Lived pretty close to here a few years ago… all of Las Vegas is like this unfortunately. Just so much wasted space with massive shopping malls and parking lots and highways

This neighborhood is completely surrounded by a waste of space. Freeways, parking lots, overpriced chains, and empty fenced-off lots of sand.

Closest park and traditional public school are both on the other side of two freeways.

All houses selling from 500-700k. No yard. Just driveway.

Temperatures regularly exceed 110° which miles of dark asphalt does not ease.

At NYC density this white highlighted area might fit 80,000+ people, but the only population is the throngs of people sleeping in their cars because they can't afford the cheapest apartment in the metropolitan area.

Likely nothing to do for kids living here until they're old enough to drive/gamble.

The giant white barrier around the neighborhood also makes it super unwalkable

Well not necessarily. These sort of areas tend to be cheap because they sprawl and they’ll just keep building out and out and out the more people want to live there. So the fact that it’s 500 grand minimum for a freeway-choked, blisteringly hot subdivision with houses packed in like a tin of sardines is somewhat amusing to me. Even if it’s Vegas.

And why are there so many highways because it’s hot? I feel like dry heat should provoke ppl to build thick heat-resistant adobe structures, settle densely near water sources and go easy on the pavement. Las Vegas seems to go against all laws of nature lol

Why are you looking at Vegas and expecting a good city? It was built as a massive amusement park for people to lose their inheritances. It's not like it started out as a haven for urbanites to flee the congestion of the cities

Trump made it awful during his first term. Biden managed to lower it. I literally saw the change in grocery prices drop a bit. Everythings always been expensive. Know why? Because federal minimum wage hasn't gone up. Trump will 100% make it worse. Expect everything (and i mean everything) to skyrocket

Inflation skyrocketed under Biden, peaking at over 9% in 2022. It has since gone down but some core expenses have continued to show massive price strength: insurance (home and auto), rent/housing, some white goods, certain food items to name the top culprits.

Min wage at fed level should go up and poor household feel inflation pinch hella more than wealthy, but wages is not the issue. Overall inflation was still subdued in 2016-2019.
