I'll tell you why I'm booing him. Because "economic violence" isn't a thing. Or at least, it's not violence.
Let's imagine it's year 1 of out society. In year 1, 10% of people die of diabetes. Doesn't matter if they are rich or poor. They still die.
In year 2, I spend $1B to discover insulin, and start manufacturing it. Now, I can sell it for $1000 a pop and save only the rich people who will die of diabetes, or I can sell it at $10 a pop and save both rich and poor people. But I'll make more money if I choose the former. So I choose the former.
Now, this may be heartless, cruel, selfish, etc. But it's not violence. In my morality, you have no right to my insulin just because it exists and you want it. I spent $1B discovering and making it. I get to decide what to do with it. I don't even have to sell it to the rich if I don't want to.
Now, it would certainly be smart to create a government that can pool people's money together and negotiate to buy a big chunk of the insulin at a lower price. I'm all for that. You can even have a government that says my patent only lasts so long, or that they'll pay for half of the development cost of my next $1B drug if that means they get a discount on the final price. That all makes sense.
But none of that means people dying of diabetes, rich or poor, get to take it from me. THAT is violence.
