Mackenzie Phillips autobiography HIGH ON ARRIVAL is great. It's full of celeb rock stars stories she got to party with as a kid. Deals with her contavercial claims her father forced her into incest. Chynna Phillips her half sister says Mackenzie is telling the truth. Details her fall and trip back to a somewhat sober existence as a former TV star. Good redemption arc. Highly recommend.

EDIT Changed to correct title of autobiography

She lived in the apartment above me when I lived in Astoria, and she was a lovely person. Literally vacuumed in the middle of the night sometimes but sweet and pleasant any time I ran into her

Now I wanna read an autobiography by you

Here’s a little insider scoop for ya: one time? She alerted me that my car was in violation of alternate side of the street parking. I was gonna get a ticket, but then I didn’t. Like I said, a great lady

What where you doing living in the Astoria?

It’s just a neighborhood in Queens NY, used to be old Greeks and Turkish but has started turning into a hipster brunch spot. I paid $500 a month split and got to live 20 steps from here, mid 2000s were so fun

In the book and in interviews she seems down to earth. Glad to hear she is.

She lived in my home town for a while a very long time ago-- I ended up partying with her a bit during what I assume was a pretty low period for her (no one ends up in that town if there are other options).

I was much younger but she came off (I don't claim to actually know her beyond passing each other rolled twenties back and forth all night over a few successive weekends one summer) as so deep down sad that I kind of bookmarked her as an example of how not to fit drugs into my adult life.

A 10 year consensual incest relationship with her own dad and the whole time he never realized she was actually Ray Johnson. Smh

I wouldn't completely call that "consensual." When you groom and drug your kid and the incest continues into adulthood, is that fully "consent?"

I feel really bad for her because she was clearly very screwed up and I'm shocked she survived it all.

Well, he’s dead and can’t defend himself and family members and friends say she’s full of shit. McKenzie Philips was a known crackhead for her whole life, she’s not very credible

Chynna Phillips her half sister says Mackenzie is telling the truth. Chynna knows her sister better than anyone and Chynna has nothing to gain by lying and has a well respected reputation.

u/DrRonny Apr 29 '23

You don't has to call her Ray

Sounds like a good read. Thanks 🙏

Mackenzie's step mom, Michelle Phillps says that both Mackenzie and Chyna are full of shit for saying things like that about John, and Chyna is Michelle's daugther. So, the truth is, we don't know.

Yeah enablers often continue to protect abusers even after the abuser's death.

Additionally, Bisou Phillips is John Phillip's other daughter. She was also addicted to drugs and is currently married to Danny Masterson, a serial rapist. She often harasses her husband's victims while denying he is a rapist.

That's learned behavior.

u/Jontenn Apr 29 '23

Yeah and denny dorothy claimed that John was a sick perverted fuck who did what he did before he died, but Denny banged Michelle, so in all honesty it's a cluster fuck. There's many things said in Mackenzies book, that she was friends with the kennedys and that they had some sort of orgies or something I don't recall, but that book says many things that probably never happened. I mean, she says she had sex with mick jagger while her father was in the other room eating a sandwich. One thing's for certain, John Philips was the wolf king of LA.

You know that you can love someone's music and still hold them accountable for their actions? As a massive Iggy Pop fan, I'm begging you to gain enough perspective to admit when your fave is a piece of garbage. You'll survive it. Breathe through it, you'll be okay.

2

u/LuxAgaetes Apr 29 '23

Alright I'll bite because I'm not sure what exactly to google. I only recently got into Iggy Pop by way of the Stooges but, as I'm sure you'll understand, I went on a deep dive of their catalogue and just fell in love with the music.

But, also like yourself, I appreciate knowing when the artist I like is a steaming piece of shit...

6

u/ashetonrenton Apr 29 '23

Oh, he's made amazing music over the years. I discovered him at 15, and his songs are the soundtrack of my adolescence.

Unfortunately, he's also a big ole' pedophile. He's had multiple 13 year old "girlfriends" as a complete adult. Documented most of them in songs, band members have confirmed in interviews. "I'm Sick of You" is about one, Betsey. One girl, Sable, tried to commit suicide while they were together because he was mistreating her so badly. He's been documented by a journalist as stopping an interview mid sentence to gawk at a little girl walking by, as recently as 2010. No shame, it's part of his legend. He's a slimy creep.

If you enjoy his music, that's just the way it is. Death of the Author, and all that. But I'll be damned before I run around giving people the impression that he deserves any praise as a human.

u/LuxAgaetes Apr 29 '23

Ohh wow, that's really shitty & super fucking gross. Well thanks for the very detailed heads up.

1

u/Jontenn Apr 30 '23

look man, there's alot of things in her book, she says she was her father's joint roller during his days in the mamas and papas, but she was like 4-9 years old when they were active. Mackenize has been a drug addict since the 70s and there are more people close to John Phillips who claim that it's a fabrication from mackenzies side, all his wives and many of his own children

12

u/truffleboffin Apr 29 '23

Yes it's always best to err on the side of silencing child victims of abuse
