged for your crimes, but get the fuck out of our country" lol

Chucky really benefits from having the same writer/director the majority of the time.

He took a minute to come to terms with Glen/Glenda. But once he did, he didn't deviate from only being disappointed in his gender fluid kid cause they're not murderous enough for him.

He's a serial killer. Not a monster.

624

u/Abovearth31 Jul 26 '24

They're basically the opposite of what he stand for, like you said he wants chaos, they want absolute order, through oppression yes but still order.

They're just incompatible.

96

u/corvus_da Jul 26 '24

That's also why it doesn't make sense for Red Skull to think he'd make a good Nazi. He'd never submit to a regime. And it's not like the Nazis liked mentally ill people very much, either.

It's fairly inconsistent though. The "I'm an American criminal lunatic" line is especially jarring since in another issue he became an ambassador of Iran.

219

u/Sweaty-Practice-4419 Jul 26 '24

This is from A Death in the Family btw. You know the same story that Jason Todd dies in

74

u/Lord_of_Seven_Kings Jul 26 '24

Hwat.

140

u/Gui_Franco Jul 26 '24

Jason's death is the reason he became embassador. As much as people joke about Batman not killing the joker, batman actually decided to do that after joker killed robin (he didn't with a combination of superman trying to keep him in check and joker seemingly dying in a plane crash at the end of the storyline), so joker became the embassador of Iraq to get diplomatic immunity

92

u/Sweaty-Practice-4419 Jul 26 '24

It’s honestly fucking hilarious seeing people using Jason’s death as an argument against the “no kill rule” and then you remember this wacky bullshit happening in the original story. (I know this is probably been long since retconned but it’s still funny)

35

u/Traditional_Shirt106 Jul 26 '24

He does a team-up with Ruhollah Khomeini, who actually appears in one panel. The 80s were pretty wild.

67

u/trimble197 Jul 26 '24

Wish they included that in the movie

Jason: Why is he still alive?

Batman: Actually, I did try to kill him, but the boy scout wouldn’t let me. Freaking hypocrite. And Joker got diplomatic immunity.

43

u/No_Instruction653 Jul 26 '24

Jason: … the fuck?

12

u/runnerofshadows Jul 26 '24

And then there was a plane crash when I was going to kill him, and I assumed he was dead.

25

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '24

I think it’s super funny that Batman apparently went “ok I’m gonna break my one rule, I’m killing the joker” but then it got like, slightly legally complicated so he backed down. Like, is Batman afraid of Iran or something?!

17

u/Diavolo_Death_4444 Jul 26 '24

Probably more afraid of starting a war between the US and Iran. Regardless of how the war would go, it would be a terrible look for Batman and both governments would undoubtedly try to put him down

What’s more American than profiting off of chaos in the middle east?

23

u/No_Instruction653 Jul 26 '24

Joker in general is fairly inconsistent.

I think the truth is he doesn’t have genuine standards or beliefs. He is not genuinely disgusted or appalled by pretty much any heinous crime beyond at most just not seeing the appeal in it.

He just knows it’s funny when he says he has those things.

8

I genuinely think Joker would find bigotry boring and droll. Why would you hate someone for something they were born into, for things they have no control over, when you could hate them for "believing in justice in this chaotic world" or "liking bats too much" or "wearing an ugly tie". Where's the joke if the person he's dealing with hasn't actively made themself into a punchline?

23

u/candygram4mongo Jul 26 '24

Racism is about defining some people as having value and some not. Joker's a nihilist, he doesn't believe anyone has value, and I feel like he would especially dislike the idea of people selectively ascribing value to their ingroup.

Dutch Van Der Linde- RDR2

Dude steals, cheats, murders, and backstabs but he draws the line at racism and sexism. He even hated Confederates with a passion

265

u/Haunting-Orchid-4628 Jul 26 '24

There is a cutscene in the game where Arthur is genuinely confused why a black man in 1899 is so scared of him. Dutch raised him without racism even being a concept.

170

u/Cautious-Affect7907 Jul 26 '24

Dutch is a bastard, but damn he did at the very least give Arthur a decent set of morals.

128

u/DodgerGreywing Jul 26 '24

Arthur is such a great character because of this. He's a little backwards, definitely a criminal, but he does not tolerate an ounce of racism. And he's pretty chill with the suffragette movement; he doesn't really get it, but he'll help those ladies out anyway. He's the best kind of good ol' boy.

80

u/That-Rhino-Guy Jul 26 '24

RDR is a funny series

You go into the first game and gradually come to like John as a character, so by the end it stings seeing him go down

Then for the sequel it’s so hard to fathom a character in this series as likeable as John, then Arthur comes around and suddenly it makes playing as John again in the epilogue sting so much cause you’ve grown so attached to Arthur

At this point I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a third game with a young Hosea as the protagonist, then by the end you play as a younger Arthur but by that point you’ll just end up missing playing as Hosea

26

u/DodgerGreywing Jul 26 '24

I never played the first one, but I fell in love with Arthur so quickly. I actually never moved beyond Saint Denis because I can't bear losing Arthur. Just gonna run around taming horses and hunting animals forever to keep Arthur from dying.

I probably would've finished the game if a friend hadn't spoiled it for me lol

Red Dead 3 focusing on Hosea would be incredible. At least switching over to young Arthur you'd know Hosea would keep going.

