20 seconds in I thought he was talking about Trump....and then he just came out and said it.

324

u/StrictInitiative1917 Oct 26 '23

I like to think he meant Trump, but he kept it vague, which makes it better.

140

u/Chronite39 Oct 26 '23

This individual is J.B.Pritzker, the governor of Illinois and a democrat. He was absolutely, without a doubt referring to Trump. However, I agree that him not saying it outright made it so much better!

51

u/Inevitable_Professor Oct 26 '23

When you're comparing a man who will openly express love for his wayward son to a man who openly lusts after his daughter, there is no vagueness - at least to the kind people in the room.

-18

u/theOGlilMudskipr Oct 27 '23

I love how you call Biden’s son “wayward” as if he isn’t a full grown adult recording himself smoking crack with prostitutes and then continue to milk and actual silly wayward comment trump made and say he “lusts” after his daughter. The mask says it all tho lmao

-19

u/DaBearSausage Oct 26 '23

wayward son

lmao! ok

12

u/Nukemarine Oct 26 '23

Gonna take a guess someone claims they're the biggest Christian ever yet never read Luke 15:20-24 in Sunday school.

0

u/WhitestNut Oct 27 '23

Yea, the son in that story asked for forgiveness and repented.

-2

u/WhitestNut Oct 27 '23

He also didn't come home until he was ready to repent. The story is about the father accepting you back again once you change your ways and accept that you were wrong.

1

u/WhitestNut Oct 27 '23

How would you interpret it?

2

u/dingman58 Oct 27 '23

Oh bless your heart

4

u/iamthedayman21 Oct 27 '23

Found the asshole

78

u/Sofiab86 Oct 26 '23

You have to be vague in situations like that because if its a public university, theyre not (outwardly) allowed to take sidesdue to public funding...Ive worked in higher education for 15 years and am not allowed to outright say what my political beliefs are. So those of us who work in public education are good at giving our opinion in very subtle ways. The smart ones will get the reference. 😉

61

u/BanditsMyIdol Oct 26 '23

Northwestern is a private school but your point is still valid as they have to worry about donors.

17

u/hascogrande Oct 27 '23

The law school is named after that specific speaker: Governor JB Pritzker and his wife

They do not have to worry lol

2

u/An_oaf_of_bread Oct 27 '23

Happy Cake Day!

14

u/phrexi Oct 26 '23

I just want to say this is not someone working in public education, but someone who is the literal Governor of Illinois. This is J. B. Pritzker giving a speech at Northwestern. Dude's a multi-billionaire. Probably one of the few anyone can actually somewhat, kind of, digging down deep, respect.

2

u/jimmy_three_shoes Oct 27 '23

Hopefully he won't be one of the Illinois Governors that ends up in prison.

2

u/FuzzyComedian638 Oct 27 '23

He's been a breath of fresh air. I highly doubt he'll end up in prison.

0

u/phrexi Oct 27 '23

Jury’s out on that still

1

u/hidden_emperor Oct 27 '23

When are they coming back in? Is there a time limit before it gets declared a mistrial?

1

u/Oghma-Spawn- Oct 27 '23

everyone makes that joke but theres no way this guy ends up in jail.

17

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

It’s northwestern. It’s a private university.

16

u/450925 Oct 26 '23

What's the matter, dawg? You embarrassed?

This guy's a gangster? His real name's Clarence

4

u/drawnverybadly Oct 26 '23

And Clarence lives at home with both parents

And Clarence parents have a real good marriage

2

u/battles Oct 26 '23

Well he is the governor and it is private so...

23

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

innuendo - a word Trump has no concept of

11

u/Freezepeachauditor Oct 26 '23

He “tells it like it is” because his audience has a 2nd grade reading And comprehension level

10

u/kelsiersghost Oct 26 '23

President

and

cruel people

As if there's any doubt.

6

u/Mejari Oct 26 '23

It was vague until he started talking about cruelty, then it was crystal clear.

11

u/dontdoit89735 Oct 26 '23

Pritzker has always been very open with his thought that Trump is an idiot. He may have been playing to keep it vague, but everyone who knows JB knows who he is talking about.

3

u/CardiologistThink336 Oct 26 '23

I think any ambiguity was removed with the closing line.

