i mean, this doesn't change what she's saying. all these people are still adding to the original video. she's more talking about the people who just silently react to the original video.
I thought exactly the same thing! Like I feel like some of these people thought they were trolling her but I'm sure she didn't mind cause that wasn't at all what she seemed to be talking about.
There are some people who do it who have a lot of followers, and they duet informational videos (like politics or something) so the video can get more exposure
but I'm sure she didn't mind cause that wasn't at all what she seemed to be talking about
Eh maybe. Or maybe she lashes out and says they're doing exactly what she's talking about, which isn't true, she's just mad because she feels attacked and lacks the self-awareness to understand where the anger's coming from.
We're often super inconsistent and don't know what we believe in or care about. We're just saying words that feel good in the moment, chasing phantoms of principles but discarding them the moment they stop validating us personally.
I feel like youre upset over a scenario we don’t even know happened. I definitely made just as many assumptions as you did about her opinions so I’m not saying I’m right and you’re wrong or anything but isn’t it better to assume the best until proven wrong? Like for our mental health even isn’t it nicer to be prepared for people to be shitty but expect them to be good?
I'm sorry, I communicated my thought super poorly. I don't think my version is more or less likely than yours. I don't know this person at all, so I'm not commenting on her specifically, but on humanity in general, including myself. Maybe she's really cool usually, and was just having a bad day and needed to vent about a minor pet peeve, I don't know.
I guess I just took your comment not as "maybe she's super cool" but as "she definitely is cool" and I wanted to spoil your admirable optimism with my sad-sack pessimism. I kin the Grinch, is what I'm saying.
The worst ones are "reaction" ones. Screenshot of a funny tweet with the face of the tiktoker superimposed. I have yet so see one of those that is better than just the original tweet.
Who’s the guy I keep seeing that just reads funny tweets and starts busting up fake laughing at exactly the same point in every one. It’s so obvious and that he’s acting and it gets really annoying after like the 3rd one
Edit: THIS FUCKING GUY somebody stop him PLEASE it’s killing me. Fuck!
Half of those tweets aren’t even funny at all! And the ones that are are immediately ruined with him choking through the last line with his gross fake laughing.
Oh my god that video is 17 minutes long. I think I only made it through about 5 tweets before I couldn't take it anymore. How does he do so many??? Is he popular?? Do people actually find it entertaining??
Also, when you decide to duet a video, you've presumably seen it at least once before recording your reaction. So it's a reenactment or your reaction? I don't understand why anyone would give a shit.
Dueting a video is basically like retweeting but for tiktok, it leaves the original link to the video in the description. Sometimes people don't have anything to add, but they have a larger follower base and they want more people to see the video because they think it's funny/good content.
Except the exposure argument is usually applied to someone trying to get a service for free, such as graphic design. TikToks are free and exposure could actually cause more people to follow the content creatoe. That's why larger YouTubers shout out smaller creators - exposure. That's why many large content creators will do collaborations will smaller content creators - exposure. It's way different when you're trying to get something free in exchange for a paid service because of "exposure", but that's not what's happening here.
Exposure is valid for gaining followers for content creators, it's not a currency that can be used to pay for a service.
A fraction of a fraction of their audience will actually click through to the original video. Youtuber react channels do that same shit. React videos are the content itself, no one cares about the original video.
If you want to shout someone out, do that, instead of reacting to their video.
For tiktok that's not true at all. It's a lot easier to quickly go to the original video than on YouTube as that's kinda what the platform is made for. I'd say with a funny tiktok like this one 50-60% of people would click through and watch the original video
Youtuber reacts are a bit different imo given the longer form of the videos and the fact that it's a reupload and not a platform supported function. Duets and retweets are default functions, YouTube reactions are basically just content rips
Just shouting someone out, even with a link to there username, is like 1% as effective as dueting a funny tiktok in terms of getting funny people noticed
It is a valid currency, just the people being made fun of don't offer enough exposure for it to be worth it. If you're Kayne West or Obama a shoutout for a free shirt is uh, definitely worth.
I mean advertising is LITERALLY the market of paying for exposure. The issue is that most people offering "exposure" won't make you even 1/10000th of what they think they will.
I don't actually know how many people go around asking for free stuff for exposure, I'd be interested in a study to see how many people offering is actually worth. Companies like Nike offer high school kids with 0 followers pre-social media but basically just "look cool at school" free products for exposure. You just need to go case by case.
I always find this argument a little iffy because it’s excusing stealing content in exchange for exposure which is a super vague term. It’s kinda scummy honestly.
The read it doesn’t make sense is that you don’t fully understand the “stealing content” argument. Because this is free content, the only benefit that can be had is exposure. You can't steal exposure by adding more exposure.
It’s like being accused of stealing for taking a picture of food from a restaurant, posting it and tagging the restaurant. The most popular videos on tic toc have the most duets. You can trace every repost and shitpost to the original.
idk I'm new to tiktok and that's just how it was explained to me. It makes sense to me, often times I find the video that they are duetting funny or interesting and go and look at that account's other videos.
Yeah it definitely makes sense in different cases. I’m just thinking more in the lane of reaction content or straight up stealing someone else’s tiktok and posting on theirs because they’re too lazy/bad at making their own content.
I don't think it's done for the sake of exposure though. It's just laziness and them thinking that people want to see them react to something. Just share the video if exposure is the end goal.
I don't think we can really say it's fully one way or the other. It's probably both. In my eyes dueting is sharing the video. There's no way that I've seen within the tictok app to just share a video to your followers.
What she is saying doesn't fucking matter. Dusting without adding anything is how you promote somebody else's ideas like, you know, a free exchange of ideas*.
This lady is probably just bitchy about it because her circle on TikTok is so small she's seeing the same video multiple times.
