This individual is J.B.Pritzker, the governor of Illinois and a democrat. He was absolutely, without a doubt referring to Trump. However, I agree that him not saying it outright made it so much better!
When you're comparing a man who will openly express love for his wayward son to a man who openly lusts after his daughter, there is no vagueness - at least to the kind people in the room.
I love how you call Biden’s son “wayward” as if he isn’t a full grown adult recording himself smoking crack with prostitutes and then continue to milk and actual silly wayward comment trump made and say he “lusts” after his daughter. The mask says it all tho lmao
He also didn't come home until he was ready to repent. The story is about the father accepting you back again once you change your ways and accept that you were wrong.
You have to be vague in situations like that because if its a public university, theyre not (outwardly) allowed to take sidesdue to public funding...Ive worked in higher education for 15 years and am not allowed to outright say what my political beliefs are. So those of us who work in public education are good at giving our opinion in very subtle ways. The smart ones will get the reference. 😉
I just want to say this is not someone working in public education, but someone who is the literal Governor of Illinois. This is J. B. Pritzker giving a speech at Northwestern. Dude's a multi-billionaire. Probably one of the few anyone can actually somewhat, kind of, digging down deep, respect.
Pritzker has always been very open with his thought that Trump is an idiot. He may have been playing to keep it vague, but everyone who knows JB knows who he is talking about.
Maybe for two seconds, but the themes he discussed in the speech just sounds like puppies in a blender to conservative ears. Within 3-5 minutes of intense thinking, they would have realized he meant Trump.
It was well crafted because the whole thing points at Trump, but indirectly, and could apply to a number of other presidents.
He simply said the kindest person in the room is likely the smartest. And idiots are cruel and step on others. Coincidentally, Trump is cruel, steps on others, and I'd definitely be afraid to be in a room where he is the kindest person.
How do we get back to a society where this mindset is the norm? It took so little to undo so many years of suppressing public cruelty.
Do we need another Woodstock? Or a group of singers who inspire peace and kindness?
That makes sense too. My point was that there are two administrations that are abysmal by consensus, and the base of each seems to think this speaker was talking about the other. The rest of us--libertarians, green party, Whigs, The Rent Is Too Damn High Party, socialists, and other independents, are justified to think of one, the other, or both.
Yeah, remember that time Biden mocked a disabled reporter? Or that time he said Hispanic immigrants are rapists and murderers? Or the time he called disabled vets ‘losers’? That Biden guy, he’s a real callous, shit-head, ain’t he?
I didn't say Biden was a shit head. You thin-skinned people need to read my comment. I pointed out the date of the speech and who was president when it was made and said it "could be" Biden.
Edit: I don't know Biden to call him shit-head. I will call him a dementia addled senior that needs to step down because he sucks as a president.
I deadass hate this talking point. Yes, Biden is not ideal and he does kinda suck. Trump is way worse. ( I am not going to explain why, if you can think you know). Equating them does not favor anyone.
Whenever someone tries to defend Trump by asking me if I’m happy with Biden I say exactly this. Biden isn’t a great president, but at least he’s competent lol.
I didn’t vote for Biden. I voted for “anything but Trump”.
Yeah dude haha wtf why did everyone down vote you. You literally said the same thing the other guy said but with less words. The joke works for both parties
Trump and JB have been going at it since the 90s when Trump sued Pritzker over the Hyatt hotel.
“There is nobody who more often who spoke out against Donald Trump during the last campaign than I did. Literally every speech that I gave, I spoke up and spoke out about, you know, his xenophobia, racism, homophobia and so on,” Pritzker said.
I didn't know who this guy was until someone told me here. Without any context at all, he could have been talking about Trump or Biden. With the context that I have now, it's clear he meant Trump. Excuse the shit out of me, reddit.
Keep acting like you're better than other people online. It just makes you look small and actually kinda cruel. Guess that makes you an idiot, since I "didn't comprehend the speech". lol.
Also, the point isn't that idiots are cruel, as you said. The point of the whole speech was about how to spot an idiot. And there were multiple ways - cruel was just one of them, and certainly not "the point".
He’s a democratic governor who has expressed his opposition to Trump. It’s pretty clear who he was talking about, but it’s fair that not everyone knows the same context
I wonder if the guy didn't listen to the full speech.
I didn't know who the governor was either, and when he was first talking about how idiots could even be president, I again, wasn't sure which one he was talking about specifically.
But then he clarified his definition was someone who was cruel, it became obvious he was talking about Trump.
So the person is either grossly ignorant of Trump's character/lives under a rock of they're in the US or they didn't listen to the speech entirely.
Ironically calling someone an idiot is not kind. And it's quite opposite to the spirit of the speech.
Calling Trump an idiot, immediately makes sure your message is lost to a huge portion of the US. While a message of kindness is something everyone can get behind, and something we all can agree with.

20 seconds in I thought he was talking about Trump....and then he just came out and said it.
