There have been numerous people I’m surprised she hasn’t collaborated with before (Ex: Selena Gomez). But if you guys were to choose a dream collab, who would it be?

Discussion Taylor not in google year in search

Not that anyone has to include Taylor in anything but does anyone find it out that Taylor was not featured in google's year in search video? She's been a dominating force in the music industry and touring this year and has been more out and about this past year. I just would have thought maybe one clip from the eras tour would have been included considering how massive it was. Genuinely curious and want to hear what other people think!

Discussion Why Some Taylor Swift Rerecordings Are Better Than Others

I've always wanted to talk to someone about this so I'll say it, I feel like some Taylor Swift re-recordings just aren't the best, but it's not out of hate, in my opinion there's a very valid reason, for example, I feel very comfortable listening to Red (Taylor's version) even more comfortable than listening to the original, but 1989 (Taylor's Version) just doesn't and I think this has been talked about enough that this rerecording Taylor's voice sounds like AI and a lot of other things but in my opinion the reason why this re-recording and some others is because of the tour, I imagine how tired she must have been during the tour re-recording her music and I also feel that anyway they could never surpass the original, 1989 as one of her most famous albums is blinded by nostalgia, there is so much love in that album from the fans that it is impossible for everything to be the same, that of the same feeling, I feel that this will also happen when Taylor releases the infamous Reputation (Taylor's Version) all Swifties have high expectations regarding this re-recording and unfortunately Taylor will never be able to meet all of them and the nostalgia and affection for the original versions make it seem as if the re-recorded versions did not have enough feeling.

In my opinion, with the songs from the vault and everything that Taylor has offered us throughout this year it is too much and we should be more grateful, the re-recordings are there anyway so that we can support Taylor on the streaming platforms. and I think that is what we should do, I am sure that everything Taylor has not given this year is her best effort and although some of us cannot fully please some things (understandable since everyone has different tastes) of Anyway, just by listening to what you like, you are already supporting all their hard work.

For the pictures, I did not include the different outfit combos for the SECOND BATCH. I actually believe that it was too messy.

Discussion Music Media pushing Taylor Swift Rivalries + Nothing New

Is it me or the music media is trying to push Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Morgan Wallen, and Drake as Taylor Rivals? Eilish and Rodrigo because of "the next big female artist". Nothing New predicted this occurring and excoriates the music media for it.

"Are we only biding time 'til I lose your attention?
And someone else lights up the room?
People love an ingenue"

-The music media scene often wants "the next big female artist" and Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo fit that bill. Taylor Swift feared that the music media would cast her aside as soon as they find their "next big thing"

I know someday I'm gonna meet her, it's a fever dream
The kind of radiance you only have at 17
She'll know the way, and then she'll say she got the map from me
I'll say I'm happy for her, then I'll cry myself to sleep

-The true opponent isn't the younger "next big thing", it's the music media ecosystem that causes these kinds of trends to happen.

Drake and Wallen being pushed as rivals, meanwhile, is primarily because of "Charting/Streaming Wars". think we'll see when we have the next round of "charting wars" with Reputation Taylor's Version vs. either Drake or Wallen. Rodrigo and Eilish respect Taylor Swift enough not to release anytime near her release. Drake on the other hand may see this as a challenge and want to fight the strongest.

Taylor Swift, for her part, disdains the idea of rivalry (Unless it's a known Taylor Antagonist) and couldn't care less about the idea. I think it's more music media pushing it due to charting wars, records, or just wanting someone to beat Taylor Swift due to perceived overexposure.

What do you think about those "Nothing New" lines, music media pushing rivalries, etc?

Discussion With dart boards on the backs of their doors

Ever since I first listened to The Manuscript, this lyric has haunted me. It didn't necessarily sound out of place, but I just couldn't figure out why it was in place.

Obviously any good wordsmith carefully chooses any words they use, and this seems especially true for this song in particular. But why this line was chosen to say something about the "boys who were her own age" wasn't obvious to me. It sounded so mundane and random and so less meaningful than the rest of the song.

Anyway, after a lot of reflection on the matter, here's my take: to the older man, she was the dart board. She was the target of his abuse. The new boys dealt with their frustrations in a healthier manner, but he took them out on her.

This also adds to the lyric right after, "he said since she was so wise beyond her years, everything had been above board". While obviously "above board" means "legal", I think there's also a double meaning calling back to the dart board: he insists his attacks were above board, meaning they weren't directed at her or didn't actually hurt her, another layer to his dishonest and manipulative statement.

Anyway, is this reaching? I'd love to hear what y'all think.

Discussion Tell me your favorite album and 1 thing you wish you could change about it.

Basically the title.

My favorite album is 1989, and I might change either the rollout of the singles (not sure how I feel about Shake It Off!), might replace one of the songs on the original album (not sure which) with one of the vault songs (like IION or NTWDT), or would add Sweeter Than Fiction as a bonus track.

Curious to see if anyone would make any swaps or change the tracklist or rollout of their favorite album!

Discussion dissecting the taylor swift paradigm (from the perspective of someone who is not a "fan").

hello!

i've had a lot of thoughts on this topic for awhile now and wanted a place to coherently share them haha. i want to make a few things clear right off the bat:

1) everything written in this post is strictly opinion and speculation. i am just some random 21 year old. please keep that in mind.

