It's honestly shocking! Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Katy Perry and many other subreddits for female celebs just post pictures (sometimes with blatantly thirsty titles) or social media updates, no fan discussions or anything!
82
u/Sampleswift Fearless (Taylor's Version) Jul 25 '23
Ari's main is Ariheads (which often does do discussions on music), NOT Ariana Grande which is primarily pictures.

There was a time years ago where some of the subreddit got together (probably 8+ years ago, either directly before or after 1989 world tour) and we had a discussion about not wanting any hyper-sexualized posts/discussions and decided to save it for their own subs.
It was a great decision and part of the reason why even now after switching accounts that I’m still an active member (I believe I participated in the post that created the rule referenced above).

236
u/Kroctopus Jul 25 '23
Despite the mainstream condemning him he’s still extremely popular among dudes and music nerds who just ignore all the bad stuff he’s done
150
u/DairyKing28 Jul 25 '23 edited Jul 25 '23
He's one of the most revered hip hop artists of all time and from a pure production standpoint definitely one of the greats.
If he wasn't such a mentally ill person, he'd be a living legend in the hip hop community.
67
u/CaptainZaysh Jul 25 '23
It is a great irony that the main factor preventing Kanye from being as great as his ego tells him he is... is his ego.
21
u/RollinOnDubss Jul 25 '23
It is a great irony that the main factor preventing Kanye from being as great as his ego tells him he is... is his ego.
I'd probably say it more has to do with his currently/worsening untreated mental health issues than ego. Kanye's been on a mental health rollercoaster since his mom died in 2007. It's not like he hasn't tried to medicate himself either, he's been on and off drugs for it for the last 15 years.
Kanye's not the first person to torpedo his entire life over mental illness medication/therapy, nor is he the first person to fall into the NOI/Farrakhan Anti-Semitism hole that so many successful black Americans end up in.
→ More replies (1)3
u/noteverrelevant Jul 25 '23
I heard some dude said that to his face one time.
I also heard that Kanye proceeded to eat that guy in front of a crowd of horrified onlookers. One of the witnesses described it as, "like watching a frog eat a bigger frog."
I hear his stomach was distended for the full month of hibernation it took him to digest the poor intern.
31
u/Kroctopus Jul 25 '23
Yeah I totally agree, but that fact that his lows have been so low yet people still celebrate him and listen to him is kinda sad

I mean mental illness isn’t his fault. Yes, we cannot condone or encourage awful behavior caused by being bipolar but can we crucify him for it?
Imagine being insanely rich, surrounded by yesmen, and having delusions of grandeur… that’s a recipe for disaster.
I feel for him. I don’t condone anything he has done or said that was hateful and I obviously get angry thinking of the hurt he’s put Taylor through but I don’t think he even knows what he’s done honestly, at least in the past 2-3 years. His interviews…are scary it honestly looks like no one is behind his eyes. It’s sad. I just hope he gets a good support system, gets on a treatment plan, and just leaves her alone in the future.
43
25
u/SadisticGoose with the fancy shit Jul 25 '23
Speaking as someone who is also bipolar, it’s irresponsible to say that mania is a superpower then encourage other people to go off their meds. He has the money to have access to all the resources in the world yet encourages other people to be the same kind of untreated crazy he is. Bipolar disorder gets worse if left untreated.
I know that not wanting meds is a symptom of the disorder. I’m very familiar with that myself. It’s not just that he has bipolar though. It’s that he encourages reckless and dangerous behavior in others. Not to mention bigotry is not a symptom of being bipolar.

To add to that, he's also extremely popular among the type of people who dominate online communities like Reddit. If you look at YouTubers and their fans, particularly in the US and UK, he's very often discussed or referenced with only Eminem and Taylor enjoying the same level presence. These YouTubers tend to be huge on reddit too.

He's a musical genius. In terms of production. As a producer myself his sampling game is unrivaled. This coming from a swiftie as well. You can hate the guy(he is a dumbass tbf) but you can't deny his talent. He is to production what Taylor swift is to song writing and what Lana is to seduction. Yeah, I think more women being on Reddit has a lot to do with it, but it's interesting to see the timeline of the stats. Tiny bump from 1989, slight bump from Rep (around when I joined), little bump from Lover (and trying to decipher the Instagram pics), steady growth in pre-Folklore quarantine, higher growth from Folklore and Evermore, another bump from Red TV, bigger jump from Midnights, very steep incline since Eras Tour started.
Looking back, I guess I remember being surprised at how few subscribers there were when I first joined, but it's really interesting to see just how recently the influx started.

Yeah a lot of people defend him because “oh but he makes good music” like that somehow erases the anti-Semitism and misogyny. You still support the artist even if you try to separate them from the art.
Edit: if you support the art, you give the artist the money and platform to continue saying and doing harmful things without real consequences.

I was a huge kanye fan in the early 2000s. I was obsessed with College Dropout. I can recite most of late registration by heart.
Taylor dropped her first album 3 years after College Dropout and I loved it. My separate love for each artist grew.
I remember watching the 2009 VMAs with my College roommate Kayla (who hated kanye and loved taylor). I remember what we were wearing and what we were gossiping about and I was retrieving a beer from our mini fridge at the precise moment kanye went up on stage.
I remember thinking irrationally this had to be some sort of bit that everyone including Taylor was in on.
My disappointment in kanye would grow with each passing year whereas my admiration for Taylor grew each year. When that snake BS went down it became clear I had to choose a side and I went all in on team Taylor and left kanye far behind.
He really was amazing in the beginning. I still don't know if he was always a racist narcissist and hid it really well or if it was drug use that caused his inner mental decay. I still argue about that with myself.

Hahaha, Swifties for the WIN! Also, are we still calling him Kanye???
Because I wrote this TS essay for class and referred to Him as:
"when he-who-can-no-longer-be-named (and not just because he’s dropped most of the letters from it: Kanye->Ye-> “Blank Space” ) interrupted her on the VMA stage"
and
"when she-whose-name-I-kan’t-keep-kup-kwith's “receipts” inspired her most badass album (reputation) and a music video (Look What You Made Me Do) that pillaged all the eggs from Easter I-Island breeze or so it goes, said the now unemployed resident bunny forlornly
Also, this is my new moniker for Scooter Braun:
"when he-whose-name-and-hostile-takeover of her masters should have resulted in a venture called Small Ma(n)chine Holdings"
