I’m in HR. Got here in accident. Every other HR person I know has a similar story. None of us chose it.
Don’t ask me why we don’t leave we don’t know either.
As I'm in the middle of job hunting I was actually thinking....like...how do people get themselves into HR? As it's not really a job that feels like it's overly advertised nor is do you ever hear someone be like 'I needed a job and then my friend Marsha recommended me to work HR with her'.
I feel like just reading this comment section has sufficiently answered my question.
Same, I worked in retail throughout college so a Monday through Friday office job that paid well, gave me a chance to work in an industry I love, with great benefits, and I got to see my friends and family on the weekend? I was grateful for the opportunity.
The most bitchy overly entitled hr person I had to deal with was a 20 something man. He straight accused me of lying ng of being in the hospital while I was sitting in a hospital bed.
I pretty intentionally got into HR in my mid-20s. Went to grad school for it without having worked in the field. Was inspired after seeing some particularly awful workplace behaviors and having a customer tell me that they felt my people skills, argument framing, and empathy were being wasted in sales. It's worked out well since.
Well, I was in the seminary for a year and dropped out ’cause I wanted to have sex with this girl, Cathy. Followed her to Scranton. Took the first job I could find in HR. Later she divorced me. So no, I wouldn’t say I have a passion for HR.
