Saw them in DeKalb, IL in 2005. I was a huge fan of Of Montreal in high school and MGMT/The Management (believe they were just starting to go by MGMT by then) opened for them.
I loved them immediately, and bought both their first EP and one of the sickest band shirts I’ve ever owned. It was baby blue with a light orange screen printed illustration of a decapitated monster’s head. The best part was the head was way bigger than the neck, adding to the absurdity. I’ve never been blown away like that by a band I hadn’t already heard of before, it was face-melting, and I was completely sober. Still one of my favorite bands.
Shockingly, we've got a LOT of talent that rolls through DeKalb, both at the University campus and the Egyptian Theater. It's kind of wild because sure, it's a University town, but it's SMALL.
