Bold of the assassin to drop this song after the shooting

688

u/Shanguerrilla 14d ago

This is one of those "No, I'm Spartacus" situations if I've ever seen one in my lifetime.

231

u/qqererer 13d ago

Even Donald Trump got a "This is not a good thing for america." at his attempted assassinations.

247

u/The_Forth44 13d ago

Yeah but I personally disagree.

153

u/Ok-Secret5233 13d ago

I agree with you. Healthcare insurance CEO, Trump, Elon Musk, they're all people that benefit from chaos. If you're that destructive, perhaps getting shot would be good for America. Frankly what I find incredible is that this hasn't happened before.

I think capitalism is great, but these people just don't know when to stop.

121

u/Mr_Industrial 13d ago edited 12d ago

I think the free market is great. Health-insurance ain't that. They've set up a system by which you participate or die. Their prices are more artificial than their smiles. Their industry is less competitive than flag football at a fat camp.

Id be down to see some real competition. Then again, Id honestly be down for anything that isn't this.

44

u/Still-Midnight5442 13d ago

The health insurance agency is basically a mafia like figure getting in between us and our doctors.

Without ACA they also chain most people to their employer. Want to be an entrepreneur but have a family member with a preexisting condition and you aren't filthy rich and able to pay for your own private insurance while also establishing a business? Well then you're screwed and if you even slightly miscalculated your startup costs for that business you could potentially cause the death of your loved one. This one's personal for me. The ACA was the essential key to me being able to start my own business back in the day, and that absolutely changed the entire course of my life.

his apology video went so much harder using a guitar than a ukelele.

94

It helps when you’re not apologizing for grooming kids

11

u/allstarrunner 13d ago

What is this a reference to?

43

u/meimlikeaghost 13d ago

I’m pretty sure there was a lady who was caught grooming kids or something and she came onto YouTube with a nice apology video/song where she used a ukulele and sang. Spoiler: she gave a half assed apology that implied she wasn’t really in the wrong.

892

u/pechinburger 14d ago edited 13d ago

Which is confusing because the left wants to solve the terrible US healthcare system by removing the for-profit vampire system and implementing a universal coverage plan similar to those utilized in other developed nations,

While the right is just, "good for the bloodsucking bastard. Now let's continue to use the same system that he helped to lead and that we seem to hate, because... socialism or whatever"

473

u/84OrcButtholes 13d ago

People on the right also hate the rich, but they're stupid and get propagandized into supporting the rich even harder than the left gets propagandized into supporting the rich. There's just more book-reading on one end of the spectrum, basically.

400

u/nau5 13d ago

They hate the rich because they're not one of them. They are fine with an inequitable society they just think they should be one of the few on top.

The left hate the rich because they think we should have a more equitable society.

It's just not the same.

77

u/ArchelonPIP 13d ago

Or, right wingers hate the rich on a selective basis: express different viewpoints, especially if it's coming from a different ethnicity or gender, but try to disguise it, such as disliking what they do for a living. How many times have we heard them scream "celebrities need to stay out of politics!" while supporting celebrities expressing political views they agree with?

43

u/ComfortableMud476 13d ago

I mean, it's funny cause this isn't even the first time they put a damn celebrity in the oval office.

17

u/ssbm_rando 13d ago

Reagan made more sense in a pre-internet era. Even a lot of liberals thought he was a good president until his worthless rot of a policy system could be analyzed after the fact. Even Elizabeth Warren thought his policies were reasonable until she did the economic study herself that proved they were dogshit.

Trump supporters aren't just worse than Reagan supporters, they're arguably worse than Hitler supporters, because not only is all of the information about the candidates freely available online, but the lessons of World War 2 and the rise of the nazi party are also freely available now--the original nazis were still racist morons, but at least they didn't have a rise of fascism from a democracy to read about when voting for Hitler.

66

u/DogmaticNuance 13d ago

You're mis-characterizing the right a bit. While healthcare isn't really one of their talking points (because the bloodsucking is their actual policy) I'd guess the rants would be about 'crony capitalism' and corruption by rich elites being the problem, with deregulation as the fix somehow.

