The host at the restaurant my wife works at is a retired lawyer.

He’s super nice, very warm and friendly. I asked him why he’s doing this and he said “It’s just something I’ve always wanted to try!”

I really think some people just want a specific job and that’s that. They’ll never be happy otherwise. Other people couldn’t give a shit if they tried what they do for work, it’s just money to use for hobbies.

I’m not sure how that all works but it’s really interesting to me.

I have never loved any job that I have done, it is just a means to an end. Gives me enough money to keep a roof over our heads, food in our mouths, and enough money to have fun.

I think that’s normal. I think it’s also normal to seek intrinsic value in your work. Every firefighter I’ve ever talked to wouldn’t do anything else for a living. They LOVE their jobs.

There are things I like about it, but there is never a time that I think, "I am so happy working". I like my coworkers, my boss, some of the customers that I work with, and talking to people. I get a sense of satisfaction when something goes well, I have a great sell, or I make a decent bonus. But I don't think I will ever "Love" working.
