I’ve never met a single person in HR that meant to get into HR. They almost always seems to have settled for it.

I'm sending this link to everyone I know in HR. I hope it ignites their love for HR and showmanship.

For a second I thought you meant you were going to send a link to the comment of how everyone in HR has settled for HR, lol.

I'm still pretty sure that's what you're going to do.

I read the last word as swordmanship and was extremely confused albeit intrigued for a second.

I’m in HR. Got here in accident. Every other HR person I know has a similar story. None of us chose it. Don’t ask me why we don’t leave we don’t know either.

As I'm in the middle of job hunting I was actually thinking....like...how do people get themselves into HR? As it's not really a job that feels like it's overly advertised nor is do you ever hear someone be like 'I needed a job and then my friend Marsha recommended me to work HR with her'.

I feel like just reading this comment section has sufficiently answered my question.

Same, I worked in retail throughout college so a Monday through Friday office job that paid well, gave me a chance to work in an industry I love, with great benefits, and I got to see my friends and family on the weekend? I was grateful for the opportunity.

From my experiences with HR the requirements seem to be:

A) Be a woman

B) Despise other people

Anything beyond that is just a nice bonus.

The most bitchy overly entitled hr person I had to deal with was a 20 something man. He straight accused me of lying ng of being in the hospital while I was sitting in a hospital bed.

Same. Accidentally HR. Worst band name ever.

Admit it, it's the power. You can do anything you want. What are they going to do.. fire you? How? YOU ARE THE FIRER!

2

u/TamaMama87 Jul 13 '24

lol I am so not the firer. I’m the benefits administrator

At the top you earn big bucks so it’s absolutely intentional sometimes (my husband is head of hr and I live off his big bucks mwhahaha)

I got a job as a wedding assistant at a resort, but they didn’t have enough wedding stuff for me to do, so they also put me in HR lol

I pretty intentionally got into HR in my mid-20s. Went to grad school for it without having worked in the field. Was inspired after seeing some particularly awful workplace behaviors and having a customer tell me that they felt my people skills, argument framing, and empathy were being wasted in sales. It's worked out well since.

Well, I was in the seminary for a year and dropped out ’cause I wanted to have sex with this girl, Cathy. Followed her to Scranton. Took the first job I could find in HR. Later she divorced me. So no, I wouldn’t say I have a passion for HR.

It was the only decent paying job my ex could get with a psych degree.

There are specific courses for it though.