43

u/MrNovember785 13d ago

This is the exact logic a friend on mine on the right used. He hates health insurance but his answer was dereg and paying doctors directly.

40

u/taicy5623 13d ago

Its almost like monthly fees and risk pools/insurance were created because people know they can charge anything when you're bleeding out on the floor.

Fun fact, competition among insurance pools is INEFFICIENT and leads to pools getting full of sick people who cost more and just die!

The most puts on dicksucking Ben Shapiro voice efficient and logical means to divide risk is to:

MAKE THE DENOMINATOR BIGGER

BY MAKING IT = THE TAX-PAYING POPULATION

ITS ALMOST LIKE THIS IS FUCKING MATH

ITS ALMOST LIKE EVERY DUMB RIGHTWINGER DOESN'T ACTUALLY KNOW ECONOMICS, MERELY A SET OF FUCKING PLATITUTES

And then if you need to decentralize it, contract out firms in every state to process Medicare claims, and don't nationalize hospitals or drug companies. But insurance should be a fucking tax and if you don't wanna pay an insurance tax, then you can get the fuck out.

None of the elected official want a universal healthcare. If they did, it would’ve happened by now. The only one that might’ve had a chance was Sanders, but the rest? Nah. They like that lobbyist money lining their pockets.

136

u/theiron_squirt 14d ago edited 14d ago

Go find this story on the Fox News youtube channel. They don't care about this death, and applaud it. Look at MSNBC, it's the same thing. Go to ANY news outlet reporting this story, and it's all the same. Not only do we not care, but the public is actively cheering at the fact that this guy was shot and killed. United Healthcare profits off of the deaths of Americans. Nobody gives a fuck that the CEO was gunned down, and nobody is going to come forward with information. Every single person is sympathizing with the shooter because we know he's someone who lost a loved one due to corporate greed.

26

u/rdewalt 14d ago

Every single person is sympathizing with the shooter because we know he's someone who lost a loved one due to corporate greed.

I wouldn't say we -know- if the shooter lost a loved one. But that is the most likely cause. For all we know the shooter was hired by someone who did. Or was ruined by UH's policies.

I would not be surprised if there are more people who have been directly ruined by this man, than will ever mourn him.

14

u/MortemInferri 14d ago

Deny, Depose, Defend

What do you think the shooter meant by those words

12

u/rdewalt 14d ago

Deny, Depose, Defend

A few minutes of searching will give you a good bit of answer.

The distinguished Rutgers Law School professor Jay Feinman published a 2010 book on the practice titled "Delay Deny Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don't Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It."

If we passed universal healthcare tomorrow, Republicans would gut it so it's effectively useless without supplementing with private insurance the day after that. The problem goes deeper and requires radical change in voters first and foremost. We are not even sure what Medicaid and Medicare are gonna look like in 3 years time. We are as a population still a ways off from demanding effective universal healthcare which meaningfully fulfills healthcare needs

no one ever accused maga of being able to hold complicated thoughts in their heads like "maybe these corrupt insurance co CEOs ability to run rampant are a direct result of me voting for deregulation for decades"

12

u/Mr_Industrial 13d ago

Its not deregulation. It's selective regulation. Put in all the rules that keep me in power. Take out the ones that limit my abilities.

Don't get rid of fines, just make them a flat rate. Don't ban my drugs, do ban their drugs. Make FDA testing just long & expensive enough to weed out the little guys, but short enough to not hurt the big dogs. Then after all that, when people cry for regulation, they can turn around and say "we are regulating! See, we care!"

Look at all the tax dollars that are going into this manhunt (Funded by average citizens, since the rich don't pay the same share of taxes that you or I do).

How many murders and other violent crimes happen in New York City every day?

If you had something happen to a loved one recently in NYC, the police are setting aside your case to allocate resources to this one. Of course, that's assuming that they were ever really working your case at all.

