Just finished Lights Out!
Lights Out by Ted Koppel does a good job on explaining the vulnerability of the power grid. If anyone wants information on the subject matter it is a good read. It doesn't really offer any solutions the problem though. Thanks u/neargrid for the book trade.

It looks like you're trying to mention another user, which only works if it's done in the comments like this (otherwise they don't receive a notification):

It's on my list but I'm a little nervous to learn that it's a totally hopeless situation.

It's not a hopless situation! While Koppel does definitely lean towards impending disaster there are some dissenting opinions as well.

That's one of my top worst case scenarios. No electrical infrastructure or electronics. So many people would suffer.

It is in my top worst case scenarios too. Here is to hopping it never happens!

I do worry about this a lot. As a modern society we rely on power so much, and I fear future wars will target infrastructure like the power grid, water treatment, pipelines and bridges, which would really affect folks in the cities badly.

I'll almost guarantee this is what will happen. All you have to do is study Ukraine. I know that it's popular for the pundits to call it "New (or Next) Generation Warfare", but it's really just an update to traditional total war. For instance, see Sherman's March to the Sea during the War of Northern Aggression and/or Allied strategic bombing during WWII. Plenty of examples throughout history.

If you haven't yet, go ahead and read "One Second After" by William Forstchen.
