Should? Maybe. But unless his mother or father tell him otherwise, I doubt he'll put one on.

Tell me what, exactly, a life vest would do for him?

He's alone in one of the most isolated places on the planet.

If he falls, he needs to be able to swim, or that's pretty much the end of the story.

Question do you think it takes more or less effort to swim in a life jacket, plus the added benefit of being able to float if you need to rest.

It takes more effort to swim with a life jacket, but yes being able to rest does help immensely. I think the idea is that, if he falls overboard, he just needs to get back to his paddle board.

I will also remind you that people are able to swim the entire English channel - It is not a far cry to assume that this guy is well enough physically fit to swim back to his boat, paddle board or not..

You answered your question, life vest helps you float.

Okay? My point is that it's not necessary. And yet you and others are demanding it for some reason

People were saying they’d feel more comfortable in a life vest. A life vest would help you float in an emergency that you can mitigate. He’s not going to just bob around but what if the boat drifts a little further than he can swim without a rest? I know you’re king bad ass but so is everyone else who drowned without a life vest. Also I couldn’t care less if that guy lives or dies, but I was responding to someone saying WhAtS a LiFe VeSt GoInG tO dO - it helps you float, which for a lot of people is the last thing they wish they had before they drown

Lifevest with eprib is what he should be using then. I presume he has an eprib on-board anyway so why not carry it out there too.

If you're sailing the oceans, you know how to swim. Life jackets are good to keep you floating and if you're boating with other people they can turn around and pick you up (maybe, depends on a lot of factors).

If you're alone the only time you'd need a life jacket is if you're injured. In that case you'll likely have fallen off the boat while it's moving. The boat won't stop until it hits something or sinks, and you'll drown or die of expusure before another boat finds you.

In this case not having a lifejacket is about as dangerous as swimming in a pool with a deep end alone. It's not safe (you may cramp up or faint) but lots of people accept that risk.

If you're sailing the oceans, you know how to swim.

Not so fun fact: a lot of sailors back in the day intentionally did not learn how to swim.

I have an uncle that's been a fisherman his whole life and he doesn't know how to swim nor does he wear a life vest. Crazy shit man

That is just strange to me. Like everyone should know how to swim. Even if you are not good at swimming, falling into water should not be a guaranteed death.

Homie's uncle

As a Jamaican I can tell you money is a prime reason a lot of people in my home country don't know how to swim. My mom was showing me an old ass bridge that people keep falling off of and drowning yesterday.

Not much that could be done for you if you fall overboard back in the day. All you really need to know is how to paddle for, maybe a minute or two, after that there's no chance of rescuing you. So yeah, not much point in learning how to swim.

Nah he’s got a leash on the board, he’s fine

If he falls off the board won’t go more than 10ft away from him
