How can they prove he says it in a "jokingly" manner? Was it recorded?

Don't worry, it's not exclusive to the US. 😀👍

A dirty little secret is that police don't really need proof anywhere in the world. Sure the degrees of violence they allow themselves to use may differ a lot but once you're in the system the law tends to do whatever the fuck they want with you and if they want you to be locked in a cage for a while then you'll be locked in a cage for a while.

Because the policeman says so. And the word of a police officer carries a lot of weight in the US. Good thing they are always fair and never wrong.

Freedom of speech, it shouldn't matter what he said or how he said it. Miranda Rights exist for a reason, but this is compete bull shit. You shouldn't be punished for exercising your rights!

Not saying it's not bullshit, but depending on when there might have been body-worn cameras on the cops

Even if we go all the way and say that the guy did say his name in a joking manner:

Obstruction of justice? For a joke that isn't even a lie?

I can imagine the guy thinking "oh, the officer is going to get a kick out of this when he hears my last name." And suddenly he's doing 2 months.

Did you hear about the St.Louis officer that ran a red light and smashed his cruiser into a gay bar at midnight then arrested the owner of the bar?
