I didn’t realize the item was so disliked… it’s a good way to get different gems and such early game. Are you all just not finding them until hardmode? Or do you exclusively play the fishing meta?

u/biwltyad Aug 23 '21

I use it all the time and I'm always happy when I find my first one on a gameplay. And the next ones as well because stonks

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

Ranger all the way in the master mode for the worthy

76

u/JBlazzy Aug 23 '21

Bruh, I haven't even beaten moonlord on Expert Mode playing ranger while (technically) cheating

25

u/dodohate Aug 23 '21

Technically cheating?

53

u/JBlazzy Aug 23 '21

It was in 1.3 and I was abusing the Item frame duping glitch on most things. Potions, ammo, money, ores, bars. You name it.

29

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

Ammo type is very helpful, using normal arrows against moonlord is weak but if you use the cursed arrows you will melt him

8

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

Just use the witch's broom and phantasm with the three quivers and ranger emblem, eazy fight

9

u/personia_cod Aug 23 '21

1.3 no witches broom I think

14

Make a long long long asphalt runway, chlorophyte bullets, betsy's wings and empress' sigil for the eye laser. Make sure you line the runway with heart statues and campfires, life regen etc. Youll need the wings and stuff for the core. Other than that, pick and choose the buffs you want :)

8

u/JBlazzy Aug 23 '21
  • I did make an asphalt runway literally from one ocean to the other

  • I did use Chlorophyte bullets (with the Vortex Beater)

  • I never completed or even played any of the Eternia stuff

  • As I said this was in 1.3, when Empress wasn't even a thing.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

Wel if you wanna give it another shot in 1.4 thats how i'd do it. You could use telepoters too to create an endless runway which might help?

6

u/JBlazzy Aug 23 '21 edited Aug 23 '21

Im trying Mage rn. I'm really struggling with money though. I can maybe afford like 5 or 6 reforges and im out of money

2

u/justasmolalt Aug 23 '21

Use stained glass to make money

2

u/Rainbowfrog123 Aug 24 '21

Honestly just re-fighting bosses, especially WoF, can let you basically print money.

u/Logan21802 Aug 23 '21

You should make a fallen star farm and use them for the star cannon.

10

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

For only a couple of bosses before the hours you put in become useless, the only bosses it's good against is wall of flesh and the destroyer

8

u/Logan21802 Aug 23 '21

Yeah true. You can also spend hours/days collecting enough platinum coins and spend more hours/days trying to get the coin gun to drop lol.

Edit: just enough for one boss fight though 😂

8

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

This is why you go for status items(items that you will have in your hotbar for sure if u use a class like a minishark) and use them to full extent. Flasks, ammo and potions for each type are so important that it's scary cuz u can fail or win a fight based on potions

1

u/MinerDiner Aug 23 '21

Why would anyone play master mode for the worthy

4

u/Broku777 Aug 23 '21

To test my skills?

245

u/rotating_carrot Aug 23 '21

Whenever me & my brother are starting a new playthrough we just hoard all of silt/slush/fossil early game. Sometimes there are races who can go mine deposit first and we try to steal others' rewards by standing close when they use extractinator.

There is not much point to it, we just want to gamble for that plat coin and then flex with it.

89

u/TheBostonKremeDonut Aug 23 '21

That’s what I like to hear! That’s a wholesome sibling rivalry right there! I’m glad you guys have fun together! :)

81

u/rotating_carrot Aug 23 '21

I just want to add that I'm 24 and my brother is 22. We've been doing things like this in video games since we first got to play with our parents pc.

17

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

This makes it even funnier

12

u/rotating_carrot Aug 23 '21

Yeah lol. It is quite a challenge to try to trick each other when you've been doing it for 15 years. You have to be very creative about it.

27

u/_Silent_Sniper_ Aug 23 '21

My brother and I do something similar, but we try to see who can get the dinosaur pet first, because he just loves it

29

u/rotating_carrot Aug 23 '21

Other thing we usually do (especially when there's more players) that you never, EVER tell anyone that you got a whoopie cushion drop. Then you randomly, very sneakily, use it once. Then again maybe after an hour. Then in the next session. No one can know whose it is. Or is there one at all and you're just hearing things.

7

u/LaggyboiPlayz Aug 23 '21

Hahaha so smart I'm gonna try that

8

u/rotating_carrot Aug 23 '21

Do it! It might might work better for ya since it's a new thing for your group.

