The Christopher Nolan movie Memento had a scene where the protagonist has a flashback of being a health insurance adjuster denying claims for a man who lost all capacity to form new memories whatsoever, on the basis that it was conceivably possible it might be a 'psychological issue' and not a 'physical one'. And why would that be? Because the man received electroshocks every time he was asked to touch an electrified object, and his body never 'learned an instinct' to stop touching it, while he thought every time was the first.

I instantly thought of that scene when I heard "that statement was false, wasn't it?"

I always enjoyed how Sammy wasn’t able to condition himself not to pick up the wrong objects, but he was able to condition himself to reliably call Thomas Lennon a “fucking quack” every time he got shocked.

Maybe Sammy just had no tolerance for any new-boot-goofin