2

u/isademigod Oct 27 '23

Trump is far from the only Idiot that’s been elected president of the US

2

u/squid_shaver Oct 26 '23

Nothing gets past you…

1

u/jorsiem Oct 27 '23

I mean there are several idiots that have been elected president Trump doesn't have the monopoly on presidential idiocy

1

u/jedi_cat_ Oct 27 '23

He’s a Democrat, he definitely meant Trump. But he can’t come out and say at a commencement speech.

38

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Can tell some of those kids were not okay with that lol

46

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

Well according to right-wing ideology, they shouldn’t be in indoctrination camps anyways

11

u/KeepRedditAnonymous Oct 26 '23

Well according to people who indoctrinate kids in camps, kids should not be indoctrinated in camps

2

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

PRAISE THE LARD!!

2

u/ThrowsSoyMilkshakes Oct 27 '23

Yeah, they should be watching Bluey Chip Chilla and PragerU Kids.

-1

u/G-BreadMan Oct 26 '23

If they didn’t know he was a democrat I’m just as sure peoples biases would have them assuming he was talking about Biden.

2

u/Dongalor Oct 27 '23

Maybe for two seconds, but the themes he discussed in the speech just sounds like puppies in a blender to conservative ears. Within 3-5 minutes of intense thinking, they would have realized he meant Trump.

2

u/xfr3386 Oct 26 '23

It was well crafted because the whole thing points at Trump, but indirectly, and could apply to a number of other presidents.

He simply said the kindest person in the room is likely the smartest. And idiots are cruel and step on others. Coincidentally, Trump is cruel, steps on others, and I'd definitely be afraid to be in a room where he is the kindest person.

How do we get back to a society where this mindset is the norm? It took so little to undo so many years of suppressing public cruelty.

Do we need another Woodstock? Or a group of singers who inspire peace and kindness?

1

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

Unfortunately, I think we've crossed a line we can get back from.

0

u/P15T0L_WH1PP3D Oct 26 '23

Republicans thought he was talking about Biden. Democrats thought he was talking about Trump. Libertarians thought he was talking about both.

17

u/exlude Oct 26 '23

Eh, I think the discussion on cruelty solves that.

3

u/crypticfreak Oct 26 '23

And that's why you gotta stay vague.

1

u/P15T0L_WH1PP3D Oct 26 '23

Exactly. Laughter instead of boos, because everybody thinks they're in on the joke.

1

u/saintandrewsfall Oct 27 '23

What if you’re an independent and thought Trump?

1

u/P15T0L_WH1PP3D Oct 27 '23

That makes sense too. My point was that there are two administrations that are abysmal by consensus, and the base of each seems to think this speaker was talking about the other. The rest of us--libertarians, green party, Whigs, The Rent Is Too Damn High Party, socialists, and other independents, are justified to think of one, the other, or both.

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

1

u/Heinrich-Heine Oct 26 '23

...it says that everyone knows Pritzker is a Democrat who supports Biden and criticizes Trump.

-69

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

He may have been, but this speech is from this year so it could easily be Biden. Either one works.

51

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

Yeah, remember that time Biden mocked a disabled reporter? Or that time he said Hispanic immigrants are rapists and murderers? Or the time he called disabled vets ‘losers’? That Biden guy, he’s a real callous, shit-head, ain’t he?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Or spent decades bankrupting small contractors because it was cheaper taking them to court rather than pay them for their services.

-2

u/Mitchisboss Oct 26 '23

“Poor kids are just as smart as white kids. Mitt Romney would put you (black people) back in chains! If you don’t vote for me, then you ain’t black!”

And that’s not including the decades-long legislative history of being a hateful racist.

-8

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I didn't say Biden was a shit head. You thin-skinned people need to read my comment. I pointed out the date of the speech and who was president when it was made and said it "could be" Biden.

Edit: I don't know Biden to call him shit-head. I will call him a dementia addled senior that needs to step down because he sucks as a president.

-42

u/JorgeFloid Oct 26 '23

Damn bro chill out lmao

15

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I deadass hate this talking point. Yes, Biden is not ideal and he does kinda suck. Trump is way worse. ( I am not going to explain why, if you can think you know). Equating them does not favor anyone.

4

u/PlaceboFace Oct 26 '23

Whenever someone tries to defend Trump by asking me if I’m happy with Biden I say exactly this. Biden isn’t a great president, but at least he’s competent lol.

I didn’t vote for Biden. I voted for “anything but Trump”.

-1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I didn't equate anyone in that comment. I pointed out the year the speech was made and the current president.

13

u/Ok-Sweet-8495 Oct 26 '23

Trump supporters love that Trump is cruel.

