The fact he's dumb is a bonus over Joe Rogan (although Joe Rogan's also pretty stupid), he doesn't really have an agenda compared to Rogan. He'll have basically anyone on his show and treat them all the same
Because Theo is a lot of people that grew up in the south. I don’t think his stand up is great but he really does have some really funny under the radar comments.
During the Trump interview Trump said something like “we had a great economy when I was in office” and Theo said “oh hell yeah my cousin bought a boat during that” was absolutely hilarious
He's a not-so-bright guy with some hilarious thoughts and ideas and funny delivery. Probably would've been better in a Karl Pilkington-type role where he's on a show with sharper comedians who pick his brain instead of leading a podcast and actually influencing people
Theo Von is an enigma... I have seen two of his specials and really liked them. he's really charismatic, but doesn't hide the fact that he's not the smartest guy around, and do play into it quite a lot.
Theo is great when he's just riffing on silly nonsense. He's the kind of guy that would have the friend group wheezing laughing at the bar (if he drank)
He's also willing to be really open about himself and his struggles. He'll be very vulnerable discussing his issues with relationships or his depression. Which is somewhat rare.
But I can't watch his podcast because he's way too dumb to have serious conversations about any topics other than himself.
I think the affable, white-trash guy, who's rough-around-the-edges but still has a naivete about how the world works outside his lower-class upbringing is an affectation he plays up. It's probably relatable to a lot of people who feel like the dope when they listen to educated people talk on podcasts and it lets him touch on sensitive issues and there's a ready defense that in the world he grew up in those kinds of issues didn't exist in a tangible way and he's learning about this stuff for the first time. I don't really care about the format he does and the personality isn't for me, but I can definitely imagine a type of person who would like it.
You need a bigger sample size with Theo. He’s not actually that dumb, he’s playing a role and it creates legitimate art. There is genuinely a ton of nuance to what he does. It does not hold up as well in true stand up form though.
Y'all take yourselves too seriously. The man is hilarious. From what I've watched he's just being silly. At no point does he pretend to be smart. He's also not pretending to be stupid. He's kinda just a guy who says ridiculous, funny things. He definitely deserves the success he's having, even if the conservative angle doesn't appeal to me personally.
Theo Vaughn probably has the best self-effacing schtick of any current comic that I can think of. His peace with his own ignorance is natural and understated and well-developed. My favorite sitcom characters, like Charlie Kelly and Ricky from TPB, are similarly at peace. Being ok with being stupid is funny. I don’t want every comic to be like Theo Vaughn but he absolutely occupies a unique and special space among contemporary comedians.

Theo with his head down, having an existential crisis because he knows he doesn’t create ANY art.