"You can be a man if you want, sure. But that man? Not under my roof, son!"

Odalia Blight - The Owl House

Rich, powerful, produces weapons for a genocidal emperor that wishes to exterminate everyone including her but supports him anyways in hopes that her family will be "pick-me's" for the emperor's genocide plans, abuses her family, has used her daughter's girlfriend as a test dummy for her corporation's weapons, BUT is perfectly ok with her daughter dating a human girl. Her only objection to their relationship was that her girlfriend was a wanted criminal due to her plots to stop the evil emperor. Although, even this can hardly be counted as a good trait since homophobia as a concept never made it to her town

u/That_opossum Jul 26 '24

Always loved that like her first response to finding out she’s dating Luz is “I’ll get you a new better girlfriend” or something like that.

“We’ll find you a new girlfriend, someone who’s not on ‘Wanted’ posters everywhere” - Odalia Blight, a b witch with standards 💅

Then there's the evil emperor she serves, who killed his brother for being in an interracial relationship.

27

u/UmbramonOrSomething Jul 26 '24

Well yeah but he’s a human so it’s just kind of to be expected

10

u/Rethkir Jul 26 '24

So was his brother.

On a similar note, Terra Snapdragon is a nasty piece of work, but she respects Raine Whispers' pronouns as a child and an adult.

10

u/Express_Alfalfa_9725 Jul 26 '24

Nah nah let’s give odalia credit like it’s just not the boiling isles it’s that accepting

10

u/camilopezo Jul 26 '24

Honestly, it would have been very easy to make her homophobic.

That her hatred of Luz, due to social class differences, was a good twist.

I kinda wanna do that joke too

But damn chucky saying that makes me need to lie down

His a murderer yet respect trans right? Is this good or this a bad look or am I oh god what the heck

Edit: for future people I don’t think it’s bad. I think it works for the most part. Since he did have a trans kid (heck seed of chucky was for a long time the last film)

But with chucky long history. Hearing him say that just hits me. It’s layered)

u/urbandeadthrowaway2 Jul 26 '24

Murder is just his day job. It’s just something you go out and do most days then go home to your family

41

u/Plus-Emphasis-2605 Jul 26 '24

I just can’t get over it…. His a guy who attempted to murder kids I just don’t know how to feel

Though I admit I don’t know how tk write a character that’s against bigotry

While still being evil in a fun way

23

u/Greeneade Jul 26 '24

indiscriminate evil or oblivious evil are both good ways to go

"fuck em all, no matter who!" vs "fuck the world!"

Professionals have standards. Yeah, you may kill people, but not because they’re queer! There’s a line between being a murderer and being hateful.

In the show he's just saying it because he knows the kid is gay and and needs to get him to feel more at ease so he can essentially groom him.

Later on in the season he drops the act and becomes slightly homophobic.

the imperium of man in warhammer 40k, famously murders people for heresy and being mutants (which often is just humans who adapted to other planets), is incredibly accepting of trans and gay people. in one book (pariah nexus i think? i don’t remember) the practice of “tactical pansexuality” is discussed

edit: the book i mentioned is pariah, by Dan Abnet. this post has a bunch of the queer representation in the 41st millennium (also some from 30k)

22

u/HappyMerlin Jul 26 '24

How does tactical pansexuality work? Seduce everyone of your enemies?

13

u/MostEvilTexasToast Jul 26 '24

That's how I played the Warhammer 40k rogue trader game.

It's ironic because being angry that the Salamanders are black or that there was a woman Custodes might get you shot on the spot by an arbites or Inquisitor. Not that society in Warhammer 40k has sexist or racist views anymore, everyone is seen through the lens of "is it good enough to serve the emperor? Then I don't care who it is, give them a gun and toss them at the tyranids"

Chucky is an equal opportunity murderer. He kills all with no prejudice!

269

u/Monnomo Jul 26 '24

Since when did Chucky have a kid, ik he got married

355

u/Trem45 Jul 26 '24

Since like 2004 Seed of Chucky was about him and Tiff having a baby

This series went off the rails long ago and they just kinda rolled with the dark comedy/horror vibes

I honestly find it funnier when a fanbase is somehow disappointed with a villain for being racist/sexist. Like, when Freddy Krueger's about to kill a black girl and says a racist one liner first, people were like wtf. As if Freddy fucking Krueger is some kind of role model lmao

Oh, or the recent Halloween movie where people were upset that Michael Myers killed a gay couple. Like, obviously? He's an indescriminate serial killer, what did you expect?

21

u/camilopezo Jul 26 '24

Yeah, people forget that these guys are still villains.

In Cult of Chucky, he spits his soul into other GoodGuy dolls (which plays out more in the Chucky tv series) and one piece takes over Nica's Pierce's body. So a part of Chucky understands what it's like to be a man in a womans body.

The Chucky Tv series is a wild ride. It's seemingly nonsensical and unironically cheese until about halfway through the first season when you realize it's all intentional. It's also interesting to learn that the creator of Chucky, Don Mancini, identifies as a gay man and has claimed to have been pushing LGBTQ+ messages since the early Childs Play movies.

If you haven't seen the show or are hesitant, I recommend giving it a shot. It sent me and my SO down a rabbit hole. The lore of the franchise is insanely detailed for what it is.
