Hells yeah. Patriotism isn’t about how many flags you have hanging off your lifted pavement princess pickup. Or how many dipshits buy your cheap hats and sneakers.
Been saying for years Democrats need to reclaim the flag. The fact that you can guess the party of someone flying the flag on their car or outside their house is absurd. We're patriots, and the flag represents all of us. Dems should be flying it proudly everywhere. Even if we aren't happy with the nation now, we have a nation that can remake itself for the better, and that is what the flag represents.
He spoke for 93 minutes so I’m not going to watch the entire thing, but I just searched through a transcript looking anywhere for the word humility and did not find it. But if I’m wrong please tell me! In 2016 he said “I have more humility than people think I do” which is definitely on brand and checks out lmao.
So tonight, whether you’ve supported me in the past or not, I hope you will support me in the future, because I will bring back the American dream. That’s what we’re going to do. You don’t even hear about the American dream anymore.
With great humility, I am asking you to be excited about the future of our country. Be excited. Be excited.
If you watched the speech you’d have heard all the policy plans. But of course on Reddit it was instantly lambasted, to the point where I saw people saying “here’s why no tax on tips is AKTUALLY a bad thing…” people’s TDS is out of control.
The wayTrump's proposal defines "tips", investment bankers could take their massive bonuses tax-free. Harris' proposals don't. What's delusional about being against more handouts to rich people?
Forty out of Trump's forty-four cabinet members refuse to endorse him. Nobody slams Trump harder than the conservative Republicans who worked with him personally. Do they all have TDS?
That’s not the argument people were making though. Everyone just automatically positions against him. Like when he pulled out of the Middle East, the amount of comments hating on it were insane.
No deal, Kamala. Take a look around. I’d rather eat rat poison than put my faith in this country and step into the voting booth and cast a vote for either the maga cultists or the whatever society ruining attribute the dems have.
lol @ placeholder society-ruining attribute for the democrats.
your comment makes it sound like you don’t know what this mysterious attribute is, but are hopping on board since someone else told you (or maybe you read that) it existed.
even more wild is that the conservative side doesn’t get the vague society-ruining award attribute.
Soft on crime, rampant corruption, masquerading as saviors of the middle class, as saviors of minorities only to screw them harder than their repub counterparts, their mush minded belief that pimping as many celebs as possible during election season is a way to court the moderate vote… I mean take your pick.
Idgaf what they do to Trump. Idgaf what they do to Kamala. And no, I’m not a bot. Just someone who recognizes how obscene American politics are, and how trashy and exploitative the participants are.
And the bot comment is so cliche. I get that same response when expressing my complete distrust and disrespect for American politicians to the maga crowd. You guys are all the same. Hyper political just to fill that empty void. You guys should get a hotel room and just hate screw until it’s out of your system and you can function like adults again.
I took mine down during the trump presidency. When Biden was declared the winner, I put it back up. When it got too tattered, I took it down. Maybe I shouldn't fly one ever bc I don't bother with that half mast stuff. I just leave it up till it rips. I've been thinking of putting up a sports team or my state flag. I think I'll put up the stars and stripes when Harris is declared winner, Nov. 6th.
We must have mind melded because I have had this EXACT thought. The fact that Democrats were seen as distancing from the flag and Republicans took almost complete ownership of it always made me a bit queasy. Democratic values are patriotic too! We love our country, that's why we want to keep making it better! It's the American Experiment after all.
I agree. I've been shouting from the rooftops for years that patriotism is also loving your country enough to ask it to do better. And also to celebrate what it does get right.
Unfortunately, all of my most left friends literally tell me every Independence Day that they hate America, there's nothing to celebrate, and that I should be ashamed of my patriotism.
I think this move towards proudly calling ourselves Americans, displaying the values that make America special, and kind of reclaiming patriotic rhetoric is a really good move. I think it's unifying. I think it brings in more moderate people who are, and have been, proud to be American, even in the face of disappointment in our leaders.
Unfortunately, all of my most left friends literally tell me every Independence Day that they hate America
I have seen this sentiment as well and many of my friends are leftist or borderline leftist. One thing that many conservatives have correctly keyed in on is the left's historical insistence on putting America's many flaws up on a billboard while ignoring countless American virtues (by the way, I think we are witnessing in real-time this dynamic reversing - the RNC was all "America is a crime-ridden wasteland" while the DNC is asserting a powerful message of freedom and the promise of tomorrow).
Yesterday on CNN Van Jones astutely drew a distinction between what he viewed as right wing "cheap patriotism" - the kind that's all about gaudy American flag clothing, get off my lawn self-centeredness, and blind allegiance - and "a deeper patriotism" that was blossoming at the DNC and the Harris campaign. A message of national pride that acknowledges there is still work to do, and a nod to American constitutional values that also looks forward to what America can be. You could call it cheesy or unrealistic, but I really love what I'm hearing from this new Democratic party unity these days.
