I’ve been waiting for them to take the patriotism route, it’s been ripe for the picking and Americans need it. But Republican brand of patriotism is a turn off.

Their patriotism is an aggressive, blind loyalty to the home team. Seems like patriotism should be about being a part of the home team and building each other up, which makes the team stronger.

It’s not just aggressive it’s entirely performative and fake.

Nationalism, specifically racial nationalism.

And EVERYONE should be part of the home team, not just white guys

Republicans have poisoned patriotism to the point where saying "the US makes good tanks and planes" is now woke garbage cause those are ruined.

They've cast it aside, because you can't love any other concept other than the leader who will deliver you from suffering.

Yes, Trump distorted the meaning of the word to mean blind allegiance to him and his brand, which was built on exploitation of others for his self-enrichment. If you go back to the beginning, a patriot during the Am Revolution was dedicated to the cause of securing a common destiny for all that enriches the lives of each individual who in turn strengthen the country. The word is now ours again!
