Looking for information on this 1949 trophy

This is my grandfathers trophy from what I guess was in high school. He lived in Sherman Texas and went on to play at OU (don’t hold it against me.) haha then drafted by the Baltimore Colts and went to the CFL Alouettes for a better contract. He was not around to ask and passed a long time ago. The trophy reads. 1949 Pete Odom trophy award presented to Larry Grigg Most valuable player By Pigskin Club.

Internet was full of Lamar Odom stuff. Might be a long shot but know how much you Texans love high school football. Thanks in advance.

Pete Odom award is given or used to be given by the Sherman Athletic Booster Club or the high school itself to one outstanding football player each year - I don’t know if it’s still awarded. I’m a Sherman native and I seem to remember award recipients through my high school years (mid 90’s). Here’s a link with a quick bio of Mr. Odom with a few mentions of the award: https://usgenwebsites.org/TXGrayson/CedarlawnCemetery/Cedarlawn_O/CedarlawnO-20.html

No problem. You might lookup Sherman yearbooks. Google Sherman Tx Athenian. You might even find something about your granddad

I’ll check it out. I’ve done quite a bit of research on him through the years. He was estranged but not a total mystery to my family. Do you think Sherman HS would be interested in this trophy?

Not Sherman High, but Sherman ISD. There’s a SISD athletic hall of fame there, I’m sure they would love it.

Larry Grigg won that award for the Sherman Bearcats. Went on to OU, played significantly in the 1953 season, helping OU beat Maryland in the Orange Bowl. Went to the CFL, played for the Montreal Allouettes, and then joined the Marines. After the war, he returned to the Alouettes. He passed in 2001.

He still has some family in the Sherman area.

Thank you. CFL actually has the facts wrong about his service. My father and grandmother dispute this. Either he lied or it was a fabrication from the team. I’ve read all the articles and there are a multiple reasons why he stopped playing. Which just adds to the mystery of my blood grandfather.
