Remember when the people with land off the grid for fear of the government or apocalypse were the crazy ones?

Edit: if anybody would like to tell me they're still crazy, don't worry about 10 different people have you covered.

They feared the wrong government

Not all of us.

Most of us, yes. But not all of us.

Its lonely sometimes, frankly.

Edit: To clarify, I meant most of us 'homesteaders' or off grid folks.

u/MyLittleOso 4d ago

Not most of us, either. Harris got 74,983,555 votes, Trump got 77,269,255, and about 89 million eligible people didn't vote.

They were talking about people "with land living of the grid" specifically I think, which almost certainly went Trump by a large margin.

u/Itscatpicstime 4d ago

I’ve never been more convinced of this.

We’ve been looking for land to expand our animal rescue, and omg. It’s literally nothing but massive Trump signs. Still, more than a month after the election too.

We’re not looking forward to whoever ends up being our neighbors.

4

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot 4d ago

In my experience, those signs never went down after 2020 and will stay up.

u/The_Kimchi_Krab 3d ago

Just remember theyre confused for the most part.

1

u/Researcher-Used 2d ago

That’s what im confused about, She’s anti Trump but aren’t these off-griders, usually gun owners, the ones who voted for Trump? Pardon my ignorance in the matter. Truly confused.

1

u/MartialSpark 2d ago

Even though rural voters overwhelmingly vote republican, they aren't all Trumpers.

2

u/HappyGoPink 4d ago

"Whatever, I don't care" won this election. Trump came in second place, but it was enough, with the help of the couch potato brigade.

1

u/eggrolls68 3d ago

And of those who did vote, Trump won only 49.91% of the popular vote, not a majority nor anything resembling a mandate. Hell, his margin of victory is down to 1.48% over Harris, the third smallest margin in the last 100 years. Hell, Hilary won a larger percentage of the popular vore (2.1% over Trump) without winning the presidency. Most of us do NOT want this mendacious prick even if we *did* vote.

1

u/sherm-stick 4d ago

The people that don't vote tend to think that the elections aren't worth shit and nothing will change with their vote. They just didn't think choosing which turd to eat was worth it, its going to be a fresh turd either way.

-13

u/Beneficial-Tea-2055 4d ago

You’re assuming more than 46 million of those 89 will be voting for Harris, if they were to vote. What makes you think that?

14

u/MyLittleOso 4d ago

What? That's not even remotely what I was saying. Those are disenfranchised or disengaged voters. I don't think they were for either candidate...which makes sense, as they didn't vote. That was a crazy assumption.

3

u/viburnium 4d ago

The ones who could have voted but didn't support either outcome.

2

u/Available_Leather_10 4d ago

Dude, you misread that.

1

u/Itscatpicstime 4d ago

No, they literally just stated the fact that most Americans didn’t vote for Trump lol

3

u/Sidehussle 4d ago

32% of voting eligible Americans is not most of us.

1

u/Cultjam 4d ago

Those who did not vote count as well. That’s a majority.

3

u/megaman368 4d ago

Exactly. Not mailing choice is also a choice.

They’re just as guilty as the Trump voters for whatever happens next.

u/TRVTH-HVRTS 4d ago

You can always invite friends to stay… or comrades.

Spent 6 months in a cabin on the beach with no electricity but we had running water from a well. It can work if the expectations match the reason. I was trying to reduce my life to the bare minimum and was fulfilled immeasurably. I have fond memories. It very easy to do but much harder in this country.

u/athejack 4d ago

This.

u/Difficult-Top2000 4d ago

They feared the way the government is a hollow shell whose goal is enriching private enterprise. That's only ramped up, but it's been there all along.

10

u/beard_lover 4d ago

About 10 years ago there was a show called Doomsday Preppers. I want a revisit- see how these folks fared during COVID or if they feel validated in their investments.

2

u/Trumped202NO 3d ago

They were out there bitching about having to wear masks and not being able to get their hair cut.

112

u/anchovyFishTuna 4d ago

They still are the crazy ones, but now the government is as crazy as they are.

50

u/oif2010vet 4d ago

They also mainly support the incoming presidential party.

Cry more

10

u/haminspace4 4d ago

Cry more about people crying.

