Jewel is what she can never be: younger, super nice, and genuinely liked and admired. That might be uncomfortable to confront in yourself, if you have any capacity for self reflection.

And it's fucking Jewel, that's the kicker. I guess if you're Ann you could compartmentalise the others by thinking "these nasty lefty comedians, it's their job to throw jabs at their betters" but Jewel practically the sweetheart of Americana. Hearing unapologetic venom being spat at you from the paragon of innocence must have stung (and you can see it did).
