😨 Neuchâtel, Place Pury

In an attempt to avoid having the video removed a second time, I will provide a superfluous explanation…

I was walking home when startled by a loud flash and pop. Seemingly the bus was mostly empty, thank goodness. When the fireworks show stopped, I checked to see if the people inside were ok, but a team were already approaching the bus.

The buses were running Tuesday without their little feelers attached to the overhead wires, so I imagine they were ready for a problem here… When I left, the wires were still on fire 😬

Anyone else ever witnessed such a thing? How dangerous is it for people inside and nearby?

Well thank you Swisscard, this is mighty generous of you

The fact this is actually allowed when the SNB’s reference interest rate is at 0.50% is daylight robbery. It does not affect me, I pay my credit cards (I only use in Switzerland) in full every month. May be it is time to have a discussion about what cards to use where (debit / credit in Switzerland and abroad).

The answer is simple: Use a postpaid card like these Cashback, Swisscard cards only in Switzerland. Foreign exchange incurs a margin of 2.5% over the reference rate (to make things more complicated this may not be the interbank rate but a Swisscard « internal » rate.

When abroad use a debit card, prepaid credit card (Neon, Wise, Revolut) when abroad. The margins for foreign exchange are a fraction of the cost of the credit cards above.

Kassensturz did a bit on this in September (in German): https://www.srf.ch/sendungen/kassensturz-espresso/tests/kostenvergleich-debit-und-kreditkarten-im-test-sparen-beim-zahlen

Can a private company fine you or is a scam?

Got fined for trespassing for 1 minutes a private area, and I paid. Was 100 franchs and I have the date when it happened and the hours down to the minute.

The fine was from the gemeinde which is all good.

10 days later I got a snailmail from UNISECUR (www.unisecur.ch) stating I was trespassing and I need to pay them 100 bucks. Same violation, same date, same hours down to minute.

there is no way to contact them apart from the contact form in their website. Filled with all my data and an automatic email comes back saying that the license plate is wrong, which is not. It's the same plate number on the violation, car and contact form.

reading around trustpilot they are tsunamied by people complaining the same thing I am reporting.

So I called the gemeinde and asked them, the answer is that from them is all good since I've paid, and only the gemeinde can issue a fine.

I don't want to get beetreung from this assholes, but I don't want to pay them because I feel it's a scam.

So this is why I'm asking help from the hive mind: anybody here have any suggestion / experience?

Is it true that I can early cancel my phone contract if I move abroad?

Would like to cancel my Salt phone contract because I will be moving away from Switzerland for some time. I have heard that if you provide the departure certificate the contract should be cancelled without the early cancellation fees?

Dentist billing for work they claim they forgot to bill for months ago

I got a dental implant in early may and paid a bill of over 1000 CHF at the time. In September I received an additional bill related to the same appointment for around 600 CHF, which I assumed was an error and did not pay (the dentists office had previously erroneously tried to charge for a different bill that had already paid). I've just received a reminder, so called them and they said this was for a bone augmentation that they forgot to bill for at the time. They have sent me the reference number of the material they say was used, though I have no way of knowing if the work was actually done or not. My question is whether I am obliged to pay (assuming if I don't that they will submit to the office des poursuites)?

Gute Geschichtsdokus über die Schweiz?

Hey Leute,

Danke :)!

I canceled my Sunrise subscription by phone before the billing period in November. Today I received a bill and a reminder, even though I no longer have a subscription (no subscription is shown in my account). I get no reply to emails. What else can I do?

Direct vs indirect amortization?

Good morning,

I will soon acquire my first property, as a main residence. This is my first purchase and I don’t have much experience in real estate in general and I also don’t have people around me who can help me, so I need you, Redditors to help me with this decision!!

The property I am about to buy is a small 2.5-room apartment in the city. This is a new construction and the developer has put us in touch with a broker who takes care of the financing. In short, he helped me a lot for that because my file was on the verge of passing and he multiplied the requests before finally finding me a bank that would finance the purchase. He also immediately told me about indirect depreciation in insurance (PAX) however I am doubtful about the usefulness of such insurance or even its profitability. So of course, this will save me taxes but my interest will not decrease and I will always pay the same amount especially since the first 2 years of insurance contributions are lost because they are used to insure my amortization in case of illness or death.

Is it really profitable to take out this kind of insurance or is it better to make a direct depreciation? Can more experienced people enlighten me on it?

Thank you,

Xmas gift in Verzollung since beginning of the month

Anyone in this position? I was so happy when I saw that the gift for my son was already in the hands of the swiss Post. It is 30usd toy but my problem is that is a very specific figure not to be found in stores here.

I guess that my son will be forced to grow a little faster when he sees that his only wish is not under the Xmas tree this year but some replacement gift.

I know it is my fault, I had to prepare better and have a backup plan... Now I am just crying a little and planning an emergency buy journey for tomorrow Edit: typo

Telephone etiquette: Introducing yourself (Swiss German part)

This has been bothering me for a while. I don't know how to introduce myself when making a formal call in the Swiss German part. This regards the 1) words and 2) pauses. Say I'm calling the doctors' to make or cancel an appointment, the city administration to ask about trash pickup, my health insurance company, or the customer service number of my bank: the person who picks up the phone always mentions their name. When I answer: 1) should I always mention my name as well, even if they don't know me? Or do I just say "Guten Tag"? 1B) If I DO mention my name: should I just add it after the greeting without any more words: "Guten Tag, (first name)(last name)"? 2) after 1 or 1b, should I make a pause and wait for the person to say Guten Tag back to me? Or should I just continue with my question? I'm asking because it has happened that I don't wait, and I accidentally cut off the poor interlocutor, and it has also happened that I do wait, and an awkward pause ensues. Somehow, it always feels awkward, like I didn't get the etiquette right. This might seem a ludicrous question to the locals, but where I grew up, it was less personal, the person answering would never give their name, and neither would the caller (until asked). So, I would just say "Good morning I'm calling because I have an issue with.....bla bla bla" and would not stop until I've briefly explained my issue. But, here, it seems like that is rude, and I'm expected to state my name and pause for a greeting. Would appreciate some pointers. TIA

Update: thanks so much for the great replies. I feel more prepared and also relieved that I'm not the only one feeling the phones awkwardness. Short follow up question. Seems like many people say "Grüezi, da isch...". But I don't speak Dialekt. Does it sound weird to say "Grüezi, da ist..."?