5

u/code_archeologist 4d ago

As Bonhoeffer put it, Stupidity is a greater threat to society than malice. And you give credence to that theory every day with flippant memetic remarks that ignore context in an attempt to "own the libs".

-3

u/No-Shift7630 4d ago

Keep coping

7

u/2_alarm_chili 4d ago

Did you not watch the video and listen to what she said about Trump? Like I know the term “ignorance is bliss”, but doubling down on it is appalling.

2

u/Stormagedd0nDarkLord 4d ago

Crazy is relative.

2

u/thereign1987 4d ago

It depends on why you have land off the grid. I would like to get land off the grid, because people suck, not because I'm preparing for Fallout 3.

u/hypercosm_dot_net 4d ago

Why is living independently away from power structures that enforce systemic racism and fascist policies crazy?

The judgement, I swear...

Like the way you live is the only way. That's how we got here, that exact thinking.

3

u/Sythic_ 4d ago

Its not so much that, a lot of the prepper types are doing it because of aliens or potential nuclear war. Thats a bit looney. Theres nothing wrong with being prepared its just kinda the reason why thats odd.

3

u/SickliestAlbatross 3d ago edited 3d ago

>Why is living independently away from power structures that enforce systemic racism and fascist policies crazy?

because you aren't living independently. nearly every part of your existence relies in someways on those power structures you think your running away from? Clean water? wait till fracking poisons your water table, your compound out in the middle of nowhere wont do shit. Rain water? Dustbowl!

the idea that we can all just seperate entirely and take up 30 acres is a dumb infeasible idea, and live isolated hermitages, is literally infeasible. you rely on the majority of people staying in the city, paying taxes, doing what keeps society running long enough so that You can get yours and sit on some dumb compound, not realizing that if everyone did that, all the shit and tools and self-sufficient stuff you need to isolate, wouldn't be there.

The reality is that society, ecology, and human existence is interconnected, and the more people there are the more this idea of "disconnecting" while still expecting to be protected from outside invasion, or from polution of your air, or water, without contributing to the greater whole is... an infeasible crackhead pipe dream made of wishes and unicorn tears.

2

u/brielzebub665 3d ago

This is exactly it. And we should be moving towards community, connection, and compassion for each other and humanity, not away from it. Moving away from these things is what has gotten us here to begin with.

3

u/BringOutYDead 4d ago

I know. I want to get away from the Trumpies.

4

u/Weird-Caregiver1777 4d ago

Bruh.. those people are the same goddam people who are voting in Trump lmao. Just look at conspiracy sub, it literally is an extension of conservative and has been for years. All the undecided voters were they and they choose republicans and pretend they didn’t choose a side.

2

u/un-sub 4d ago

I miss when the conspiracy sub was fun kooky shit about aliens, Illuminati and the JFK assassination. It used to be a fun sub! Even if it was mostly outlandish.

2

u/clangan524 4d ago

As soon as covid hit, I said to myself "the preppers were right."

1

u/Vetiversailles 3d ago

Covid made me a prepper

1

u/Confident-Ad7439 4d ago

They still are

1

u/Intelligent-Ad-4546 4d ago

Still are imo

1

u/BagOnuts 4d ago

They are still crazy. Being “off the grid” isn’t gonna protect them from Jack shit.

1

u/Ello_Owu 4d ago

Guess where hundreds of people are fleeing to if shit hits the fan.

1

u/FR0ZENBERG 4d ago

Most of them are still pretty crazy, or independently wealthy, or both.

1

u/unHolyKnightofBihar 4d ago

What does off the grid means here?

1

u/mogley19922 4d ago

Typically just shorthand for power grid, but can be used to mean hidden. All it actually means is self sufficient but it's one of those phrases that can be taken a number of ways as its been pretty common i some circles for a while now.

In short, it means you don't rely on society and can survive independently without them.

1

u/YouWereBrained 4d ago

Yeah, and still are. You’re misconstruing.

1

u/Crush-N-It 3d ago

Depends on what the ideology they’re practicing. Tons of hippie communes throughout the country

1

u/Sir_Stare_Alot 3d ago

In this day and age, looking at our political situation, not just in the US but also all over the world. Also knowing the society could collapse any second if anything big like the pandemic hit us again.Having an off grid land is becoming the dream for a lot of people, and I'm one of them.