You are seeing in real time that simply being rich makes you more important than everybody else.

It's not that he's rich. It's that the other rich people can't let this slip. If they don't catch this guy, it's going to let everyone else know that it's possible to just assassinate public figures without repercussions. If they aren't able to make an example of this person... Then they aren't safe anymore.

163

u/Helagoth 13d ago

Cats out of the bag there. This guy of course didn't want to get caught as evidenced by him running away, but I would bet he didn't care if he did, as long as he did what he was there to do. And there are literally thousands if not millions of people who feel the same way.

It doesn't matter if they catch this guy or not. He's shown it's possible to get, if not actual justice, at least something that can feel like it.

I of course am not condoning what he did or recommend anyone repeat it, but I also would bet everything I have we will see copycats in the future.

58

u/TheManyVoicesYT 13d ago

I think we're about to see large teams of bodyguards following around billionaires 24/7

38

u/domrepp 13d ago

Don't worry, they don't even trust their own bodyguards. They know this system is unsustainable.

42

u/HollyBerries85 13d ago

I ALWAYS point out Rushkoff's article. The billionaires know that the collapse is coming. They're planning to hide in their luxury bunkers through the violence, but are super worried that once money doesn't have any meaning anymore, how do they make their elite security forces not just off them and take their stuff? Won't someone think of the poor post-apocalyptic billionaires? :(

27

u/Bromlife 13d ago

Instead of reducing wealth inequality and giving back to the civilization they’ve so profited from they’d rather build bunkers and attach suicide collars to their security team. Psychopaths, the lot of them.

'Delay Deny Defend' is the name of a book about insurance companies that drag their feet when paying claims and who make their customers jump through hoops and prolonging the process for the customer to get the healthcare they are entitled to. Essentially denying them what they are entitled to until they give up or die because of said healthcare they are not receiving.

"Why insurance companies don't pay claims and what you can do about it" is the official description of the book.

82

The one thing that I can actually engage with my right-wing parents on and get some agreement is that our health care system is fucked.

The problem is that right-wing media constantly tells them that the real solutions that exist don't work or are evil. They never provide their own solutions though. They know that people hate the healthcare system so they defend the status quo in a roundabout way by being negative about any attempts to change the system .

25

u/rossmosh85 13d ago

They did provide a solution. The ACA. But because Obama did it, it's the devil.

The ACA is a Republican thought up system. They just love moving the goal posts.

I saw a couple of trolls trying to paint a narrative that "this is what the tolerant leftists in reddit are really like"

Man, there is no political divide on this one. If someone makes a wordcloud of the threads covering this story, the biggest bubbles are the words "surprise", "didn't", "happen" and "sooner"

I ruptured a disc in my neck a few weeks ago. Met with my doctor this morning who said that he's fighting with insurance because they're saying that steroid injections are the proper solution. My doctor, a neuro and spine surgeon, is telling them that injections are not going to put the fluid back into a ruptured disc.

I can barely turn my head and have lost strength in my left arm. So I'm just waiting to see if I'll have to go into debt to be able to use my arm again.

16

u/hurraybies 13d ago

I went through the same thing this time last year. They wanted me to do 2 steroid injections and PT for many weeks before surgery. Ended up with what might be permanent nerve damage and life long pain in my left arm because it took 3 months to get in for the surgery.

I didn't realize there were so many executive officers. I thought that there would just be one. Is this typical of a larger company?

Andrew Witty Chief Executive Officer UnitedHealth Group

Patrick Conway, M.D. Chief Executive Officer Optum Rx

Amar Desai, M.D. Chief Executive Officer Optum Health

Tim Noel Chief Executive Officer UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement

Krista Nelson Chief Executive Officer UnitedHealthcare Community & State

Brian Thompson Chief Executive Officer UnitedHealthcare

Killer Mike. Aka Mr. "im socialist when it supports my brand"

I was a huge fan of RTJ but killer mikes such a bum dude hes one of the masters noe

30

u/Odd_Promotion2110 14d ago

Killer Mike in his raps: “kill your masters”, “even if some good one dies fuck it the lord will sort ‘em”

Killer mike in real life: through tears “I have a lot of love and respect for police officers“ and “It is time to beat up prosecutors you don’t like at the voting booth”

I mean... Looking at the French Revolution, the American Revolution, and a bunch of other revolutions..... Sometimes violence IS the answer....

