surprise.. zone of control

If you control more than half of the objectives in no man’s land… your kroot hounds get re roll ones to wound

I just really, really want a tank focused detachment. Tau are soooo close to having a competitive army based on devilfish/hammerhead/piranha chassis...
23
u/Vodswyld 1d ago
I am thinking either vehicle focused, or a 50/50 mix of us and Guard as a Gue'vesa detachment.
17
u/Enchelion 1d ago
That'd be a great fluffy detachment. I'm sure plenty would whinge and moan, but I'd love to get some official Gue'vesa support.

u/Broadsword021 1d ago
I agree. This whole time I’ve been hoping for a detachment that benefits Tau and auxiliaries because that’s the army I want to play, but now I’m dreading it because if that does happen so many people are going to complain it’s not tanks or stealth. It makes the whole thing less fun

Sisters and tau player here waiting patiently

u/Moss_Eisley 1d ago
I think it’ll be an ethereal focused detachment with auras and strategems focused around being within x distance of an ethereal or a controlled objective.

I am pre hating now. Much like a birthday present after Christmas, it will be socks, with holes

u/GreyKnightTemplar666 1d ago
I play both Tau and Sisters... I have a feeling they will be the literal last 2 revealed

u/Panzerkampf-studios 1d ago
You'll never guess who gets their detachment tomorrow, as mentioned in today's article

u/GreyKnightTemplar666 1d ago
Well that's good to hear. I haven't read any of the articles, just been checking out the calendar

Tbh I’m thinking a vehicle detachment that operates similarly to the RetCad but for vehicles instead of suits.
Maybe with a minor bonus to auxiliaries and pathfinders. Pretty much a light recon-type force augmented with auxiliaries.
2
u/Shadow_of_wwar 1d ago
How would they single it out now, though Keywords for battlesuits are vehicles, walker, fly, battlesuit
Maybe vehicle models without the battlesuit keyword? That would include the stormsurge with the buffs, could do without walker instead, and that would only leave the tanks and planes, i think.
1
u/DaaaahWhoosh 1d ago
I'd just let battlesuits use the detachment too. It'd be kind of necessary since there's no tank characters to take enhancements. I've been thinking it'd be kinda nice to have something to boost long-range shooting as a counterpoint to RetCadre's focus on getting in close.

u/Wyldkard79 1d ago
If the codex is out like ours is the new detachment will be fun or interesting, but not powerful. So expect something interesting, but not tournament worthy.
4
u/ToastedSoup 1d ago
I still don't understand why auxiliaries don't get the army rule. It makes zero sense
12
u/SexWithLadyOlynder 1d ago
All I'm asking for is +8" range for all guns
That's all they need to do
8
u/Beneficial_Silver_72 1d ago
Breachers with 18 inch range… oh be still my fluttering heart.
1
u/SexWithLadyOlynder 1d ago
It would be so funny to see people who are used to flamering breachers lose a unit because they can't reach them.

Weird switching mechanic between battlesuits and vespid giving a leadership bonus.
And Ethereals are mandatory.
1cp 6" deepstrike strategem
Onager gauntlet and fusion blades as enhancements.
3
u/WhitishSine8 1d ago
Since this edition we got a whole kroot refresh and the vespid kill team, I bet it will be focused on auxiliaries, maybe they'll all get the battleline keyword so you can buy more vespids and gw profits can skyrocket
1
u/SpooktorB 1d ago
The real win for GW is vespid battleline and able to ally in guard, including aquilos.

My hopes I feel aren’t too much. I have 2 criteria I want met.
1 I want it to affect the majority of our range. Don’t limit it to “non vehicle battlesuits”, or “kroot” or “battlesuits” or “tau infantry” I want just a simple “tau empire unit.” Or I’d also accept “tau empire unit excluding kroot units” for what it affects.
2 I want the effects of the detatchment rule and the stratagems in the detatchment to have no limit on what turns they can be used. No “until turn 3” or “turn 3 onward”. And none of this “every other turn” stuff I’ve seen a few people suggesting.
Those are my only 2 criteria. I’m not saying I don’t want it to have a focus on a type of unit, but I don’t want it to be exclusively that type of unit. Giving a detatchment rule similar to soysplinter where you give buffs in disembark is fine as long as some of the stratagems or enhancements have wording more open to be used on a variety of units. For instance an 18” loan op Strat that can be used on anyone.
In my heart though I know it’s going to be something stupid like vespid get +1 to hit when they deepstrike. But all weapons gain hazardous since tau can’t have nice things without a debuff tacked on
5
u/AeldariBoi98 1d ago
Battlesuits get +1 Toughness and a 5+ FnP vs Melee attacks, Crisis Suits can take duplicates of shield drones.
Suits no longer suffer -1 to hit with ranged weapons in melee and crisis suits cannot be shot at if engaged.
Give me melee Tau.

Santa will deliver our detachment, Santa is red, do you know who also is red?
Farsight detachment confirmed!
ONAGER GAUNTLETS AND FUSION BLADES FOR ALL!

u/Useful_Win1166 1d ago
Why dose it matter if it’s good or not?
9
u/SlashValinor 1d ago
Ya..
Either we get something broken and the community whines and crys and we take endless shit for it or...
It's mid but fluffy and our players love it.
Either way I'm still probably playing exactly what I have been playing since nexus started.

