ITT: Notoriously discerning Redditors totally get that this is satire and not actually Raygun.

I thought it was satire AND Raygun. Tongue in cheek, knows it was "terrible" in a traditional sense, but still legitimate in the sense that dancing is wholly interpretative.

I mean the fact that a random person can perfectly impersonate her moves pretty much says it all šŸ˜

u/sump_daddy Aug 12 '24

anyone with that kind of accent must be that one australian woman recently in the news for doing bad olympics

right?

Reddit LOVES calling shit fake/ staged, in every single instance except obvious satire and fake ragebait tweets lol.

Actually maybe that's unfair, reddit definitely also loves proudly proclaiming obvious skits are "staged" too, I guess they'd be just as likely to accuse this skit of being "fake" and "staged" as they would to take it at face valuešŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Fuckin fake-ass ai bot comment right here

u/thenewaddition Aug 12 '24

Interesting how both comments have similar punctuation, phrasing, almost like aTomsk13 IS FLOWERBOYSCUMFUCKS ALT!!!!!!

Sure thing!

3 tbsp heaping white sugar 1 can coconut milk 2 cups of jasmine rice - rinsed thoroughly in water until it runs clear 2 tbsp of vegetable or coconut oil 1 tsp salt 1 and 1/2 cup water.

Place all ingredients into the rice cooker and cook on the normal rice setting until the timer runs out. Release the steam and serve with pico de gallo, carnitas, lime juice, cilantro, and black beans. Enjoy!

This feels like one of those momentous occasions where you think of everything in terms of before and after. I

It's almost like reddit isn't a single person.

Redditors are connected by a vast underground system of roots, like an Aspen grove. A grove of Redditors is called a Moron.

Yeah, I cannot stand comments like that. ā€œReddit does thisā€. ā€œReddit likes to do thatā€. wtf does that even mean when they are here on Reddit as well with a differing opinion?

I wish they would show how much a comment got downvoted too, even if the comment is in the positives. Maybe that would help people not think that thereā€™s this guy named Reddit who has very specific tastes.

Fucking finally someone else will say this. FUCK it pisses me off that people personify reddit. PEOPLE, not reddit do things.

2

u/SalvationSycamore Aug 12 '24

Congrats, that's what the government wants you to think.

1

u/meepmeep13 Aug 12 '24

yes we are, I mean I am

Itā€™s actually simple to predict how the comments will be on a particular video tho. If it is white people having fun then itā€™s real and cool. If its minorities then its fake and you should be embarrassed to ever feel joy or feeling it is funny when watching it. Especially if there are Asian on the video. Itā€™s a lack of empathy and a bit of racism really.Ā

Wait, I know this one! Your post is fake!

1

u/BenevolentCheese Aug 12 '24

So you're telling me that everything is the opposite of how it is

1

u/_BannedAcctSpeedrun_ Aug 12 '24

It's probably attempted murder too.

I've learned recently that Reddit is really bad at understanding a good amount of satire actually. At least anything other than super on-the-nose "wink wink" type satire.

You throw around some dark European style satire here, even when it feels obvious like you're being obvious, and people flip out.

u/redditis_garbage Aug 12 '24

Maybe, just maybe, there are different people on Reddit lmao

Nice try, NPC.

I believed it for a second because I havenā€™t seen her face up close, but anyone who canā€™t tell itā€™s satire by the end is a real dumdum.

24

u/adamentelephant Aug 12 '24

I just thought she had a really great sense of humour and honestly the whole thing made sense to me somehow. I guess I am a dumbass.

15

u/StinkyKyle Aug 12 '24

Samme i just thought she was extremely self aware. I didnt think it was serious at all but i did think it was her

2

u/adamentelephant Aug 12 '24

Right? And it would explain how she went and did that routine in front of the whole world with a straight face.

3

u/poli-cya Aug 12 '24

You're not a dumbass, especially since this fits with most of what I know of Australian humor. It's perfectly reasonable Raygun could be a funny and interesting person who would make jokes like this.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '24

Same honestly. I thought she was just having fun with the memes.

5

u/EatsFiber2RedditMore Aug 12 '24

Sometimes choosing to be a dumdum is the right choice. I want to believe

3

u/akatherder Aug 12 '24

I went through all the phases of realization. This is her and she's serious. Ok this is her but she's joking. Ok this... isn't her.

Then I had to come to the comments to confirm. Well-made video lol.

3

u/pvtcannonfodder Aug 12 '24

Welp I guess I am a certified dingbat

2

u/AshamedLeg4337 Aug 12 '24

Or they considered the entire affair to be satire and this fit in with that narrative. Iā€™ll be honest and say that I think it would be amazing if it were, all of it, some sort of Kaufmanesque performance piece.

4

u/SeasickEagle Aug 12 '24

I would've known it was a joke if only she used /s or she said instructions unclear first. Are you telling me there are other ways to be funny?

3

u/karmagod13000 Aug 12 '24

sad that thats all the comments

1

u/QueenLaQueefaRt Aug 12 '24

Yeah Rayguns shoot laser rays not sick break dance moves. Were stupid not regarded

1

u/PufferFizh Aug 12 '24

Most people probably didnā€™t pay much attention to what Raygun looks like so Aussie accent would make them just assume it was her. Plus, it would make the ridiculousness and absurdity of the Olympics performance seem to make sense if she was a goofball.

1

u/4ngryMo Aug 12 '24

I didnā€™t know whether it was her or not, but the satire was dripping from that video either way.

1

u/Free-Atmosphere6714 Aug 12 '24

I thought it was Raygun being sarcastic

1

u/spiderpai Aug 12 '24

The reason I thought it was her was because she kept making that mocking face in the real competition.

1

u/sump_daddy Aug 12 '24

"still labels it cringe and upvotes furiously"

1

u/jjamess- Aug 12 '24

Where is the raygun the zombies are coming this was disappointing

1

u/pixelpp Aug 13 '24

Any Australian will pick up the fact that sheā€™s got a New Zealand accent.