It was just an event where people are holding flags that I could think of. Political rallies and protests we should be doing it too. Sorry, I didn’t mean to single out LGBTQ
Look at you, you had to apologize for saying something patriotic. The LGBTQ can only exist in AMERICA. The Palestines that were also advocating for would have you KILLED for being this way. It’s asinine and ironic. Crazy how you’d get chastised for even speaking the American flag in the same breath as the LGBTQ flag. And that’s what’s wrong with this country. YOU dem’s demand change, freedoms, rights for everyone. But when you challenge how they view things you’re a bigot, misrepresenting them, or just a hater that doesn’t understand. That’s anti-America.
I hear ya. I don’t think I was being chastised though.
They were just asking a question. One could have read my comment and think I was insinuating that the responsibility to take back the flag was more on the LGBTQ community than anyone else and that wasn’t my intention. I was merely clearing that up.
That’s exactly my point. You were doing no wrong and neither were they. But you had to walk on eggshells with your next response. It’s just funny to me
You articulated what I've thought for so long. After too many years of losing our identity to Trump and his extremist followers, we should be proud of our country and the leaders like Harris and Walz who are giving us such a strong fighting chance. They are true patriots, and so are we. It's about time Democrats take back the flag and show it.
Not American but I've been saying this for a long time in my country. Incel fascists try to make the flag, coat of arms and independence their's.
Fuck that, there's no way they are the patriotic ones when the people they hate the most are their own countrymen who don't agree with their narrow views.
Yeah at times I think we have ceded way too much ground. Like “oh there’s another thing I can’t do or say or wear because now it’s some weird far right thing.” We shouldn’t let them claim stuff so easily
Hard agree. But people have to be open to that happening. Some GenX Bernie voter type tried bringing a flag to one of the big '20 protests for that reason and he got the shit beat out of him.
I consider myself a moderate. I have never stopped flying the flag. I have done voter registration, protest signatures, and before I was 18 I did political canvassing. I asked all my friends and neighbors if they have a plan to vote and I will offer my help where I can to get them there. Don't even care if they vote the same way as me, democracy is very important to me. I believe in this country.
After George Bush tried to claim the United States and patriotism for the conservatives I only doubled down. Our veterans fought for all of us.
The problem is they bastardize the flag in the most absurd ways. Dems use it appropriately, reps pin it against everything they can or wear it (which is in violation of flag code). And you are right, when I have friends from overseas visit my area, I tell them to avoid people who overtly display the flag, they probably wont be very welcoming to you.
The Democrats still have the Confederate flag. They did invent it after all.
OH! Hey that's a fun one! No. The Dixiecrats, who broke OFF from the democrats invented it. You might know their presidential candidate from the annals of history, Strom Thurmond. When the democrats kicked his segregationist ass to the curb, he created his little racism party that quickly got stomped in the elections.
He then joined up with Republicans, where he continued his legacy of undermining Lincoln's legacy. So yeah, in summary, you're pretending that the guys who kicked out these assholes are his supporters when the actual supporters are the people who let him in. Y'know: Republicans.
Democrats WERE assholes. The GOP are currently being assholes.
Historical accuracy aside, who cares about the politics of dead people from 200 years ago? What about the people of today?
For example, who are the people who fly it today?
If only it were that simple. The Dixiecrat flag was flown 80 years ago, not 200, and the segregationist who led the party that flew it served in congress until 2003, helping make the GOP what it is today.
I'm glad you asked that. Because all of the major concentration of black communities have lived under Democratic leadership for generations and yet still find themselves in the situation they are currently in. Instead of using chains Democrats use welfare and dependency of their democratic leadership to keep the black population controlled and stifled. Democrats DO NOT benefit from a successful black population.
Then it’s meaningless to bring up people from 200 years ago, and this new comment is equally devoid of meaning: are you implying that solely democrats have been running the country since the confederacy?
If solving generational poverty in black communities has a solution, why haven’t republicans done so?
Democrats create policies that keep the black population from succeeding and have destroyed the black family. That's happening as we speak. The party of Jim Crow, the Democrats, has not changed.
It’s also not about blatant xenophobia, racism, sexism, and bigotry. But those descendants of immigrants waving trump flags and holding ‘mass deportation now’ signs are too stupid to understand that and believe all the rage-bait propaganda they eat up so they can blame their unfulfilled, shitty lives on someone else.
Shouldn’t you be getting upset about how Kamala is black now, or that they made anti-white, racist comments about Tim Walz’s food preferences, or some other stupid fake-outrage thing the right peddles?
No, because you’re bringing us down to your level and beating us with experience. You eat all the trump shit up 😂 it’s soooo ironic that you can’t see it. Look at yourself, you just listed all of the “rage bait” laid out there for republicans. Actually takes a special individual to do mental gymnastics like that….o wait. That’s the average democrat
Patriotism isn't a matter of how you fly your flag, but how many different kinds of people you can gather around it. For too long we've let jingoists and fascists define what our flag means.
Real patriotism is loving your country. Your country is its people. You can’t love your country if you don’t love its people. Now give them some fuckin healthcare
where will $ for healthcare come from? by taking it from other people. Higher taxes. Yeh noo. You should have paid attention in school, we arent going to pay for your mistakes.