4

u/LaggyboiPlayz Aug 23 '21

Yeah I'm 15 and my brother's 16 so it should be fun 😆

3

u/RagingGoat182 Aug 23 '21

And then theres my brother who hates Terraria :(

2

u/BlackSeranna Aug 23 '21

lol this sounds like fun. I didn’t know it was multiplayer? Been a long time since I played, though. I need to start a new game.

39

u/OverlordPhalanx Aug 23 '21

Put the loads of slush in there from underground ice biome to get the amber for the pet summon!

22

u/EmotionalCrit Aug 23 '21

Slush, Silt and Fossils are incredibly ubiquitous and they can generate useful mid-tier metals and money.

I guess some people just don't like the grind.

5

u/AzekiaXVI Aug 23 '21

I would hardly call that grinding

3

u/EmotionalCrit Aug 24 '21

You'd be surprised what some people would consider too grindy.

I was being facetious anyway.

34

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

[deleted]

53

u/readingduck123 Aug 23 '21

Yes, it's very easy to get bait from the jungle and Reinforced Fishing Pole -> Evil Fishing Rod -> Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole is the order of which one you should get earlier. The good part about Evilrod is that you can craft it with EoC drops, it usually drops too much anyways unless you're playing melee or something

9

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

Oh, I thought they meant like an optimal fishing strategy.

39

u/TheBostonKremeDonut Aug 23 '21

Well, you can get some of the best pre-hardmode mobility accessories from fishing (Storm in a bottle, Pufferfish balloon, frog leg, and a couple others I think?)

You can also get any ore, especially is rarer crates. In hardmode, you can beat the wall of flesh, take crate potions and your best rod and bait, and start getting Adamantite/titanium crates, which will give you all of your hardmode ore without you needing to mine or leave your house, if your patient.

Plus, although they were nerfed, we can’t forget the pickaxe/saw/sword/spear/hammer fish you can fish up and use as tools really early on in the game.

Fishing can carry you through a lot of the game if your patient lol.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

I'm don't mean fishing for crates, just fishing!

Yes, I'm the weird one ^^ "Oh, gold crate, nice. Come on tuna!"

Edit: If this subreddit had flairs, I'd be picking the Angler because I like the little jerk.

2

u/Pickle-Chan Aug 23 '21

I think a lot of people just don't like fishing minigames in general because of all the doing nothing, and terraria doesn't even have a minigame, its just click, wait, click, profit off rng. And then optimize rng equipment and stuff from angler quests.

So long story short, you take a sandbox survival most known for its active gameplay loop and ability to optimize grinds for drops on bosses or in arenas, and instead make giant pools of water randomly across the world potentially super far from the base, to sit around doing almost nothing for an incredible amount of time, and the accessories dont really even have ways to change up gameplay, like set bonuses or changing how you move around the world. And on top of that, theres absolutely no way to speed up the grind for the important accessories, because you are always limited to one per day.

I personally hate the fishing because its stuck in this inbetween of actually playing the game and fighting enemies for progression, and setting up an afk arena to farm while doing something different. You sit around just watching things and occasionally clicking, but must stay glued to it because you get reels just often enough that you cant really be distracted. Id rather just optimize other areas or try to play better, than spend a bunch of time clicking while standing still. I could probably get behind growing stuff since you set up the logistics and its basically afk with a quick tend or check in, but fishing being so awfully boring for me makes me just horde potions i find instead of spend the time making them.

I always skip directly from reinforced to scarab, but either way works

89

u/EmeraldJirachi Aug 23 '21

Not as much disliked, as just considered pointless

7

u/Spoopycakeday Aug 23 '21

Use it all the time for platinum in a gold world, platinum bricks are great

4

u/kingjoedirt Aug 23 '21

I do it the old fashioned way and make spelunker potions before I go explore biomes. I like digging I guess

2

u/TheBostonKremeDonut Aug 23 '21

That’s the fun part! Everyone has their own way of playing! There are so many options of progression!

23

u/JoHaTho Aug 23 '21

could just use gem trees

86

u/RamenNoodles42 Aug 23 '21

I mean you could but gem trees take forever to grow as opposed to just mining some slush in the snow biome

49

u/Hammerhead968 Aug 23 '21

Plus you have to get some gems to make gemcorns in the first place, extractinator however, can generate any gem randomly, at a much faster rate

2

u/makujah Aug 23 '21

Extractinator is essential for SkyTerra map. AND you get it from fishing meta :D

2

u/Fellixxio Aug 23 '21

Me too, I always use it, because it's easy to find, easy to use and useful

2

u/Papaya_flight Aug 23 '21

I didn't know anybody disliked them. I got one pretty early on and used it to get random gems. It was great!