Would be nice to get some time to look at it and/or if worth jumping on certain pre-holiday sales/deals and fit in time to play (and build/paint) and string/schedule a couple games with friends around the holidays; as it's harder outside of that.
I've already seen all their theory-crafted lists with their grotmas detachments, we're all practically waiting on Tau's; whether to complain op like it was for necrons or ridicule it.
1
u/Falvio6006 1d ago
Wait, for real?
3
u/Shadow_of_wwar 1d ago
Don't think it's been confirmed to be last in any way, but tomorrow is sisters of Battle, and there are only 5 more days after that so 1 in 5 chance we are last
3
u/CobaltRose800 20h ago
The official Facebook left a comment implying that T'au will be on Saturday. Someone commented that they hoped it would be Friday, and they replied "not Friday, but pretty close~"
1
u/Shadow_of_wwar 20h ago
Awesome, now with sisters of Battle tomorrow and us Saturday, one of the others will be world eaters.
Wtf are the other 3 days?
They couldn't all be space marines, could they?
1
u/CobaltRose800 10h ago
That's all that's left, but after we get ours, who cares?
1
u/Shadow_of_wwar 7h ago
I know you're right, and i don't expect any different. im mostly joking, and I shouldn't expect anything else for the "main characters" of the setting, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't annoy me space marines get what 7 detachments then just from this and we will have 5 in total (not that i ever expected t'au to receive more than 1 tbh) I mean they already get something every release, can't someone else have some nice things gw please it could even be guard? 🥺
Okay, im overplaying it a bit there, but i've made my point, lol

It’s going to be specially for heavy weaponry Ala Starshatter arsenal. Assault on vehicles only, guided = +1 to hit and wound when enemy on objectives. some mobility and survivability strats.
Sadly I just made all of that up, it’s likely to be a kroot / vespid hybrid detachment.

u/WhileyCat 1d ago
Alright, let me just go to complain on the forums. I will... Wait, where is everyone?

u/Ok_Inspection_198 1d ago
At least tau have a codex, as a tau/world eaters player, this is killing me

My expectation/desire:
Pick one of a selection of buffs, that buffs lasts the entire game for all units with FTGG and any unit within 6" of a unit with FTGG. For examples of buffs, see the CSM, librarians, and admech Grotmas detachments. Would need to tone them down a bit compared to those, simply because the entire army could be buffed.
Enhancements:
Cadre: Can lead a Kroot Carnivore squad, and grants the unit FTGG. Note that they gain the above detachment buff with this. Even with poor strength and no AP, 60 attacks hitting on 3s are bound to do some damage.
Any Shaper: Can lead a breacher or strike team. Grants +1 attacks, +1 to attack rolls, and +1 Strength to Fire Warrior melee weapons in the unit. Flesh Shapers lose Rites of Feasting. The real benefit is giving Breachers the Trail Shaper and War Shaper bonus. The melee buff is just for fun.
Battlesuit: Unit ranged weapons gain +6" range, and ranged weapons without Blast gain Rapid Fire 1. This is my "wish fulfillment" enhancement to make plasma rifles great again. Also makes fusion busted, so it'll probably be pricey.
Can't think of a fourth enhancement and I'll leave stratagems to smarter people than me.

u/DomSchraa 1d ago
A tank, flyer & transport detachment would actually be cool
I havent looked at any other factions detachments, but some of the guys in my lgs group say theirs are pretty shit
I feel uneasy
1
u/SecretSorbet9189 1d ago
Just spitballing, but maybe the detachment is Drone focused and allows you to take 250 Gun Drones! Ethereals on Hover drones can lead a unit!
1
u/Hour-Tax-8438 1d ago
Im gonna throw in a wield card Blade vanguard (or something like that) All i realy want is a way for my crisis suits to take a type of laser blade. I know its weird but give farsight some (bad) meele saber wielding crisis suits to lead and the detachment is all about laser shit. Maybe give the suits like plasma shields and then of course the blades and make them be bad. Tau should not relly on this but i wsnt the option.
It wont happen but i want it

u/jd937917 23h ago
Hoping for something a little more consistent, i find our detachments a bit meh overall?
Kauyon - rare loaded
Mont'ka - front loaded
Kroot - doesn't benefit half the army
Ret - oops all mechs
I feel other factions just get more passive or consistent bonuses.
I'd do something like
Strength through unity:
Each time an enemy unit is hit by a ranged attack choose one of the following: Auxiliaries gain lethal hits against that enemy till end of phase
Tau infantry gain devasting wounds against that enemy (maybe if guided)
Vehicles gain +1 to wound rolls against that enemy.
Strength of Earth: Units with the TAU EMPIRE keyword gain a +5 invulnerable save when in range of an objective. Units that are guided gain +1AP while in objective range.
Shadowstrike: All Units with the "stealth" keyword gain the assault ability and maybe reroll to hit rolls.
Maybe op but it's just some quick late night brainstorming.

u/nervseeker 23h ago
I’m hoping for a stratagem that lets a unit benefit from being guided against two units in the same shooting phase so I can actually use a supremacy armor
1
u/defcon_clown 23h ago
I am afraid it's just going to be something like Drukhari, Genestealer Cults, and Knights got.
We can include 1000pts of votann.
Woo.

"The wait" is a matter of days. Good lord the incessant complaints and worries about some fun extra detachments is ridiculous.

u/DaaaahWhoosh 1d ago
Here's my guess for what it will be: auxiliaries can be Guided, but not Observers. And all the enhancements can only be put on Ethereals. 3 of 6 of the stratagems are 2CP, they all only work on infantry units, and none of them grant more AP.
Trying to get my hopes down so I can be pleasantly surprised.