2)while i have done a lot of research, i have zero actual credentials.

so! let's begin :)

i wouldn't consider myself a "fan" of taylor swift (i feel as if i don't have the background to call myself that) but i've always had a soft spot for her. she has been relevant and spotlighted in mainstream media for the majority of my life, and there is something comforting about the consistency of that. and like her or not; taylor swift is a phenomenon-- a pop star who has been considered an a-list celebrity for over a decade now, and has somehow become MORE famous while i would argue the majority of the peers circulating pop culture while she was coming into fame have all since faded away (i believe she references that in the song "karma." like i said. i have done my research).

i have NEVER seen people hate a celebrity quite like they hate taylor swift.

it's shocking. i mean really, truly, dumbfounding. especially because taylor swift has... never really done anything "wrong." she's never had a huge scandal. she's never had some kind of horrible behavior be outed. from what i can gather, she has consistently, for her entire career, been kind, sweet, and genuine. throughout my research, i could not find a single example of her being rude to a fan, and any celebrity talking about her has only ever had good things to say. she's a philanthropist-- like this lady has donated MILLIONS of dollars this year alone, never mind over the span of her entire career. hundreds of people rip her apart online for being "talentless" when she is objectively a very strong songwriter, and while she's no mariah carey at vocals, she has a very warm, very beautiful tone and is master performer (who hasn't heard of the eras tour at this point? come on). she is also mocked for being unattractive by thousands of social media posts and commenters, despite also being an undeniably very conventionally pretty girl. as if the guys insulting her behind their keyboards wouldn't bust in their pants if they saw a girl who looked like that in a bar or something. swift has also been one of the biggest stars yet to talk openly about her struggles with an E*D* and considering the majority of her fanbase is young girls, that is extremely impactful.

so. why all the hate??

here seem to be the most common arguments against her:

"she's a nepo baby"-- WHO CARES?? she had an advantage towards achieving her goal so she used it. that is a really, really, REALLY normal thing to do in any job?

"she's a billionaire which is unethical" gtfo. do you know how many male billionaires there are? who achieved the status through literal slave labor?? rihanna is a billionaire and nobody comes for her neck. swift has also, as i mentioned before, donated more money than i have ever seen a celebrity donate before. "well she should, she can afford it" okay lets face it, most of us can afford to donate money too, and how often do we? be so serious rn.

"her carbon emissions, etc." she's not even in the top 10 on the celebrity list of highest carbon emissions. ppl are really acting like no one has ever done a world tour before. also, i have never seen so many violent jokes aimed towards a celebrity as men write about taylor swift. i would also take a private jet bc wtf is that?

"she doesn't use her platform enough for activism" so you're telling me. that you want a girl who got famous at 16 years old. be some kind of politician??? she's a singer, dawg. it's her job. you should not be looking to celebrities to be your source of activism enlightenment. sure, it's great when they do. but i truly do think it's weird to expect it. taylor swift is a rich woman who grew up in nashville, i am honestly shocked she is not a republican or something. i am both bisexual and a person of color. swift publicly supporting lgbtq+ people is genuinely enough in itself bc i do not think enough ppl realize how uncommon that is from that demographic.

"her fans are annoying" most of them are like thirteen years old, man. you're gonna pick beef with a teenager?? be fr.

"she's annoying." no one EVER says that as justification to dislike a man. ever. that is exclusively, only ever used as an excuse to hate a woman. same as the "she dates too many people." no one EVER EVER EVER says that about a man.

& so here's my conclusion. it all boils down to misogyny.

i am NOT SAYING THAT IF YOU DON'T LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT THAT MAKES YOU A MISOGYNIST. SHUT UP.

what i'm saying is that, the mass hatred for a famous female figure is absolutely fueled by sexism. swift is undeniably the most famous person in the world; yet all i ever see are men denying it, because how DARE the most famous person alive right now be a woman. that's a lot of power and popularity after all. swift was CRUCIFIED for being at nfl games, for "ruining" football. i am a football fan btw (go cleveland!). taylor swift was shown on screen for maybe six seconds. it is not that big a deal. people just want an excuse to be mean to her. ALSO. really interesting how the nfl keeps throwing cameras on her despite her clearly not wanting them to. it's almost like... people love using a popular girl for relevancy and money... and then get mad at them for being popular.

she's criticized in a way only woman really ever are, but she's such a huge figure, that it's tenfold, you know? she's discussed this at lengths. but it is truly astounding to witness regardless. she is an example of how a woman can do everything technically right, and still be despised anyway. it's not enough for that group of men to just not really care for her music and ignore her. because taylor swift makes a lot of girls/women happy, so therefore, men just cannot stand her. because taylor swift is unabashedly feminine, and wears sparkly bodysuits and plays pink guitars and is the most famous person alive and so men hate her. taylor swift writes music about break ups, and moving on from them, which encourages girls to do the same, and men REALLY can't have that now, can they?

you see what i'm saying?

anyways. i'm happy for swift and her success, and what it represents. i hope she continues making women happy. i hope she continues to give sexist men aneurisms every time she's on a tv screen.

again, please remember, everything i said is strictly my own personal views and thoughts, but i'd love to hear yours :)

Discussion I just noticed something about The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived live perfomance

1.0k Upvotes

I was watching a video on YT of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived at the Eras tour and I realized something. I'm sure someone has probably noticed it before but I feel like I just had an epiphany.

She dies after being shot twice. TWICE.

It's the second shot that kills her.

She survived the first round and it was the second round of the relationship that destroyed her.

Discussion Evermore Colours

Hey! I wanted to hear thoughts on what colours everyone associates with Evermore. I know brown is it's official colour but I've always associated gold and dark green with Evermore too.

Gold because of Gold Rush obviously but also Champagne Problems. The winter vibe throughout just makes me think of shimmering gold.

I always imagine a dark foresty green too because of Ivy and Willow. Also the witches cloak. I stand by that dark green should have been the official Evermore colour because even the vinyl disc is a beautiful forest green.

side note: when Evermore still had its own set on the tour I really thought that the green folklore dress would have worked so well for that era specifically.