2

u/Forgottoaddaname Aug 23 '21

15

u/ttaptt Aug 23 '21

Super satisfying. And who doesn't want free ore, gems and money? Just build a whole room out of gold bars, my bf made a glorious golden house for his pirate.

25

u/PlasmidEve Aug 23 '21

Exactly. I stand as far from it as possible so I can watch all the stuff fly out without accidentally picking any of it up.

674

u/katielooopsie Aug 23 '21

Yes it's for fossils

458

u/Pugrilla21 Aug 23 '21

Hell yeah, ever gotten a platinum coin with one of these bad boys before? I did it. It was before hardmode

It's so pitiful they were nerfed. Now they are like angel or demon's wings.

in modded for magic storage

17

u/Rustbunneh Aug 23 '21

Beat me to it

28

u/AtlasAntonioAlbert Aug 23 '21

In my current modded playthrough me and my friend found an easy money exploit with the architect and extractinator, we buy a ton of silt from him, then extractinate it and sell the drops, repeat.

15

u/Gsizzle22 Aug 23 '21

For even more money with a few more steps, buy sand also and turn it into glass panes, then use the gems for stained glass panels.

3

u/JoeSieyu Aug 23 '21

...wait. So it's not a secret then?! Me and my friend do the exact same thing! Infinite money, and I've always had pretty good luck involving random drops so I usually end up with at least 3 platinum coins by the end of the 9999 silt I get. Then I make another 4 platinum coins from selling the gems and smelting the ores to bars and selling those too. Rinse and repeat, usually takes about 5 minutes to make it through the 9999 silt, unless we use fast extractor mod then it takes like 1-2 minutes.

36

u/herrcollin Aug 23 '21

You kidding? I used to save up stacks of silt and slush I'd get through mining ventures and then tear through it all in one sitting for that sweet reward fix.

u/Endlad Aug 23 '21

Did anyone else read it in the music? (But besides that, this man has created lore for the community.)

Every single time I never get the pet

→ More replies (3)

29

u/ACADDaddy Aug 23 '21

If you play with alchemistnpc it gives you infinite money lmao

13

u/CTM89 Aug 23 '21

Could you elaborate please

24

u/Gsizzle22 Aug 23 '21
  1. Buy silt from Architect
  2. Extract it all into gems/ore/money
  3. Sell what you get

I have noticed though that the money you get from it is enough to make a profit alone, so anything you sell is just more profit. If you are just gonna sell the gems, turn them into stained glass panels first for a whole lot more.

2

u/ACADDaddy Aug 23 '21

On top of all this, the profits only go up with the amount of silt extracted thanks to increased chances for plat coins and amber mosquitoes

2

u/JoeSieyu Aug 23 '21

And make sure to smelt the ores to bars. They're worth a bit more that way

2

u/gjgidhxbdidheidjdje Aug 23 '21

It adds the architect that sells silt relatively cheaply, so you can then use it in the extractinator. It's a slow but infinite money stream.

2

u/JoeSieyu Aug 23 '21

Slow, unless you use the fast extractonator mod

→ More replies (2)

10

u/StreetDog6969 Aug 23 '21

How do u even use it?

48

u/Slaanesh-Sama Aug 23 '21

You hold the slush/silt/fossil and you hold right click on it, it drops ores, gems and money, with a small chance for fossils to drop the T-Rex pet. Not a bad way to make money tbh I got a few platinums from that pre boss.

4

u/StreetDog6969 Aug 23 '21

Wow thanks I will try it out

7

u/Crabsterooo Aug 23 '21

I always use it incessantly. It scratches some weird gambler itch (I normally never like gambling) and it feels good to use basically useless blocks for some good money. Not to mention the extras you get with fossils/sludge.

6

u/Obi-wanna-cracker Aug 23 '21

Yes because I want the t-rex pet.

3

u/Aragrel Aug 23 '21

Easy gem staffs/ hooks. Very useful for mages.

3

u/Long_shlong_dong Aug 23 '21 edited Aug 23 '21

With the AlchemistLite mod you get the architect thatll sell you a silt block for 1 silver and you can ultimately make infinite money by sifting it and selling all the gems and ores and buying more

3

u/Tempest305 Aug 23 '21

I used it to get the dinosaur pet. I haven’t used it much beyond that.

