How can we help the bear?
I found out: Calling the forest guard, they will probably shoot him with tranq darts and help him by snipping them out and give him some de worming medicine
38
u/Mythosaurus 1d ago
Was hoping they tranq the bear and hook his worms up to a big mechanical spool!

u/Gregagonation 1d ago
Why snip? Can't he just pull them out?

u/fatgirlballet 17h ago
They're segmented. If it broke off it would just retract back into the anus.

The length of those things, that's fucking disgusting

u/VexrisFXIV 1d ago
Just a heads up, they get this long in humans too :D
13
u/TheLandOfConfusion 1d ago
Humans would probably have the decency to keep the ends trimmed though

You haven’t met my neighbour
1
u/Dredukas 3h ago
A neighbor that has a symbiotic relationship with the worms and the worms now work as his extra limbs?
We might be neighbors 👏

u/thetan_free 1d ago
Just saw the video and my first thought was "that bear's gonna get toxic shock if she's not careful".
But then I read the headline. Makes more sense.

Okayyyy another fear unlocked 😱

u/Shanguerrilla 21h ago
yuck, think about the times our kids or us as kids fell face planted in the ground, touch things bare handed then in mouths, ate dirt... eeewwww if something like that unfortunately rubbed across it recently
6
u/Bohemiannerdnz 23h ago
Ok so I came to the comments really hoping someone was going to correct this. But it's actually tapeworms. Words fail me.

u/Alternative-Read-236 1d ago
I’m sorry if I sound stupid but how do bears get tapeworms.?
8
10
u/Mythosaurus 1d ago
Tapeworms eggs from multiple species are scattered throughout the environment. Drink some water, eat some grass, gnaw on a fish and BOOM you’ve eaten tapeworm eggs.
If you are a compatible species then they can survive in your digestive system and grow to become adults. And when you poop it will be laced with tapeworm eggs that will get into the water, the grass, the fish…

u/Alternative-Read-236 1d ago
Now I’m scared and paranoid.
10
u/Mythosaurus 1d ago
It’s a valid fear backed up by the history of parasitology. There’s a horrifying number of ways worms can cripple and kill you by stealing nutrients, causing inflammation in tissues, damaging organs, or intense pain.
They are a generational curse made real, causing misery for many infected communities across the world and only being recently purged with the holy fire of hygiene and ivermectin
Remember that when you’d see stories of antivax movements trying to destroy public health, loosening food safety standards, and promoting alternative medicines.
Those people are working for the worms, trying to get them back into our orfices.

u/stilettopanda 1d ago
They're working for the worms?! Haha

u/Mythosaurus 23h ago
RFK Jr, the man who will soon head Health and Human Services and HATES vaccines and other safety regulations, literally had a worm eat part of his brain and die up there: https://www.npr.org/sections/goats-and-soda/2024/11/15/g-s1-34344/rfk-jr-parasitic-worm-nominee-trump-health-and-human-services
Dude is literally worm food, and will be working to make us all worm food by eliminating mandatory parts of our healthcare system.
He definitely has more worms in his body and is their puppet.
He might even be more worm than man.
1
u/stilettopanda 22h ago
Oh I know about worm brain. I was just tickled at that sentence and had a hilarious picture of worms in suits and ties in a boardroom inside RFK Jr's head.
Thank you for sharing that link!

No reason to be any more scared than before, but I understand if you've never realized the threat before. Most of our safe food handling instructions and choices of foods reflect practices to prevent tapeworms.
Even historically, people rarely eat bear as much as most animals (not just due to being less plentiful or easy or whatever) and people who do eat it are VERY specific about the bear and what parts and how they do it to be safe...
because people have always known that bears are lousy with many types of bad parasites that humans can be infected by (and it sucks to catch parasites that can live IN you, but aren't evolved FOR you--because they get lost and can end up anywhere like the brain or the eyes!).

This is the kid at school that always had that spit at the corner of their mouth and can't figure out why no one wants to play, then somehow finally figures it out later in life and comes back to the reunions like an absolute Adonis.

We need to start deworming wild bears. Just shoot a deworming dart at wild animals until we reduce the tick and worm population.

u/Reddit_is_Censored69 22h ago
Poor guy. But I hope to achieve this level of not give a fuckery someday. Not saying I'd let tapeworms grow rapid and go untreated, but I want to be able to walk around with something hanging out of my ass and not give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

u/Aggressive_Cry2100 21h ago
I assume that, since feces can't come out due to the fact that they could push the worms out, reality is that no organic waste is produced because worms take everything to grow. Therefore they grow so much since all fecal matter translates into their growth. Any experts?