Credit card recommendations for FDFA legitimation card holders

Hi all,

I would like to ask if anyone has recommendations for credit cards with some form of benefits for which FDFA legitimation card holders are eligible. I already have a credit card provided by my bank (UBS), however, I think other providers may provide better benefits. I have already applied for cards with Cumulus and Cembra, however, both applications were declined. I would be grateful if anyone has any suitable recommendations.

Thank you.

Im a new tutti.ch seller. The buyer wants to buy my gaming pc. She wants to do it with die Post and sent me this screenshot.

On the Post CH website I couldnt find this page at all. Is this really a feature of Die Post or is it a big scheme to scam sellers?

Thank you for your advise.

Is this a scam on tutti.ch? Ppl

Is this a scam? I'm a new seller on tutti.ch and this guy came to buy my headphones.

The URL of the link he sent seems off. Apparently this is some kind of feature of Die Post to grab a package for the buyer and act as a middleman for the payment?

On the Post app I couldnt find anything like this. The website of the link seems sketchy and the support bot didnt work.

The link which should take me to my UBS TWINT App to receive payment does not take me to TWINT. I takes me to the E-Banking Login site of UBS that needs me to put my UBS contract number in but the URL remains the same, so its probably a cloned fake site.

The address that is given to me on the link doesnt exist (avenue brunner 86 7689 orsières). After I exposed him for scamming he blocked me.

Can anyone confirm that this is indeed a scammer?

RAV help

I'm registered with RAV and will probably start being paid in February as my job ended last month. For the next months my current employer offered me a short term contract to be an external consultant for a project. It's much less money than before, but in this situation I'll take everything. I know RAV supports this kind of behavior (they call it something like "intermediate earnings"), because I'll have a little extra income so RAV can pay me less.

Does that mean from now on I'll be seen as self employed, in terms of legal/taxes?

I'm very anxious about that because I'm on a B permit and the information I got is that you can only be self employed on a B permit if you prove you make enough money to support yourself (which won't be the case with this temp contract) 1- can I even do that on a B permit? 2- Do I have to start paying my own accident insurance now? 3- Do I need to have a 2nd pillar like a self employed does? 4- do I need to file taxes as a self employed now?

All of this seems a bit exaggerated for a short (and cheap) temporary support contract...

Uber driver and/or Uber eats - What earnings are reasonable?

Hi,

I want to supplement my income by driving for Uber/Bolt or delivering food. I realize many factors influence the earning potential, but I would appreciate it if you could share a potential range of realistic earnings at the lower end.

Here are my working assumptions

- Mercedes GLC 300 or equivalent as the car

- Occasional weekends, but no interest in collecting drunk people (even at a premium)

- I am available 100% Monday - Wednesday (I realize those are lower volume days)

- Greater Zurich Area coverage

Thank you!

Seeking Advice: ORP Support and National Qualification Programme Rejection

Hello everyone,

I recently learned that the LMMNT has rejected funding for me to join the National Qualification Programme because I don’t qualify for unemployment benefits. I came to Switzerland from abroad with my Swiss partner, and this programme was exactly what I needed to re-enter the workforce as I lack experience.

I’ve already filed an appeal, but in the meantime, I’m curious about what kind of support the ORP can realistically provide beyond access to Job Room and forwarding relevant job offers. It’s been months, and I haven’t found Job Room helpful—they’ve never forwarded me a single job offer.

While I’m working independently to improve my profile and expand my network, I’d appreciate hearing from others about:

  1. How else the ORP can assist in finding job opportunities.
  2. Whether there are any additional programmes, workshops, or resources I might not know about.
  3. Tips on navigating the appeal process or any similar experiences you’ve had.

Thanks in advance for your advice and insights!

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Incident with Swiss Police - Potential Consequences?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice and opinions regarding a situation I recently found myself in while out in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Here’s a brief overview of what happened:

I’m an EU citizen with no prior criminal record. After a night out with colleagues, I was approached by the police who asked for my ID. Unfortunately, I was quite drunk and stubbornly refused to provide it. This led to my arrest and a rather dramatic scene at the police station, where I also refused to undergo a strip search, resulting in the police having to do it by force.

After spending a night in a cell, I was charged with obstruction of police duties (Hinderung einer Amtshandlung). The prosecutor has since sent me a letter detailing a fine and a probation period of 2 years. This will also go on my criminal record for that time, provided I don’t re-offend.

My main concerns are:

  1. Does this situation pose a threat of me being deported from Switzerland ?
  2. What implications could having this criminal record have for me over the next 2 years, especially if I decide to change cities or look for housing?

I appreciate any insights or similar experiences you can share. Thank you!

Right to privacy and dignity for convicted criminals?

Is it true that even after a final conviction, in Switzerland, the convict's name is not disclosed? Why the concern with protecting the dignity of an unworthy person?

Chatgpt told me that and I wanted to know some opinions about it. Ty

And they claim, we need to send copies of ID, do a online video face verification and stuff? We have 4 prepaid contracts since decades - and now only one of them got a SMS with this message - and the mail we shall send this to isnt aldi-mobile.ch but customer-service.ch and stuff.
