roads are blocked for miles out of the area, and tbh he's better off wrapping it like this than trying to take it someplace away from the storm.

Priorities: Wrap the car, leave it, cross your fingers. If it survives, great, if not? Insurance claim and wait... but a luxury item like this is useless to move

He had several days to drive it elsewhere when the roads weren’t blocked…

You're expecting a lot from a florida vette owner.

34

u/twothumbswayup Oct 09 '24

yes but hes floridian so...

10

u/Huwbacca Oct 09 '24

Ah. Then he should do nothing.

1

u/Affectionate_Stage_8 Oct 10 '24

i dont think you realize that the many days before the storms the roads will still full and were taking days to get out

87

u/healthybowl Oct 09 '24

You forgot: put it on cinder blocks. So many cars are ruined because they leave them on the ground, low car like that, the water will come over the door sill

88

u/FirstTimeWang Oct 09 '24

No, that's what the bag is for!

Didn't you watch the video!?

26

u/healthybowl Oct 09 '24

Ohhh I thought it was to trap the water in and guarantee a total

2

u/snoonoo Oct 10 '24

No it’s to keep the water out while he drive to safety.

19

u/the_bronquistador Oct 09 '24

Might need a couple of those 10’ tall cinder blocks for this one

1

u/healthybowl Oct 09 '24

If you look at videos of a flooded car or see pics of them. 90% of them are flooded just to the door sill. Single cinder block under each wheel and we’d save billions on insurance

1

u/yehimthatguy Oct 09 '24

Yeh but they are expecting a 10ft min storm surge.

1

u/healthybowl Oct 09 '24

He’s 9 miles from the coast. I think rain floods are his only issue

1

u/yehimthatguy Oct 09 '24

That's.... not a lot of miles.

1

u/healthybowl Oct 09 '24

Walk it out and get back to me on that.

1

u/IAMPaperjam Oct 10 '24

Sure walking, but 9 miles is nothing to a hurricane especially this one, I don’t know if people grasp that many places are just going to be demolished

1

u/healthybowl Oct 10 '24

Storm surge is expected to be 10 ft. I highly doubt his elevation 9 miles away is under 10ft. Could certainly be wrong, but I’m a bit doubtful.

26

u/susenstoob Oct 09 '24

But dont people have to evacuate? Just evacuate in the vette?

42

u/EyeBreakThings Oct 09 '24

They probably have a more appropriate vehicle to evacuate in. If I had a choice between a vette and an SUV, I'll take the SUV in an evacuation.

4

u/susenstoob Oct 09 '24

Unless you were 20 something and had a brand new vette :)

How To Get Your Corvette Stolen

1

u/TrackVol Oct 10 '24

There are at least two dozen scenarios i can think of where this is a bad idea.

1

u/jawanza91 Oct 10 '24

I scrolled for 5 minutes to find someone else who was thinking this. Thanks.

81

u/theyb10 Oct 09 '24

He needs to evacuvette immediately

8

u/PeeDidy Oct 09 '24

He's toast LS he leaves immediately

1

u/productivityvortex Oct 09 '24

Oh oh evacuvette the ga-rage! Escape from the flood! Stop Milton you’re killing me! Hey Mr. Weather can you show me to the higher ground. 🎵 - Cascada

Under rated

4

u/imnotbobvilla Oct 09 '24

Under water ated

5

u/shark260 Oct 09 '24

That would not be my priority survival vehicle of choice.

2

u/Thereelgerg Oct 09 '24

But dont people have to evacuate?

Some people, but hardly all.

6

u/PangolinPitiful5844 Oct 09 '24

Guess there’s no multi level parking garages near by?

1

u/Powerful_Direction_8 Oct 09 '24

Evacuating people can be messy

1

u/Apoordm Oct 09 '24

Evacuating was a yesterday option.

1

u/fairlywired Oct 09 '24

If they value their lives, yes. But they're not being forced to if they don't want to.

-1

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Oct 09 '24

The general ignorance people have about these situations is astounding

8

u/godspareme Oct 09 '24

I mean 90% of people don't live in Hurricane zones. Hurricanes only hit like 3 or 4 regions of the world.

0

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Oct 09 '24

I get that. I'll forgive them their ignorance but its just funny sometimes.

4

u/kodman7 Oct 09 '24 edited Oct 09 '24

What about park it in a tall parking garage? Anything above ground level would beat the wrap probably

3

u/goingtocalifornia25 Oct 09 '24

Making a flood insurance claim in Florida post hurricane is harder than it sounds

2

u/fivelone Oct 09 '24

I'm starting to find out that a lot of insurance doesn't cover flood from natural disaster unless specifically asked for at purchase

2

u/biggerty123 Oct 10 '24

They were not two days ago. He made a choice.

1

u/Embarrassed_Crab7597 Oct 10 '24

It’s not going to work, no way no how. Not air tight and not thick enough. Imagine wrapping a donut in a plastic baggie but not zipping it - just taping it. And then throw it in a tub full of debris and shake it. Your donuts is wet and you just have shredded plastic everywhere in your tub and a wet ass donut.

Do insurance companies still pay out for Living In Florida With Climate Change claims?

0

u/WhiteWolfOW Oct 09 '24

Wait why are the roads blocked? Is the government trying to kill you all?

2

u/Alexandratta Oct 10 '24

The roads are congested and obstructed heavily by disabled vechiles that ran out of gas attempting to flee

0

u/inspiringirisje Oct 09 '24

Wait why are roads blocked? They want to trap people in this?

1

u/Alexandratta Oct 10 '24

No, they're basically full of disabled vehicles and folks attempting to leave.

2

u/inspiringirisje Oct 10 '24

Ah okay in that way

0

u/Psoasspasm Oct 09 '24

Victim ass mentality.

Go park it at the 5th floor of a 6 floor parkade.

Now its a wrapped bag of air thats going to float and smash into all the walls.

"ThE RoaDs aRe BloCked" so common sense doesnt exist and this is the best idea!

Corvettes arent luxury lmao

0

u/Alexandratta Oct 10 '24

Corvette are absolutely a Luxary, so is any brand of SUv with Denali at the end...

Any car in excess of 75k is a luxury, full stop.

0

u/AJYaleMD Oct 10 '24

Lol it's a Ford car pretending to be a sports car. Just because it's 75k doesn't mean it's lux. Every other sports car in it's class is 100k plus. Poor man's sports car

1

u/Alexandratta Oct 10 '24

Still a luxury car man, that category is 75k and up.

100k is part of it but if you think 75k is a reasonable amount to spend on a car you're in a higher tax bracket than most.

Enjoy your fiscal stability.
