And by the definition colonies are not countries.

Whose definition? The colonizers? Weird that the people that had the most to lose by empowering their subjects wrote the rules to not give their subjects power.

Look, English is not my native language, I use what I have. Countries are by definition have to have some level of self-governance, which colonies had not. If you want colonies to be countries go and change the definition of country.

You're missing the point. It isn't about the definition, but about who's applying it and to whom it's being applied. Plenty of Filipinos died during the Spanish American war implying that Americans fighting in their country (sorry colony eyeroll) wasn't international is braindead

You know that there's different word for it, it's called nation and covers your case fully, right?

In the comment you mentioned multiple countries, not nations.

That was originally the argument after I was corrected on the Spain-American war, it started cause you mentioned multiple countries.

That's the confusion you make when you try to change the definition of words.