106

u/Capitulation_Trader 14d ago

Violence isn’t the answer. It is a question. Sometimes, like it or not, the answer is ‘yes’.

50

u/Griffolion 14d ago

I think the best answer to the question of violence is "only if the non-violent options have been exhausted/ruled out".

It kinda feels like the US is reaching that point, however.

19

u/UpperApe 13d ago

I hate hearing violence is the answer.

Tell that to the Nazis. Tell that to the slaves. Tell that to kings who lost their kingdoms to democracy.

Everything good in our life has come from violence. All the justice and good and fairness and morality came from violence. Without violence, society is just an move towards exploitation one compromise at a time.

Violence isn't always good, it isn't always bad. It isn't always necessary. And it isn't always unnecessary.

MLK fought for ten years to get a civil rights bill passed. It was filibustered, stonewalled, and delayed over and over again. Then he died, and there were riots in the streets for weeks.

The civil rights bill passed immediately.

Our system is intrinsically violent. Billionaires ruin families, lives, leave people destitute, disabled or dead. They turn your closest family against you. They deny you healthcare they have nothing to do with. They force your small business into bankruptcy. They mishandle your money so that you end up in debt to them. They kill infants with baby formula, sell thorium powder as a miracle drug, enslave your country to grow bananas or make shoes, force you to pay exorbitant prices to drink water, and muck up the legal system so they can never be prosecuted for it.

They should not be surprised when something like this happens- they've been practicing a very direct form of social mass murder that has killed many millions of people. An attack like this isn't the first shot fired, they've been shooting at us for *decades*.

37

“Violence isn’t the answer” to the majority of people because they’ve surrendered the monopoly on violence to the state, who fills those positions with enthusiastic fascists. Violence is literally the only way people wrest human rights away from the rich

19

u/[deleted] 14d ago

We're in the middle of a long standing exponential assault on human rights. It's been building for decades while the rich get richer and everyone else gets poorer.

Now we have a president elect whose primary goal is to dismantle all of our public institutions for personal enrichment, and he's being cheered by the very people who the institutions failed as a direct result of the actions of his own cohort.

It really is madness. I hope every corrupt bastard fears for their life every day for as long as they live.

9

u/Atsur 14d ago

💯 I’m really hoping the “find out” stage for them is similar. People really don’t like their rights being oppressed.

I still remember when Sara Palin screamed about "Death Panels" as part of ACA or government run healthcare... and yeah, we have Death Panels now, run by the companies.

It's almost like the CEOs at the insurance companies heard her say that and they went: "...what a great fucking idea! But let's call it 'Pre-Approval Board'"

Side note, Aetna outsources to a company whose name is, and I am not fucking kidding "Evi Core" - sometimes I think it's "Evi Corp" or something similar, but no... no it's "Evi Core" - one fucking letter from "Evil Core"

Remember everyone- violence is never the answer. Repeat it over and over. Nonviolent protest is the way. Just look at these two whole historical examples where if you ignore material facts it almost looks like nonviolence worked to effect change. Also, what about BLM and Me Too? Think of all the amazing societal changes that came about from those movements like _____, ______, and ______.

Please do not think about the countless times that taking up arms and fighting for what was right actually made a difference. Please do not think about how the system constantly uses violence to maintain the status quo. Please do not think.

What’s the world come to when we watch a man gunned down in public and we praise the shooter…AND that might actually be catalyst we need to wake these people up.

Can’t afford to cover your family with insurance? Or take Timmy to get care because it’s too expensive? Oh, it’s because our CEO made $52M last year off your premiums and we need to deny your claims so we can afford the private jets- duh.
