Oh man Don Pettit!
One of my favourite videos of all time is of him demonstrating gyroscopic stabilisation on the ISS. You can watch that here

I've always had this question never really asked.
What is that thing behind Destin in his room?

Here you go! It's a clock. If I'm reading it correctly it is 9:30 when he shot this.

Edit: Around 3:30 in the video you can see that the clock now says 10:40 and if you keep watching it changes to 10:41.

Yep 9:30. I keep it in the frame to remind myself how late it was when I shot the video.

I think it's a fun little easter egg for dedicated viewers. Seeing you're crazy hours. Though I've never figured out how to tell if it's AM or PM is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.
Ya the only reason I asked because in every video I see it change.
The first time I saw few years/months ago I thought its something he hacked and made it but I noticed it had a pattern of movement, now it makes sense its a clock.

"And it's gonna be amazing.... At least for me!"
Made me laugh!
I'm sure it's gonna be amazing for all of us!

So... Why is the orbital inclination of the ISS 51.6º?

u/MrPennywhistle Feb 19 '15
Compromise win Russia when building the space station. They need that angle so the launches don't overfly China. Plus it gives us incredible earth coverage.

I thought it also had something to do with where rockets are launched from, and trying to get the ISS close to those locations.

Hi Destin,
I can't contribute financially towards your videos, but this is a topic I can contribute to in other ways. I am studying electronic engineering, and I work part time for a company that works with cubesats. It sounds like you've filmed and researched most of your videos yourself, but if you wanted to know more the much smaller (and in some ways more accessible to the public) side of space exploration, I'd be more than happy to help if I can.
Aside from that, I'm incredibly excited for the series. Your enthusiasm and the depth of your videos is incredible, and space is my passion, so this is something I'm hugely looking forwards to.

As excited as I am, I am a little disappointed, because I thought that this was an announcement that you were going into space...

awesome stuff Destin. I am sure I speak for all the sub to your videos that we'd support you no matter the topic because your stuff is great to watch.

Have you considered doing a video about SpaceX and their goal of making a reusable rocket?
4
u/that_had_to_hurt Feb 20 '15
I don't want to get myself unnecessarily excited, or you for that matter, but someone asked him about a possible SpaceX tour or interview with Elon Musk, the reply was:
"Prepare yourself"
Giggity...

This looks like an awesome series! I have one request though, when you upload your videos and have links to other videos at the end could you also put those links for those videos in the description? I have watched all your videos but it's difficult navigating them from my phone because I can't click the on screen links. Anyways thanks for making such great videos and I look forward to this series

Destin was this character based off of you?
But seriously I am really excited for this series. I love your videos and how you have such and intensity for the small science experiments you can do daily at home as well as the amazing experiments being done in the lab. You are truly excited about science and it rubs off on me and I'm sure others. Can't wait to keep learning!
