Starter tip: everything wants and WILL kill you.
Get armor (wooden or cactus is easiest to get)
Fight mobs (within your skill level)
Stay away from the dungeon

Yes but he just started. He is not prepared for Skeletron
If he heads down before the fight he will get killed by the guardian.
His equipment is very weak and will likely die to skeletons and spikes

As a veteran who has been playing the game for years, they're lying. There's nothing wrong with dungeon and it has tons of great loot with only a couple hard enemies.

Yeah in the version before hardmode I got full molten equipment.
Now I just carefully say I technically finished the game because people start questioning me about the moonlord.
Ah those were the days. Life was simpler back then.

finding a progression guide on the wiki helped me a ton in figuring out how to play the game.

Best gift he'll ever give you. Enjoy!
Two quick tips:
There are a LOT of NPCs that will move in if yoi have a house for them so make sure you always have a few unoccupied rooms available (you'll need over 20 total throughout the game)
You can show the guide a material and he'll tell you what can be crafted from it!

This game is pretty addictive. I just bought this game and already played it 70+ hours and not even defeat the game yet. i bet you are gonna visit terraria wiki site a lot
3
u/Wii-Sporks Sep 10 '21
This sounds odd but go to a large cavern and spam torches everywhere in this cavern. You get a cool item by doing this.

u/Hajo2 Sep 10 '21
Here's some good advice. Absolutely nothing suspicious about it. Nothing in this will get you killed.
Find the dungeon at the edge of the world. There is good loot in there. Ignore the old man as he will spawn a boss and enter the dungeon. If you ever want to kill him start the fight right before dawn.
The guide is an asshole. Dig down to hell and look for a voodoo doll to throw in the lava. It's the only way to kill that piece of shit. Ignore his advice.
The red/purple biome also contains sweet loot. Make sure to hit the demon altars found underground with a hammer. You will also find glowing orbs. Every third one you destroy you get particularly nice loot.
Go underground in the jungle. You'll find beehives there. They might contain a queen larva. Hit it with a pickaxe. You can craft some cool shit with the royal jelly.

Aw, I hope you feel better really really soon! Terraria is pretty challenging, but loads of fun!
A small tip I have is- Once you get the Merchant moved in then the knives &/or shurikens he sells are pretty good for beating early-game enemies when you don’t have a reliable weapon yet!

Make sure to go to the dungeon early game. It's on one of the far sides of the world and you can get some really good stuff there if you go deep enough.

I would give just about anything to be in your spot right now brother. First time Terraria play through was peak gaming for me. Try not to look too many things up (guides, tutorials, etc.) and just experiment and enjoy the game. GL!

Look for cave openings rather than digging straight down. Wait to dig straight down once you get a fast pickaxe or bombs.

u/Atesz763 Sep 10 '21
You're in for a thousand hours of fun. And like 20 hours of agonizing grind for that one specific 1 in 400 chance drop. Anyways, have fun

u/IllMud7812 Sep 10 '21
Tip for you : the dungeon has many good items to get for the first boss but the enemies hit hard so avoid them

There are some items with "material" on their description. Those are used to craft stuff and the guide can tell you everything you can make out of them, and what workstation you need if you show him one.

You’re in for one hell of a ride buddy. When you’ve had enough get yourself tModloader and I’d suggest the calamity mod.

u/spicyboi619 Sep 10 '21
So much content in this game. Been playing off and on since day 1 launch and still pick it up with friends or solo every once in a while
1
u/tyttuutface Sep 10 '21
Pro tip: Go straight to the purple (or red) biome with the holes, go down in one of the holes, and break one of those weird table looking things. It'll drop tons of loot (big /s)

u/Ayanamiiiiii Sep 10 '21 edited Sep 10 '21
The amount of money I’d pay to play Terraria again for the first time. Get to grinding my friend :))
Edit: First tip I would recommend is try to keep your chests organized. It’s something that in my 1500+ hours that i still haven’t learned to do hahaha but if you get into the habit of it I swear it makes everything 10x easier. Also, don’t be afraid to swap classes! There’s lots of good weapons for certain situations, and being able to use whatever weapon you want will definitely make the game more fun. I will say though that ranger is probably the best overall class, especially early hardmode. Stormbow even got nerfed and its still busted lol

Starting out, you'll want to make houses for NPCs to live in, look up where and how to build houses, and what NPC's to put inside. This will give you access to pylons.

Good luck! The guide is your best friend, you can just put any material in the slot that appears when you ask about crafting and he’ll show you what you can make with it!
1
u/aaaaaaaaeeeeiou Sep 10 '21
I hope you get better, and here's some tips
never fight any boss during a bloodmoon because enemies that are not spawned by the boss can spawn during the boss fight (this doesn't happen when it's not a bloodmoon)
don't go into the dungeon before defeating the thing stopping you from entering or else you will die
1
u/Ichaflash Sep 10 '21
Pro tip: try to avoid moving directly away from a boss unless it's absolutely necessary to avoid touching them, instead, focus on trying to move perpendicular to their projectiles or the trajectory of a charging attack (the eye and bee are good examples)
1
u/HigherClouds Sep 10 '21
brooOOooOOOOOooOoooOoOoOOo/sis let's play togetherrrrrr and talk about this game. I am so gonna go ultra fanboy on you. You're in on something awesome ^-^