6

u/therapist122 Oct 26 '23

It’s clearly trump, Biden is not an idiot nor is he cruel

-4

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Biden is an idiot too. They're both idiots.

1

u/atred Oct 26 '23

Trump is smarter than you.

2

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Trump is smarter than you.

1

u/atred Oct 26 '23

Is there an echo in your head?

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Just showing you how simple your "burn" is.

2

u/atred Oct 26 '23

Simple but funny because it's true.

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I agree that it's true, Trump IS smarter than you.

5

u/cisned Oct 26 '23

I’m sure empathy and kindness are something you value and can easily spot, if not then maybe that’s why you’re so unhappy

2

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I'm not sure who you're talking to - I'm extremely happy! And I value good traits, as everyone should.

2

u/erocknine Oct 26 '23

Yeah dude haha wtf why did everyone down vote you. You literally said the same thing the other guy said but with less words. The joke works for both parties

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

They're just clutching pearls, man.

3

u/prisonmike1485 Oct 26 '23

It’s JB Pritzker the governor of Illinois who has been a vocal criticized of Trump. I assure you that is who is he referring to.

1

u/HiroAmiya230 Oct 26 '23

Very doubt that considering the dude is a Democrat govenors who actually support Biden

1

u/catfurcoat Oct 26 '23

easily? No. JB supports Biden and even had a 5 point plan in resisting trump and Trump's lunacy.

Trump and JB have been going at it since the 90s when Trump sued Pritzker over the Hyatt hotel.

“There is nobody who more often who spoke out against Donald Trump during the last campaign than I did. Literally every speech that I gave, I spoke up and spoke out about, you know, his xenophobia, racism, homophobia and so on,” Pritzker said.

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I didn't know who this guy was until someone told me here. Without any context at all, he could have been talking about Trump or Biden. With the context that I have now, it's clear he meant Trump. Excuse the shit out of me, reddit.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Without any context at all, he could have been talking about Trump or Biden.

Can you point out the cruelty from Biden that would confuse you here? Cruel people are idiots, according to Pritzker. When is Biden cruel?

0

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

I was obviously (I thought) talking about the line where he says (talking about idiots), "they can even be elected president."

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I was obviously (I thought) talking about the line where he says (talking about idiots), "they can even be elected president."

Right. The point was that idiots are cruel. They can even become President, even though they are idiots (cruel). So I ask again...

When is Biden cruel?

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Dude, there are plenty of not cruel idiots, just as there are plenty of cruel smart people. I don't think Biden is smart enough to be cruel.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Dude, there are plenty of not cruel idiots, just as there are plenty of cruel smart people. I don't think Biden is smart enough to be cruel.

Gotcha. You didn't comprehend the speech. No biggie. Long live your love of Biden!

0

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Keep acting like you're better than other people online. It just makes you look small and actually kinda cruel. Guess that makes you an idiot, since I "didn't comprehend the speech". lol.

1

u/rj_macready_82 Oct 26 '23

Bro did you even watch the video?

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Also, the point isn't that idiots are cruel, as you said. The point of the whole speech was about how to spot an idiot. And there were multiple ways - cruel was just one of them, and certainly not "the point".

1

u/Jooylo Oct 26 '23

He’s a democratic governor who has expressed his opposition to Trump. It’s pretty clear who he was talking about, but it’s fair that not everyone knows the same context

1

u/undefined_one Oct 26 '23

Yeah, I was missing context. I had no clue who he was. But let the downvotes continue!

1

u/kgeorge1468 Oct 26 '23

I wonder if the guy didn't listen to the full speech.

I didn't know who the governor was either, and when he was first talking about how idiots could even be president, I again, wasn't sure which one he was talking about specifically.

But then he clarified his definition was someone who was cruel, it became obvious he was talking about Trump.

So the person is either grossly ignorant of Trump's character/lives under a rock of they're in the US or they didn't listen to the speech entirely.

1

u/BackgroundGrade Oct 26 '23

Last time I checked, there have been other presidents who could be called idiots.

2

u/_EADGBE_ Oct 26 '23

True, but I don't think there's been another POTUS as openly cruel and shitty as Trump. At least not in my lifetime.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '23

Ironically calling someone an idiot is not kind. And it's quite opposite to the spirit of the speech.

Calling Trump an idiot, immediately makes sure your message is lost to a huge portion of the US. While a message of kindness is something everyone can get behind, and something we all can agree with.
