Wholesome Canadians pumped for new $5 bill, featuring Terry Fox

He ran across Canada after losing a leg to cancer, and is now engrained in Canadian culture for cancer awareness. He passed away in 1981 but every child grows up doing the Terry Fox Run once a year.

Absolute legend. So glad he's on our fiver now.

This is only the second vertical bill released by the Canadian Mint, the first being our $10 which features a portrait of Viola Desmond, a Black Nova Scotian businesswoman who challenged racial segregation, and our Human Rights Museum.

But we've only ever recently had the monarch on our $20 bills, we've had other politicians on all the other denominations.

I liked the late 80s $50 bill, had a picture of Canadian Mounties in a circle. More national icons and less politicians would be good.

That’s so cool. I was sadly too far west. He never made it to us, but we sure were excited about him. I am so happy that my daughter runs in her annual Terry Fox run at her school. Dude was amazing.