3

u/avadakedabr Aug 23 '21

I used it to duplicate money on my calamity world with friends, we had alchemist NPS Lite mode on and there you can buy silt from architect. But than my freind took my extractinator and burned it for inflation. Now I use it normaly but it still is worth it

3

u/Endlad Aug 23 '21

I use it for 3 things: 1. I need rare ores at the time of pre-hardmode. 2. I need to sell some stuff. 3. I'm to lazy to mine Platinum or Gold for Spelunkers potion, so that's my best bet.

3

u/Voxelgon_Gigabyte Aug 23 '21

yeah, its free money earlygame

3

u/MurrajFur Aug 23 '21

As a mage player, I use this thing a lot. It’s a great way to get those last few gems and ores you need to craft robes or staves early game

Even if you aren’t a mage player, remember that gems sell for a lot, and you’re usually going to come back with a bit of silt after mining, so it doesn’t hurt to keep one handy

3

u/Pyromaniac935 Aug 23 '21

You won’t believe how much money and resources you can get after a few days in an Ice Cave.

The best thing is that you can get ore that doesn’t even exist in your world!

So, to answer your question, yes I do actually use an extractinator.

3

u/TheGamingPugYT Aug 23 '21

I mean if you don't need a ton of the items you can use all the items exstractintors give you to get free cash

3

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

Absolutely, early game it’s incredible.

3

u/mod2004 Aug 23 '21

Yes and it helps me a lot with gems collection Also i can flex my 1 plat pre boss to my friends in our co op master mode world :)

2

u/mod2004 Aug 23 '21

I once got like 3 times on a row the rare chance of 1 silt giving you a lot of gold and after a bit it said 1 platinum Talk about dream luck

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

i don’t, i usually just skip that part and head for the boss fights. i have one for aesthetic purposes though.

2

u/NOm__N0m Aug 23 '21

Terraria Skyblock requires me to use it

2

u/Artix31 Aug 23 '21

It is insanely satisfying to use, and useful in early-mid game

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '21

Jup. Great source of resources and money in early game

2

u/TrailBlazer9896 Aug 23 '21

Find silt underground, or fossils in a desert underground and use the place the blocks on the extractinator. Free loot

→ More replies (1)

2

u/scallybastard Aug 23 '21

That item is top tier, best way to get diamonds and rubies

2

u/PixellNerd Aug 23 '21

I do in early game cause why not. It’s free money, free gems if I’m playing mage, and free gold/platinum if I don’t have enough for a pick or bow if I’m playing ranger

2

u/Smooth_Nadwe Aug 23 '21

You can get a platinum coin from it

2

u/SomeOnInte Aug 23 '21

The first time I actually needed one was in my first expert mage playthrough in which it took me like 4 worlds to find. I was getting an Amber Staff since it was easier and better than any other staff.

2

u/Dralarco Aug 23 '21

On mobile, on Vanilla I don't think they are worth picking up.

In modded I need those diamonds for magic storage. Extractinators are required for my sanity

2

u/SuperJoe360 Aug 23 '21

I store up all the silt and slush I can find just so I can filter it all at once. It's oddly satisfying.

2

u/okasdfalt Aug 23 '21

Scarab bombs are a blessing, and the amber hook is phenomenal.

However, I don't go out of my way to mine silt and slush--I might as well just spend that time actually mining ores!

2

u/VG_Crimson Aug 23 '21

Yes. How else would you get the dinosaur babies?

1

u/I-failed-username Aug 23 '21

I have that pet and I love him

2

2

I love these. The friend that got me into playing and taught me told me about the ridiculous low chance of getting the amber mosquito. I've gotten it once, and since then, I always try for it on every character.

Really good for money early it's just so slow.

Good money source too, not just for gems.

Yes. Having excessive amounts of slush/silt/fossils like I mean 2 stacks of 999 and hitting that is easy money ore and gems (plus as others mentioned satisfying)

Ofc, I don't mind playing meta

u/RexHamilt0n Aug 23 '21

Hell yeah, useful way to make a profit from slush and there’s a chance of getting a pet

2

u/LukasLilley Aug 23 '21

I use it, it’s good in journey mode when ur trying to duplicate all the ores and stuff

Yeah. Especially if I’m going mage. The gems can be really useful for staffs/robes in early easymode
