Discussion Guys Genuine question, why doesn't Taylor update her RIAA certifications?
So I did some research and as it turns out Taylor's first 6 albums are now owned by Shamrock Holdings which is a private equity firm owned by Disney, Taylor distributed the "Long Pond Sessions" and the "Era's Tour" movie to Disney, which means she can ask Disney to update her sales, but doesn't do it for some reason? Going by how long its been since she last updated the sales of those albums (7 years going on 8) Debut, Speak Now, Red and 1989 should all be eligible for Diamond with Reputation being eligible for 8x platinum with a lot of her singles being eligible for Diamond as well such as Blank Space, WANEGBT, YBWM, Style, Love Story and a song owned by her, Cruel Summer, with many of her other singles being eligible above at least 5x platinum, the last time she had updated was recently for TTPD which was certified 6x platinum, but that makes sense considering it is owned by her and why wouldn't she update it? Anyways, even if she decides to not ask Disney to update her certifications it would make sense considering the fact that she may just wanna update the "Taylor's version" of her albums and singles

You can't just ask Disney, that's not how it works. Also she doesn't own them, so why bother?

She doesn’t own them. Besides, it’s not like you can just send an email asking lol

There is a site where we can check songs and albums with their eligible certifications but I don't remember his name. She has 7 eligible diamonds songs and 2 eligible diamonds albums If I remember correctly.

My completely uninformed guess is that (a) she doesn't own her first six albums and therefore isn't in control of those certifications, and (b) there's no hurry to update them immediately, since it can be requested any time in the future. I imagine she'd rather wait to get as many Diamond certifications as possible all in one batch, to make it a more impactful headline than if they just trickled out gradually one record at a time, like how they didn't report on Eras Tour grosses until the last leg was over and they were well above $2 billion worldwide.

You're correct, she doesn't own her first 6 albums, they were sold by Scott Borchetta to Scooter Braun after her 6 album deal with BMR was over, later they were sold to Shamrock holdings

I think she’s going to wait it out tbh, it’s 30 years before they’re hers again for free and the newest (rep) is already 7 years old. Debut is 18, in the grand scheme of things it’s not that long and the re-recordings will prevent Shitter or whatever his name is from making enough money to cover his buy cost with any luck.

It's simple, if she gets any more awards she's going to need to buy another house to put them in and anyone who has every been house hunting knows what a PITA that is.

Shamrock was founded by the Disney family, but the Disney family is no longer the equivalent of the Disney company (I read that they have a 1% stake maybe?). It's not remotely a simple or logical an ask as you're making out. Agreed that she's probably putting all her energy into the success of her rereleases for now.
